WITCH BURIAL - 'Maleficium'
The 5-year band - Witch Burial was founded in New Orleans in 2014 and has been quite an act in the metal scene. The guys have opened for bands such as Goatwhore, Absu, Taake, Imperial Triumphant, Mortuary Drape, Scour. With S.White on guitars, J.Lovell on bass, B. DeVincenti on drums, and J.Benoit on vocals you can expect what's best - and they surely deliver it. With a 2015's demo and a self-titled full-length from 2016 on their account, the band has released a second full-length titled 'Maleficium' on March 21st. The album consists of eight tracks, marking the time of nearly 34 minutes. The album is finished with a top-level artwork by one and only Jordan Barlow.
'Maleficium' starts with an extremely powerful track 'The Infernal Essence' which gave me what I was looking for - powerful black metal riffs. The song will surely give you these cold and frozen-like entrance into the black metal artwork which 'Maleficium' is. Each track is overflowing with powerful, thrash-like guitar riffs that perfectly fit the dark profile of the album. Drum parts are perfectly fine, very strong, and full of blasts. I love the insight which this album gave me - an insight into the bright (or dark) future of black metal. Also, the feeling of mysterious winter, coldness, frozen lakes, and dark magic which this album provided satisfied me in 100%. In my opinion, that's how a good, black metal album should make you feel like it. Another thing is the instrumental track - 'Equinox'. It took me a few listens to understand it's meaning or at least purpose in that album. I think that it was recorded to show us that magical, dark, and curious instrumental track can also well represent the genre of dark metal.
The band has a huge potential, they're very talented, and I can clearly see, that they're heavily driven into making true black metal music which will give us a needed feeling of darkness and it'll definitely fill the void for coldness which some of us lack in our lives. I certainly think that the band should try to do more instrumental songs because they did an amazing job with 'Equinox'. I hope that we won't have to wait very long for the next album, hopefully, Witch Burial will release something next year, or maybe in two years, who knows... Nowadays, there are too many talented black metal bands that are extremely underrated and not appreciated. I think we should show them a little bit more support, especially in those difficult times.

DeVincentim na perkusji i J.Benoitem na wokalu możesz spodziewać się tego, co najlepsze - na pewno to dostarczą. Mając na swoim koncie demo z 2015 roku i full-length z 2016 roku, zespół wydał 21 marca drugi album zatytułowany „Maleficium”. Album składa się z ośmiu utworów, które trwają prawie 34 minuty. Album jest zwieńczony grafiką na najwyższym poziomie autorstwa jedynego w swoim rodzaju Jordana Barlowa.
„Maleficium” zaczyna się niezwykle mocnym kawałkiem „The Infernal Essence”, który dał mi dokładnie to, czego szukałam - potężne black metalowe riffy. Utwór z pewnością da ci to mroźne zaproszenie do black metalowego dziełą , jakim jest „Maleficium”. Każdy utwór jest przepełniony mocnymi, thrashowymi riffami gitarowymi, które idealnie pasują do mrocznego profilu albumu. Partie perkusji są doskonałe, mocne i pełne blastów. Uwielbiam wgląd, który dał mi ten album - wgląd w jasną (lub mroczną) przyszłość black metalu. Również uczucie tajemniczej zimy, chłodu, zamarzniętych jezior i mrocznej magii, które dostarczył ten album, usatysfakcjonowało mnie w 100%. Moim zdaniem tak dobry, black metalowy album powinien sprawiać, że czujesz dokładnie to, czego nie doświadczysz słuchając innych gatynków metalu. Kolejna rzecz to utwór instrumentalny - „Equinox”. Zajął mi kilka przesłuchań, aby zrozumieć, jakie ma znaczenie, a przynajmniej cel w tym albumie. Myślę, że został nagrany, aby pokazać nam, że magiczny, mroczny i ciekawy utwór instrumentalny może również dobrze reprezentować gatunek dark metalu.
Zespół ma ogromny potencjał, są bardzo utalentowani i wyraźnie widzę, że są mocno zaangażowani w tworzenie prawdziwej muzyki black metalowej, która da nam potrzebne poczucie ciemności i na pewno wypełni pustkę dla chłodu. których niektórych brakuje w naszym życiu. Uważam, że zespół powinien spróbować zrobić więcej instrumentalnych utworów, ponieważ wykonali niesamowitą robotę przy „Equinox”. Mam nadzieję, że na kolejny album nie będziemy musieli długo czekać, miejmy nadzieję, że Witch Burial wyda coś w przyszłym roku, a może za dwa lata, kto wie ... W dzisiejszych czasach jest zbyt wiele utalentowanych zespołów black metalowych, które są wyjątkowo niedoceniane. Myślę, że powinniśmy okazać im trochę więcej wsparcia, szczególnie w tych trudnych czasach.
