Shades of Darkness Magazine is a new position on the Polish music press scene with over two hundred and twenty pages of extraordinary reading. Our main goal is to provide the readers with a magazine of the highest quality. We focus on extensive interviews, without unnecessary shortening of statements and without censorship. We allow artists to have complete freedom to keep our content intriguing and authentic. In Shades of Darkness Magazine you will often find several-page texts dealing not only with music but also philosophy, broadly understood culture, and the dark nature of man. You won't see a stereotypical layout here - one photo and a wall of text. We pride ourselves on a unique, individually designed graphic design consisting of hand-made illustrations, paintings, decorations, and portraits of artists. To meet the expectations of our readers, the magazine was created in two language versions - Polish and English. It also has an eye-catching font that allows you to quickly and comfortably read an interview, article, or review.

In a short time from the premiere, hundreds of readers trusted us, we gained recognition of both Polish and foreign artists. They are waiting impatiently for the next issues of our magazine.

 CORONER – 'Grin' (1993) – Back To The Past series

 The album that I am remembering today is one of the best-sounding albums in terms of technical thrash metal in my opinion. In addition, it is a very original and intriguing album. Today we will talk about the band's album, which in my opinion, alongside Celtic Frost, is one of the most distinguished metal bands from Switzerland. Of course, I am talking about the team - Coroner! Which formation is no stranger to progressive, broken rhythms mixed with sharp strong thrash metal guitar riffs! 

 With this material, I will not list which composition is the best, or which is my favorite, because this is another album on which the entire material is something outstanding! Let me just mention that the album 'Grin' from Coroner greets us at the very beginning with an intro, which is in a cool and very interesting, even ritual, oriental atmosphere. The rest of the songs on the album are technically specific thrash metal with beautiful chaff! What makes me boldly evaluate this Coroner's album with a rating of 10 out of 10 is that it is above all an album carefully and very wisely composed. And of course, I pay tribute to the person who was responsible for the sound of this work! Well done! From drums, bass, electric guitars, and vocals, absolutely everything sounds great here and there is a so-called hunk of meat in the sound! Nothing stands out above anything, the instruments are no louder than the vocals, etc. Everything is at a beautiful, even volume level and it sounds like it is just pleasant in our lovely ears. It is also worth adding that the compositions are great because we have beautiful riffs and a good musical groove in almost every track. All compositions also have the appropriate length, so the album does not tire us at all or does not make us bored while listening to it.

 To sum up, if you love technical thrash playing in the sound of such bands as Vektor, Voivod, Kreator, Sodom, or Death (especially when it comes to vocals) then you cannot pass by this album indifferently - an absolute classic. Coroner music reminds me a bit of Rush playing technical thrash metal!

P.S.  By the way, we want to write and inform you that it will be the last memory of a metal album from the past. The 'Back To The Past' series is now over. Now we just want to focus the most on the current new metal world albums!   Album, który dzisiaj wspominam jest według mnie jednym z najlepiej brzmiących krążków jeśli chodzi o techniczny thrash metal. Na dodatek jest to bardzo oryginalna i intrygująca płyta. Dzisiaj porozmawiamy o albumie zespołu, który obok Celtic Frost jest według mnie jednym z najbardziej zasłużonych zespołów metalowych pochodzących ze Szwajcarii. Mowa oczywiście o zespole – Coroner! Której to formacji nie są obce progresywne, łamane rytmy wymieszane z ostrymi mocnymi thrash metalowymi gitarowymi riffami! 

 Przy tym materiale nie będę wypisywał jaka kompozycja jest najlepsza, albo która jest moją ulubioną, ponieważ to kolejny krążek na którym całość materiału jest czymś wybitnym! Nadmienię tylko, że album 'Grin' od Coronera już na samym starcie wita nas intrem, które jest w fajnych i bardzo ciekawych wręcz rytualnych, orientalnych klimatach. Reszta utworów na płycie jest już konkretną techniczną thrash metalową piękną sieczką! Co sprawia właśnie, że śmiało mogę ocenić ten album Coronera na ocenę 10 na 10 to to, że jest to przede wszystkim płyta dokładnie i bardzo mądrze skomponowana. No i oczywiście chylę czoła przed osobą, która była odpowiedzialna za brzmienie tego dzieła! Świetna robota! Począwszy od perkusji, gitary basowej, gitar elektrycznych i wokalu absolutnie wszystko brzmi tu świetnie i jest tak zwany kawał mięcha w brzmieniu! Nic się nie wybija ponad coś, instrumenty nie są głośniejsze od wokalu itp. Wszystko jest na pięknym równym poziomie głośności i brzmi tak, że po prostu jest przyjemnie w naszych kochanych uszkach. Warto także dodać, że kompozycje są wspaniałe, ponieważ mamy niemal w każdym kawałku piękne riffy oraz dobry muzyczny groove. Wszystkie kompozycję mają także odpowiednią długość, a więc płyta w ogóle nas nie męczy, albo nie sprawia, że nudzimy się podczas jej odsłuchu. 

 Podsumowując, jeśli kochasz technicznie thrashowe grania w klimatach brzmienia takich zespołów jak: Vektor, Voivod, Kreator, Sodom czy Death (zwłaszcza jeśli chodzi o wokal) to nie możesz przejść obojętnie obok tego albumu – absolutna klasyka. Muzyka Coronera kojarzy mi się trochę jakby Rush grali techniczny thrash metal! 

P.S. Przy okazji chcemy jeszcze napisać i poinformować, że będzie to już ostatnie wspomnienie albumów metalowych z przeszłości. Seria ‘Back To The Past’ jest zakończona. Chcemy teraz po prostu skupić się najwięcej na aktualnych, nowych płytach z metalowego świata! Nyctophilia strikes again on the pages of MetalHellvolution! This time with a full-length released in 2018 titled “Ad Mortem et Tenebrae”. The translation of the title means “towards death and darkness” - that surely is where Grief went on this release. Extreme darkness, as well as loneliness, could be felt resonating through the whole release. With very great artwork, the album’s mood was enhanced in order so that the listening experience was splendid and extremely mood influential. 

Deeply hateful guitar riffs sounded extremely cold and distant as if they were screaming at you, to come closer and dive into the frozen lonely void. Then the drums were very balanced, just how they should be - the slower parts really brought out the depressive side of the release. When it comes to the vocals, I like how they were blended into the music - they didn’t stand out, as if they were made to be the main character on the release. In my opinion, the album “Ad Mortem et Tenebrae” was kept in an angry and depressive mood, with its mournful screams, and vocals which felt as if they were spiked through with pain and suffering. This full length strongly influenced my feelings and allowed me to easily transfer to the cold, distant world, in which I put my mind to peace, where I can rest without being interrupted. 

With only five tracks, the album still was able to provide me a full, dark, and cold spectrum of deep feelings and musical visions. This particular album by Nyctophilia provides a cold, dark, but safe space to really see your feelings, dive into your own world, and get lost in it while discovering the sides of yourself, you have never known about. A great atmospheric depressive album that stands strong in Nyctophilia’s discography. also, I strongly recommend it to you - all black metal enjoyers. Also, remember to listen to other releases by the band - they will surely be much to your liking.

    Nyctophilia ponownie uderza na łamach MetalHellvolution! Tym razem z płytą wydaną w 2018 roku zatytułowaną „Ad Mortem et Tenebrae”. Tłumaczenie tytułu oznacza „ku śmierci i ciemności” – to z pewnością miejsce, do którego Grief trafił w tym wydawnictwie. Ekstremalna ciemność, a także samotność można było wyczuć w całym wydawnictwie. Dzięki bardzo dobrej grafice nastrój albumu został wzmocniony, aby wrażenia odsłuchowe były wspaniałe i niezwykle wpływające na nastrój.

    Głęboko nienawistne gitarowe riffy brzmiały wyjątkowo chłodno i odlegle, jakby krzyczały na ciebie, byś podszedł bliżej i zanurzył się w zamarzniętej, samotnej pustce. Potem perkusja była bardzo zbalansowana, taka jaka powinna być – wolniejsze partie naprawdę wydobyły depresyjną stronę wydawnictwa. Jeśli chodzi o wokale, podoba mi się to, jak zostały wkomponowane w muzykę – nie wyróżniały się, jakby zostały stworzone na głównego bohatera wydawnictwa. Moim zdaniem album „Ad Mortem et Tenebrae” utrzymany był w gniewnym i depresyjnym nastroju, ze swoimi żałobnymi krzykami i wokalami, które wydawały się przeszyte bólem i cierpieniem. Ta pełna długość mocno wpłynęła na moje uczucia i pozwoliła łatwo przenieść się do zimnego, odległego świata, w którym wyciszam umysł, gdzie mogę odpocząć bez przerywania.

    Z zaledwie pięcioma utworami album wciąż był w stanie dostarczyć mi pełnego, mrocznego i zimnego spektrum głębokich uczuć i muzycznych wizji. Ten szczególny album Nyctophilii zapewnia zimną, mroczną, ale bezpieczną przestrzeń, aby naprawdę zobaczyć swoje uczucia, zanurzyć się we własnym świecie i zatracić się w nim, odkrywając strony siebie, o których nigdy nie wiedziałeś. Świetny, klimatyczny, depresyjny album, który mocno zagościł w dyskografii Nyctophilia. również gorąco Wam go polecam - wszystkim miłośnikom black metalu. Nie zapomnijcie też posłuchać innych wydawnictw zespołu - na pewno przypadną Wam do gustu.
