MAZE OF TERROR - interview with Leviathan

Hello! Today I have the pleasure to invite everyone and introduce you to the Maze of Terror band. Their bass player - Leviathan, also agreed to an interview, in which he would reveal some secrets about their new material that they are currently working on. Before I move on to the interview, I will briefly present the history of the band.

Maze Of Terror is a raw, very sharp thrash metal band from Peru in 2011 founded by Hammer (drums), Leviathan (bass guitar and scream vocals), and Criminal - who deal with guitar parts in the band.

In June 2012, the band released their first EP called "Skullcrusher" under the name Capricorn Records and then re-released by Total Desaster of Argentina. The band went on a concert tour of South America, which led them to Bolivia, where they opened metal concerts, before such metal music legends as Whiplash, in 2013 Destruction in Arequipa and Lima in the same year before Exumer. In September 2015 they are on their next concert tour in Bolivia, opening concerts in front of such bands as Toxik, MX, and Pentagram. In 2016, they set off on tour around the various cities of Ecuador, sharing the stage with large bands such as Nightprowler, Conjure, Ente, and many others.

. In the same year, they released their first full album "Ready To Kill", released in Belgium by Empire Records on vinyl and CD, in cassette format released by P-18 Records. This album is distributed on tape by Neverheard Distro as well as CD and Vinyl around the world. I must admit that their first Long Play surprised me positively. I listened to the album twice and it is an incredibly good album for all fans of thrash metal, but not only because on the disc, but you can also hear the influence of such metal genres as Blackened / Thrash or Brutal Death metal. The disc is captivating with its rawness, sharpness, and pugnacity. My favorite from this album is the song - Lycanthropes. (when listening to this song, it comes to my mind that this is music from the combination of two bands - Venom and early Morbid Angel. I highly recommend this album and its music to all fans of violent sharp metal playing. Let's get to the interview with their bass player now Leviathan, where we will learn more details about what plans the band has for the near future, what are the lyrics of their songs and where do they get inspiration to create their works and other interesting things.

Szymon Harris Balcerek: Hello! and thank you that I can do some interview with you! I am glad! First question: How about a new album? The album will be different than your first album or in a similar style?

Leviathan: Hi my bro, thank you that you have time to do some interview with me and a big hello to all the metalhead's jackals that enjoy this music, and well direct to the point. on the first album, we easily do somethings only as a free will, in composition and sound, our biggest influence always is south-American thrash death, we don't care put black metal touches on our music, now the plan after its do it something more brutal, extreme and raw than before, more short songs, brutal texts, extreme voices, obscure atmosphere, we trying to take this to the next level of brutality.

S: What is now your plan with your band, for the nearest future?

L: Our first plans are re-edited some of our old material to spread on new different places, we have a plan to some tours far from here but we take this on a secret for the moment, but our big plan is to record our next album after this pandemic, via extreme records and do a big distribution on the same, after that, we will seek our next travel to do something great.

S: It is hard in Peru to organize some metal live shows of your band or metal festival?

L: Well it is not difficult to make a concert here, our scene is big and small at the same time, everyone knows each other. I see the people go to the small shows, supports and enjoys beer and toxins in peacefull ways, but the people do not buy so much material, we ussualy dont care that so much, others worried about that but well, the problem is doing it a big show, I see that internally, I work to do it graphic design for flyers and cds, I see so many fear and problems about big shows the same day, its a big trouble beetween the organizers and sometimes the people correctly dont support, I think the tickets are expensive but, I think is because the costs of production are very high, but so many bands play here and see the few people or much people broke his necks on the pit in shows like Destroyer 666, Bolzer, etc, we are also open to Sadistic Intent, Bulldozer, Nasty Savage and Destruction here and see from inside the production, and ussually the shows has a really good sound and equipment, I think the bands that come here are really happy when doing their shows, the people are crazy.

S: From what inspiration you take to your music? and also in your new album with the band, you wanna write about something really important to you? where you take inspiration for the new material?

L: Well we try to read about history, war, murders, human misery, our inspiration sometimes comes from movies, Lovecraft

, in the next album we speak about some history topics like an inquisition, witchery, and other songs will speak about how big potencies do precision and manipulation in the world's economy to take us as slaves of debts and put miserable people on the power, and the simple human suffers after that, moments like these in the world make you know how many people do an effort to go ahead but the mistakes of something worse of the governments don't let us advance to all the people in the world and how we need to take the correct decision to support the correct people to do a change to preserve ourselves,

we try to speak about the real brutality of the history and the world on the next album.

S: You wanna play in the future some live gigs in Europe? it would be so nice when you come and play in my country - Poland 😀

L: We notice are so many people is interested in the band there because our albums were well distributed and the people are interested in play in Europe, it is something difficult and expensive for us but, after the next album we will move the strings to that becomes a fact, will be awesome for all, I have friends in Poland a big hello to all! , I know so many good old and new bands in Poland, we will be really happy when we share the stage with them, and of course share weed with you my war brother!

S: From what bands you take the inspirations the most, or maybe you don't take and you wanna try to create your own style in music?

L: I really big fan of Venom, we take some things, but our biggest inspiration is the South-American thrash death scene, bands like Sepultura Chakal, Vulcano, german thrash metal like Sodom or Kreator, nowadays blackened sounds like Desaster or Nocturnal Breed,

classic sounds like Slayer, death metal than Deicide or Morbid Angel, we always try to take inspiration on the correct music to do something brutal but we try to take our influences a do it something different at the same time.

S: Metal like a music genre is popular in Peru or not?

L: So many people like metal, but is not popular on the radios or something similar I think it's ok because its something for true people, I think it's not necessary to be massive the important is the good brutal music, and keep the effort on the metal here will be always real and proud

Witam! Dziś mam przyjemność zaprosić wszystkich, oraz zapoznać was z zespołem Maze of Terror. Ich basista – Leviathan, zgodził się także na przeprowadzenie z nim wywiadu, w którym zdradzi kilka tajemnic dotyczących ich nowego materiału nad którym właśnie teraz pracują. Za nim przejdę do wywiadu, po krótce przedstawię historię tego zespołu.

Maze Of Terror to surowy, bardzo ostry thrash metalowy zespół z Peru założony w 2011 roku przez Hammera (perkusja), Leviathana (gitara basowa i scream wokale) i Criminala – który zajmuję się w zespole partiami gitarowymi.

W czerwcu 2012 roku zespół wydał swoją pierwszą EP-kę o nazwie „Skullcrusher” pod szyldem Capricorn Records, a następnie ponownie wydaną przez Total Desaster of Argentina. Zespół ruszył w trase koncertową po Ameryce Południowej, która zaprowadziła ich do Boliwii, gdzie otwierali koncerty metalowe, przed takimi legendami muzyki metalowej jak: Whiplash, w 2013 Destruction w Arequipie i w Limie w tym samym roku przed Exumerem. We wrześniu 2015 roku odbyli kolejną trasę koncertową w Boliwii, otwierając koncerty przed takimi zespołami jak: Toxik, MX i Pentagram. W 2016 roku wyruszają w trasę po różnych miastach Ekwadoru, dzieląc scenę z dużymi zespołami, takimi jak Nightprowler, Conjure, Ente i wieloma innymi.

. W tym samym roku wydali swój pierwszy pełny album „Ready To Kill”, wydany w Belgii przez Empire Records na płytach winylowych i CD, w formacie kasetowym wydanym przez P-18 Records. Ten album jest dystrybuowany na kasecie przez Neverheard Distro oraz CD i Vinyl na całym świecie. Sam musze przyznać, że ich pierwszy Long play bardzo pozytywnie mnie zaskoczył. Album słuchałem 2 razy i jest to niesamowicie dobry album dla wszystkich fanów thrash metalu, ale nie tylko, gdyż na krążku można usłyszeć wpływy takich gatunków metalu jak Blackened/Thrash czy Brutal Death metalu. Płyta porywa swoją surowością, ostrością i zadziornością. Moim faworytem z tego albumu jest utwór – Lycanthropes. (słuchając tego kawałka, na myśl przychodzą mi do głowy, inspiracje z połączeń dwóch zespołów- Venom i wczesnego Morbid Angel. Naprawdę bardzo polecam ten album i ich muzykę wszystkim fanom brutalnego ostrego grania. Przejdźmy już teraz do wywiadu z ich Basistą Leviathanem, gdzie dowiemy się więcej szczegółów na temat tego, jakie plany zespół ma na najbliższą przyszłość, o czym są teksty ich utworów i skąd czerpią inspiracje do tworzenia swoich dzieł, oraz innych ciekawych rzeczy.

Szymon Harris Balcerek: Cześć! dziękuje, że mogę przeprowadzić z tobą wywiad, jest mi niezmiernie miło i cieszę się! Pierwsze pytanie: Co powiesz o waszym nadchodzącym nowym albumie? Będzie inny niż wasz pierwszy krążek, czy w podobnym stylu?

Leviathan: Cześć, mój bracie, i dziękuje, że masz czas na wywiad ze mną, oraz witam wszystkich fanów dobrego ostrego metalowego grania. Na pierwszym albumie wszystko robiliśmy z łatwością i bardzo swobodnie, po prostu robiliśmy to na co mieliśmy ochotę. Silnymi wpływami na naszą muzykę jest oczywiście tematyka śmierci, wojen i zniszczeń. Na naszym najnowszym albumie chcemy zrobić coś bardziej brutalnego niż dotychczas, coś ekstremalnego i surowszego niż wcześniej. Mamy więcej krótkich utworów, brutalnych tekstów, niejasnej atmosfery. Staramy się przenieść całą naszą muzykę na wyższy poziom brutalności.

S: Jaki masz teraz plan z zespołem na najbliższą przyszłość?

L: Naszymi planami jest teraz to, aby odświeżyć nasz stary materiał, który robiliśmy jeszcze na początku naszego zespołu i abyśmy zagrali gdzieś dalej. Mamy plany na dalekie trasy koncertowe, ale narazie to wszystko jest tajemnicą. W najbliższym czasie po tej pandemii chcemy nagrać nasz nowy album.

S: Czy w Peru trudno jest zorganizować metalowy koncert na żywo twojego zespołu lub czy trudno w ogóle jest w twoim kraju zorganizować jakiś festiwal metalowy?

L: Koncerty u nas w kraju, nie są trudne w organizowaniu. Mamy jednoczśnie duże i małe sceny, i dużo ludzi się zna. Widzę, że ludzie chodzą na małe koncerty, wspierają zespoły i cieszą się wspólnym piwkiem i innymi rzeczami. Wiesz ja robię grafiki do naszych płyt CD i ulotki na nasze koncerty i czasami jest tylko problem i strach z organizacją wszystkiego na czas. Duży kłopot między nami, a organizatorami danego koncertu na którym gramy. Bilety są czasem drogię, ale i też koszty produkcji i organizacji takiego koncertu czy festiwalu metalowego nie są małe. Myślę, że ogólnie zespoły, które przyjeżdżają tutaj do nas grać koncerty, są z nich bardzo zadowoleni, a ludzię są szaleni i bawią się w najlepsze!

S: Z czego bierzecie inspirację do tworzenia swojej muzyki? i w swoim nowym albumie z zespołem, chcesz napisać o czymś naprawdę dla Ciebie ważnym?

L: Staramy się czytać o historii, wojnie, morderstwach, ludzkiej nędzy, a czasami nasza inspiracja pochodzi z filmów, Lovecrafta itp.

, W następnym albumie mówimy o niektórych tematach historycznych, takich jak inkwizycja, czary i inne podobne rzeczy, które mówią o tym, jak wielkie rządy manipulują w światowej gospodarce, aby wziąć nas za niewolników żerować na nieszczęśliwych ludziach. Wiesz, ile ludzi stara się iść naprzód, ale błędy rządących nie pozwalają nam przejść gdzieś dalej. Staramy się mówić o prawdziwej brutalności historii i świata na kolejnym albumie.

S: Chcesz zagrać w przyszłości koncerty w Europie? byłoby miło, gdybyście przyjechali i zagrali w moim kraju - w Polsce 😃

L: Zauważamy, że wiele ludzi interesuję się naszym zespołem, ponieważ nasze albumy były dość dobrze dystrybuowane, a ludziom się to podoba. Jest to dla nas coś trudnego i kosztownego zagrać w Europie, ale gdy nagramy nowy album i damy u siebie w kraju jakieś koncerty, myślę, że jest to możliwe abyśmy potem zagrali i koncerty w Europie. Mam w Polsce troche przyjaciół i właśnie teraz - pozdrawiam ich wszystkich! Znam także stare i nowe dobre polskie zespoły metalowe, bylibyśmy bardzo szczęśliwi gdybyś mogli w Polsce dzielić wspólnie scenę z waszymi zespołami. Oczywiście będziemy dzielić z tobą trawkę, mój wojenny bracie! Heh.

S: Z jakich zespołów najbardziej czerpiecie inspiracje do swojej muzyki, a może wolicie tworzyć swój własny styl grania?

L: Jestem naprawdę wielim fanem zespołu - Venom. Bierzemy z nich chyba największą inspirację. No i oczywiście inspirację do naszej muzyki czerpiemy też z naszej rodzimej sceny metalowej, z takich zespołów jak: Sepultura, Chakal, Vulcano, ale również i z niemieckiego thrash metalu, czyli z Kreatora, albo z zespołu - Sodom. Jest także trochę isnpiracji z zespołu Desaster, Nocturnal Breed czy z klasycznych dźwiękow metalu, ze Slayera, death metalowego Deicide, albo Morbid Angel. Zawsze czerpiemy inspirację z zespołów, które grają brutalnie, żeby i nasza muzyka była brutalna. Staramy się oczywiście też wykreować swój własny styl grania.

S: Metal jako gatunek muzyki w Peru, jest popularny czy nie?

L: Bardzo dużo osób lubi tu muzykę metalową, ale nie jest popularna w radiu, tv czy w czymś podobnym. Myślę, że to jest w porządku, ponieważ jest to coś dla prawdziwych ludzi. Ważna jest brutalna muzyka i utrzymanie ciągle tej muzyki. Ta muzyka zawsze bedzie prawdziwa i dumna.

S: Chcesz powiedzieć coś swoim fanom na koniec wywiadu? i dziękuję ci bardzo za ten mały wywiad 😉

L: Dziękuje za wywiad i wsparcie!. Chcę, żebyś posłuchał naszego nowego albumu. Cieszę się mój bracie, chętnie dzielę się muzyką i chętnie ją słucham.
