NECROWRETCH - 'The Ones from Hell' LP

2020's top-level release 'The Ones from Hell' has surely shaken up the metal community. With a strong three-person lineup and eight tracks, the album really made its print in Necrowretch's history. With a help of the vocalist/guitarist - Vlad, I got a chance to review this masterpiece after listening to it on a gold limited vinyl. Currently, we've got a mutual goal - to spread Necrowretch's morbid plague all over the world, but now we want to focus on Poland a little bit more 😉

Polish metalheads unite and discover the young masters of black metal - Necrowretch!!!

The french based band has already released three full-lengths, making 'The ones from Hell' a fourth full album. As long as I have known Necrowretch's music, I think that 2020's release came to the world with the biggest bang. Such professionally done and almost fantasy-like artwork done by Stefan Thanneur is a perfect preview of what's to come from the musical side of the album. Starting with 'Pure Hellfire' which begins with a classical guitar and then later evolves into a dark and heavy black metal track shows how high Necrowretch was aiming with that album - and they certainly reached their goal. The exquisite Ilmar's drum work filled with tasty blast beats and fueled by aggression fits perfectly with morbid vocals and dark, malicious guitar riffs done by Vlad and Wence. It is clearly noticeable that the guys didn't just enter the studio and recorded some tracks on the worst equipment possible to make these songs sound 'black metal'. You can hear that they paid a lot of attention to every detail ranging from sound quality to meaningful lyrics and professionally done layout. Like I mentioned before, the sound is extremely clean, not so distorted or 'dirty'. It is a perfect example that black metal doesn't always come with poor quality sound. Of course, it heavily impacts the feelings that you get while listening to the album... For example, I didn't feel the coldness and frost which I like in black metal albums. It's obvious that Necrowretch wasn't inspired by loneliness in frosted mountains, I'd say that for them the inspiration came most likely straight from hell. The abyss is also hearable as well as the absolute darkness and evil. I really like that Necrowretch somehow broke the now-popular scheme that black metal should mostly give you cold, frosty feelings.

Summing up all of the above, 'The Ones from Hell' is quite a release. It gives you plenty of new, evil inspired music and also shows that it is possible to break out of certain schemes and make something breakthrough. With all the dark, evil, and morbid feeling the album gave me, it also pushed me to think through certain topics and matters which I will not reveal here but surely the album inspired me to make some changes, mostly when it comes to choosing GOOD and LISTENING WORTHY music. Also, I think that Necrowretch wanted us, the listeners, to start listening to variously sounding black metal, not necessarily the kind that is currently popular amongst teenagers - the extremely distorted sounds, shitty quality, and so on... I really recommend you all 'The Ones from Hell' as well as other albums from Necrowretch. We all should discover the new and unknown, and spread it all over the world in order to allow others to uncover another band and maybe let it become their favorite one.

Najwyższy poziom wydawnictwa „The Ones from Hell” z 2020 roku z pewnością wstrząsnął metalową społecznością. Dzięki silnemu trzyosobowemu składowi i ośmiu utworom album naprawdę zapisał się w historii Necrowretch. Z pomocą wokalisty / gitarzysty - Vlada, miałam okazję zrecenzować to arcydzieło po wysłuchaniu go na złotym limitowanym winylu. Obecnie mamy wspólny cel - szerzyć chorobliwą zarazę Necrowretch na całym świecie, ale teraz chcemy trochę bardziej skupić się na Polsce;)

Francuski zespół wydał już trzy full lengthy, co czyni „The ones from Hell” czwartym pełnym albumem. Odkąd znam muzykę Necrowretch, myślę, że wydanie 2020 przyszło na świat z największym hukiem. Taka profesjonalnie wykonana i niemal fantasy grafika wykonana przez Stefana Thanneura jest doskonałą zapowiedzią tego, co ma wyjść z muzycznej strony albumu. Zaczynając z „Pure Hellfire”, który startuje z gitary klasycznej, a później ewoluuje w mroczny i heavy black metalowy kawałek, pokazuje, jak wysoko Necrowretch mierzył z tym albumem - i z pewnością osiągnęli swój cel. Znakomita perkusja Ilmara wypełniona smacznymi blastbeatami i napędzana agresją doskonale komponuje się z chorobliwym wokalem i mrocznymi, złośliwymi gitarowymi riffami Vlada i Wence'a. Wyraźnie widać, że chłopaki nie tylko weszli do studia i nagrali kilka utworów na najgorszym możliwym sprzęcie, aby te piosenki brzmiały „black metalowo”. Słychać, że przywiązali dużą wagę do każdego szczegółu, od jakości dźwięku po sensowne teksty i profesjonalnie wykonany layout. Jak wspomniałam wcześniej, dźwięk jest niezwykle czysty, nie jest tak zniekształcony, ani „brudny”. To doskonały przykład na to, że black metal nie zawsze ma kiepską jakość dźwięku. Oczywiście mocno wpływa to na odczucia, jakie masz słuchając albumu ... Na przykład nie czułam chłodu i mrozu, które lubię na black metalowych albumach. Oczywiste jest, że Necrowretch nie inspirował się samotnością w oszronionych górach, powiedziałabym, że dla nich inspiracja przyszła najprawdopodobniej prosto z piekła. Słychać także otchłań, absolutną ciemność i zło. Naprawdę podoba mi się, że Necrowretch w jakiś sposób przełamał popularny obecnie schemat, że black metal powinien w większości dawać ci zimne, mroźne uczucia.

Podsumowując wszystkie powyższe, „The Ones from Hell” to całkiem niezłe wydawnictwo. Daje mnóstwo nowej, inspirowanej złem muzyki, a także pokazuje, że można wyrwać się z pewnych schematów i dokonać czegoś przełomowego. Przy całym tym mrocznym, złym i chorobliwym odczuciu, jaki dał mi album, popchnął mnie również do przemyślenia pewnych tematów i spraw, których tutaj nie ujawnię, ale z pewnością album zainspirował mnie do wprowadzenia pewnych zmian, głównie jeśli chodzi o wybór DOBREJ i GODNEJ SŁUCHANIA muzyki. Myślę też, że Necrowretch chciał, żebyśmy zaczęli słuchać różnie brzmiącego black metalu, niekoniecznie takiego, który jest obecnie popularny wśród nastolatków - ekstremalnie zniekształcone dźwięki, gówniana jakość i tak dalej ... Naprawdę polecam wszystkim „The Ones from Hell”, a także inne albumy Necrowretch. Wszyscy powinniśmy odkrywać nowe i nieznane lądy oraz rozpowszechniać je na całym świecie, aby inni mogli odkryć inny zespół i być może uczynić go swoim ulubionym.
