VAMPIRIC FUNERAL - 'Ritus Sanguinae' EP

The EP came out on March 20th and that was the day that Vampiric Funeral became quite a deal amongst the underground black metal community.
The old school black metal sound will bring all those older of You a good ol' feeling straight from the '90s as well as the younger generation will have a band from which they can expect a whole lot of great music. Why You may ask... Let's jump to the review.
'Lunam Ritus' (intro) is kept in the medieval-like instrumental/synth style. It gets You ready for what's to come, transfers You into a whole other world, most likely of Count Dracula - that's at least the feeling I get when I listen to it.
'Ritual of Erzsebeth Bathory' was my favorite track for some time. I really liked the mysterious feeling it gives me each time I listen to it. The vocalist's (Gerardo Torres) voice is so morbid it gives me chills. Also, I somehow recognized his voice from before, as if I listened to him in another band. In fact, I never heard him sing before but his voice sounds pretty much like young Satyr combined with Dead and young Nocturno Culto. The track has catchy guitar riffs (Carlos Segura) with a great drum work (Walter Aspeitia), although drums could be louder as well as bass (Alejandro Arrieta) - that's what the song lacks pretty much. I'm a huge fan of the keyboard notes (Abel Candia) in the background.
Overall, this song is a great one. It gives me the feeling of being in a big old castle, surrounded by darkness and ghosts of Erzsebeth Bathory and Dracula...
'The Black Funeral March' is my current favorite track. It's got a catchy beginning with a great guitar + drum work. This song, from the very start, gives me a horror movie-like feeling. On this track, the voice parts sound more extreme than on the first one what gives an even grimmer feeling. Production could be better... The bass is not well emphasized and the sound is muffled at some points.
'Sabbath in the Forest' is a pure black metal song. It provides a great early Satyricon feeling as well as some new additions from the young band. I like the song since it brings quite a special feeling while listening to it. I think that this track has got the best drum work out of all the songs from this EP. Vocals are perfect, nothing to be changed here - same with guitars. PLEASE ADD LOUDER BASS TRACKS! I mean, seriously, why people underestimate bassists so badly these days...
'Queen of the Darkness' - here is when I got disappointed and surprised at the same time... The title suggests a kickass song, beginning gets You into black thrash kind of vibe...and that's all... After the first minute, the track totally changes and it sounds as if a totally different song started. I got a feeling that the band couldn't find enough inspiration to finish one song so they combined this one out of two unfinished ones. That didn't work out for me. It could but then they would have to 'glue' each part well together... At some points, You can hear that certain guitar parts are just not meant to be there and that they don't fit in any way to the song. I don't hate this track. I got used to it, it does not bring me harm in any way BUT I would like it more if it was divided into a two-part story of 'Queen of the Darkness'.
Summarizing this review, the only negative aspects are: poor, muffled sound, drums, and bass not loud enough and the last song could be made better.
I have to say that the band's soul sounds extremely strong to me, I can tell that their fanbase is growing fast and after a release of their full album, they'll definitely make a name for themselves as a successful young band with a great old 90's feeling.
I can't wait for the release of a full record, I know that the band has been working on it for some time now and I hope that it'll be released on vinyl so I can get myself one copy as well.

Oldschoolowe black metalowe brzmienie sprawi, że wszyscy starsi z was poczują się jakby wrócili do lat 90, a młodsze pokolenie będzie miało zespół, od którego mogą spodziewać się wspaniałej muzyki. Dlaczego?... Przejdźmy do recenzji.
„Lunam Ritus” (intro) utrzymane jest w średniowiecznym stylu instrumentalnym / syntezatorowym. Przenosi cię do innego świata, najprawdopodobniej hrabiego Draculi - przynajmniej takie odczucie mam ja, kiedy go słucham.
„Ritual of Erzsebeth Bathory” był moim ulubionym utworem przez jakiś czas. Naprawdę podoba mi się tajemnicze uczucie, które daje mi za każdym razem, gdy go słucham. Głos wokalisty (Gerardo Torres) wywołuje u mnie dreszcze. Poza tym, w jakiś sposób rozpoznałam jego głos, jakbym słuchała go w innym zespole. W rzeczywistości nigdy wcześniej nie słyszałam, żeby śpiewał, ale brzmi on jak młody Satyr w połączeniu z Dead'em i młodym Nocturno Culto. Utwór ma chwytliwe gitarowe riffy (Carlos Segura) ze świetnym brzmieniem perkusyjnym (Walter Aspeitia), chociaż bębny i bass mogą być głośniejsze (Alejandro Arrieta). Jestem wielką fanką keyboardu (Abel Candia) w tle.
Ogólnie rzecz biorąc, ta piosenka jest świetna. Daje mi wrażenie przebywania w wielkim starym zamku, otoczonym ciemnością i duchami Erzsebeth Bathory i Draculi ...
„The Black Funeral March” to mój ulubiony utwór. Rozpoczyna się od świetnej gitary i perkusji. Track od samego początku daje mi wrażenie jakby był wyjęty z filmu grozy. Na tym utworze, partie głosowe brzmią bardziej ekstremalnie niż na pierwszym, co daje jeszcze bardziej ponure i magiczne odczucie. Produkcja mogłaby być lepsza ... Bas nie jest dobrze podkreślony, a dźwięk w niektórych momentach jest stłumiony.
„Sabbath in the Forest” to czysto black metalowy kawałek. Słychać wpływ wczesnego Satyricon'a na klimat utworu, a także dobrze wyszukane muzyczne 'dodatki' od młodego zespołu. Bardzo lubię ten kawałek ze wzglęu na całkiem wyjątkowe uczucie, które nam zapewnia podczas słuchania. Myślę, że ten utwór ma najlepsze partie perkusji ze wszystkich kawałków z tej EPki. Wokale są idealne, nie ma tu nic do zmiany - to samo z gitarami. Brakuje mi głośniejszego basu! Mówię poważnie, dlaczego ludzie tak bardzo nie doceniają basistów ...
„Queen of the Darkness” - w tym momencie rozczarowałam się i zaskoczyłam jednocześnie ... Tytuł sugeruje porządny utwór, który wnosi klimat blackthrashu... i to, tak naprawdę, wszystko ... Po pierwszej minucie kawałek całkowicie się zmienia i brzmi, jakby zaczął się zupełnie inny utwór. Miałam wrażenie, że zespół nie mógł znaleźć wystarczającej inspiracji, aby ukończyć jedną piosenkę, więc połączyli tę jedną z dwóch niedokończonych. To im nie wyszło. Mogłoby, ale wtedy musieliby dobrze „skleić” każdą część ...
W niektórych momentach można usłyszeć, że niektóre partie gitary nie powinny się wcale znaleźć i nie pasują w żaden sposób do utworu. Chciałabym aby ten track był podzielony na dwie części historii królowej ciemności.
Podsumowując tę recenzję, jedynymi negatywnymi aspektami są: słaby, stłumiony dźwięk, bębny i bas nie są wystarczająco głośne, a ostatni utwór mógł być podzielony na dwie części.
Muszę powiedzieć, że dusza zespołu brzmi dla mnie wyjątkowo silnie, ich grono fanów rośnie szybko i po wydaniu pełnego albumu na pewno zasłyną jako odnoszący sukcesy młody zespół, który niesie swoją muzyką dawne uczycie black metalu z lat 90.
Nie mogę się doczekać wydania pełnej płyty, wiem, że zespół pracował nad nią już od jakiegoś czasu i mam nadzieję, że zostanie wydana na płycie winylowej i będę mogła dodać ją do swojej kolekcji.
