Welcome to all readers of Metal Hellvolution! Today is another series called ''Back to the past'' and for today's pen, we take cd which is canon and one of the most important pieces from genre NWOBHM - Angel Witch - ''Angel Witch'' (December 1980)
The album begins from the start immediately with a petard - a song with the same name as a band name. We have here fast melodic guitars and a catchy chorus which works great at the band's concert - ''You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch'' It is a kind of anthem of this band. Another song is very melodic with heavy metal barb - ''Atlantis'' I really like the vocal melodic line, especially in the chorus. The next number ''White Witch'' welcomes us from the first seconds with a great riff with a flanger effect on the guitar. Next to him song ''Confused'' has a really nice rhythmic riff which I really remembered. The fifth number on the album - ''Sorceress'' is a little break and exemption from previous songs. The song is in mid-paced tempo, but very climatic. We can say that we hearing here the clear influence of doom metal. It is worth paying attention in that song for background keys and synthesizers (they are in all in previous compositions like in a whole album really well matched, it's great harmony. They aren't there neither too much nor too little, here everything in that album is in point). In that number much about half of the song we have a clear acceleration of it and show of great solos and guitar themes, which are great in all in the whole album, and they are very richly represented. The sixth song ''Gorgon'' begins very climatic and calm and then it is a classic and very good song from the NWOBHM genre. Next ''Sweet Danger'' is a very interesting song, guitars are here very melodic and the first time listening to it I thought that is some song by Iron Maiden, from their first album or ''Killers'' In all harmony of these guitars reminds me of "Purgatory" just from them. The eighth song called ''Free Man'' it's for me the biggest pearl of that album, beautiful epic composition, which greatly represents the style of these NWOBHM songs. The ninth song ''Angel of Death'' it's the hardest moment surely from the whole album. Song begins from a very heavy metal riff, which accompanies us for almost all song length. The last song in that album ''Devil's Tower'' it's instrumental composition, kind of outro in that album, which is buckle and end of that amazing album. Song begins very mystic and reminds me immediately with occult, climates (it is like a kind of composition that sums up the whole album - we have here the climate, atmosphere, melodic solos, great riff - that is simply what this album treats us to) Summary, Angel Witch - ''Angel Witch'', for people who love heavy metal and listen to metal for a long time, is a kind album of - You Must Hear it Before You Die. I will not write here about any weak songs or weak moments, because the whole of this masterpiece is very clear and you have to listen to it from beginning to end. In my opinion, there are no weak moments here. Also, the music here can be a feast for fans of fantasy and interested in the occult. The whole climate of this album is complemented by a beautiful cover, which was created by the band using the amazing image of the outstanding English painter - John Martin
(The Fallen Angels Entering Pandemonium, from 'Paradise Lost', 1841) The music played by the band reminds me of this picture, it is a kind of battle in the depths of hell, but quite melodic with hope for the desire to get out of darkness and hell or stay here and discover it even more. I heartily recommend this wonderful album and band.

Witamy wszystkich czytelników Metal Hellvolution! Dzisiaj kolejna seria ''Back to the past'', a pod dzisiejsze pióro bierzemy płytę która jest kanonem i jedną z najważniejszych dokonań z gatunku NWOBHM, czyli Angel Witch - ''Angel Witch'' (Grudzień, 1980)
Album rozpoczyna się na start od razu od petardy czyli kawałka o takie samej nazwie jak nazwa zespołu. Mamy tu szybkie melodyczne gitary i wpadający w ucho refren, który świetnie sprawdza się na koncertach zespołu - ''You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch'' Jest to swego rodzaju hymn tego zespołu. Kolejny kawałek, to bardzo melodyczny z heavy metalowym zadziorem w riffach - ''Atlantis''. Naprawdę bardzo podoba mi się tu linia melodii wokalu, zwłaszcza w refrenie.Kolejny numer ''White Witch'', wita nas od pierwszych sekund świetnym riffem z effektem flanger na gitarze. Następny po nim utwór ''Confused'', ma naprawdę fajny rytmiczny riff, który bardzo zapadł mi w pamięci. Piąty numer na albumie - ''Sorceress'', to nieco krótka przerwa i zwolenienie od poprzednich utworów. Utwór jest w średnim umiarkowanym tempie, ale jest bardzo klimatyczny. Można powiedzieć, że słyszymy tu wyraźne wpływy Doom metalu. Warto zwrócić uwagę w tym kawałku na pracę klawiszy w tle i syntezatorów - (są one w sumie w poprzednich kompozycjach jak i na całym albumie, bardzo dobrze dobrane i wyważone, jest świetna harmonia. Nie ma ich ani za dużo, ani za mało, tu wszystko na tym albumie jest w punkt). W tym numerze mniej więcej od połowy utworu, mamy wyraźne przyśpieszenie kawałka oraz popis świetnych solówek i motywów gitarowych, które są doskonałe w sumie na całej płycie i bardzo bogato się prezentują. Szósty kawałek ''Gorgon'' zaczyna się bardzo klimatycznie i spokojnie, a potem jest to klasyczny i bardzo dobry utwór z gatunku NWOBHM. Kolejne ''Sweet Danger'' to bardzo ciekawy kawałek, gitary są tutaj bardzo melodyczne i przy pierwszym moim przesłuchaniu go, myślałem, że to jakiś utwór Iron Maiden, z ich debiutu albo płyty ''Killers'' W sumie harmonia tych gitar kojarzy mi się z utworem ,,Purgatory'' Właśnie od Maidenów. Ósmy utwór o nazwie - ''Free Man'' to dla mnie największa perełka tego albumu, piękna epicka klimatyczna balladowa kompozycja, który doskonale reprezentuje styl właśnie takich utworów z Nowej Fali Brytyjskiego Heavy Metalu. Dziewiąty utwór - ''Angel of Death'' to najcięższy moment chyba z całej płyty. Utwór rozpoczyna się od bardzo ciężkiego heavy metalowego riffu, który towarzyszy nam przez niemal całą długość kawałka. Ostatni utwór na tej płycie o nazwie - ''Devil's Tower'' jest to instrumentalna kompozycja, swego rodzaju outro na tym albumie, który jest klamrą i zamknięciem tej wspaniałej płyty. Utwór rozpoczyna się bardzo mistycznie i kojarzy mi się odrazu z klimatami , okultystycznymi (jest to jakby swego rodzaju kompozycja, która podsumowuję cały album - mamy tu klimat, atmosferę, melodyczne solówki, świetny riff - czyli po prostu to czym częstuje nas ten album) Podsumowując, płyta Angel Witch - ''Angel Witch'', dla osób które kochają heavy metal i słuchają już bardzo długo metalu, jest swego rodzaju albumem z serii - You Must Hear Before You Die. Nie napiszę tutaj o żadnych słabych utworach, czy słabych momentach, ponieważ całość tego arcydzieła jest bardzo klarowna i trzeba ją posłuchać po prostu od początku do końca. Według mnie nie ma tutaj żadnych słabych momentów. Dodatkowo muzyka tutaj może być prawdziwą ucztą dla fanów fantasty, i osób interesujących się okultyzmem. Całość klimatu tego krążką dopełnia przepiękna okładka, do której powstania, zespół wykorzystał niesamowity obraz wybitnego angielskiego Malarza- Johna Martina
(The Fallen Angels Entering Pandemonium, from ‘Paradise Lost’, 1841) muzyka grana przez zespół bardzo kojarzy mi się z tym obrazem, jest pewnego rodzaju jakąś bitwą w czeluściach piekieł, ale dość melodyczną z nadzieją, na chęć wydostania się z ciemności i piekła lub pozostania tu i odkrycia go jeszcze dogłębniej. Serdecznie polecam tą wspaniałą płytę i zespół.
