   Welcome cordially! Today in the next episode of our series - 'Memories from Shows' I remember a unique concert, which was an amazing feast for all lovers of old and very good classic heavy metal from the 80s. This time it's time for the legendary heavy metal band - Saxon! real veterans and pioneers of this genre visited our country in 2014 and came to Warsaw, to the Progresja club! I cordially invite you to my memories of this event.

   A long time has passed since this concert, exactly 7 years. However, concerts like this one are never forgotten, and also in this event, it remains in my mind and memories for a very long time. Unfortunately, I don't remember who played Support then before Skid Row, but I remember the Skid concert very well! When a band in the past with a brilliant vocalist with an amazing vocal range (Sebastian Bach) entered the stage, I immediately felt the incredible Heavy Metal and Hard Rock atmosphere around me. The singer of Skid Row, Johnny Solinger, who was present at that time in 2014, may not have had such a wide range of voice as the legendary Sebastian Bach mentioned by me, but for me, Johnny managed anyway and presented himself at this concert really decently. The setlist during their show was also very good because we could hear such classic songs from this band and the best ones such as' 'Slave to the Grind', '18 and life', 'Big Guns' or 'Youth Gone Wild'. In my opinion, the Skids played the audience very well in front of the main star of the evening - Saxon! After all, the time has come for them - Saxon! I was insanely excited because this band is in the top 10 of my favorite heavy metal bands overall. Despite the fact that the musicians from this band are already years old, they still showed what playing real heavy metal is, and that this genre will never get old - well! What's more, he will never die - Heavy Metal Never Dies! In my opinion, Saxon on stage had such energy that many young musicians from a heavy metal band that is just entering their areas and adventures with concerts could envy them. Biff's voice in great shape and with great power! His vocals cut through the guitars and the screams of the audience. This guy has amazing charisma. As for the sound of this concert, I also remember that it was quite good. I could clearly hear the sharp but warm-sounding of the guitar riffs and the percussion. What can you say about the Saxon setlist at this concert? Well! - simply brilliant! We heard such flagship heavy metal pieces as: 'Heavy Metal Thunder', 'Strong Arm of The Law', 'And The Bands Played On', 'Dallas 1 PM', 'Wheels Of Steel', '747 (Strangers in the Night)' and for encores, the best songs from this the band for me, that is: 'Princes Of The Night', 'Denim And Leather' and my number 1 gem from them, i.e. - 'Broken Heroes' (a song that made me really moved that evening) 

  To sum up, the Saxon concert was a Heavy Metal event that will be remembered for a long time. It remains to be hoped that the concerts will return soon, and I will not be offended if Saxon comes to Poland again. I would love to see them again live in action in our country

  Witamy serdecznie! Dzisiaj w kolejnym odcinku z naszej serii –'Memories from Shows' wspominam wyjątkowy koncert, który był niesamowitą ucztą dla wszystkich miłośników starego i bardzo dobrego klasycznego heavy metalu z lat 80. Tym razem czas na legendarny już zespół heavy metalowy, czyli – Saxon! prawdziwi weterani i pionierzy tego gatunku, odwiedzili nasz kraj w 2014 roku i zawitali do Warszawy, do klubu Progresja! Serdecznie zapraszam do moich wspomnień z tego wydarzenia. 

   Od tego koncertu, mija już spory czas, bo dokładnie aż 7 lat. Jednak takich koncertów jak ten się nigdy nie zapomina, i również w przypadku tego wydarzenia pozostaję on w mojej głowie i wspomnieniach na bardzo długo. Niestety nie pamiętam kto wtedy zagrał na Suporcie jeszcze przed zespołem Skid Row, ale sam koncert Skidów pamiętam już bardzo dobrze! Kiedy zespół w którym w przeszłości występował genialny wokalista z niesamowitą skalą głosu, (czyli Sebastian Bach) wszedł na scenę, to od razu poczułem niesamowitą Heavy Metalową i Hard Rockową atmosferę wokół mnie. Obecny wtedy w 2014 roku wokalista Skid Row – Johnny Solinger być może nie miał, aż tak szerokiej skali głosu jak wspomniany przeze mnie wyżej legendarny już Sebastian Bach, to jednak jak dla mnie Johnny i tak dał radę i zaprezentował się na tym koncercie naprawdę przyzwoicie. Setlista podczas ich show również była bardzo dobra, ponieważ mogliśmy usłyszeć tak klasyczne kawałki tego zespołu i najlepsze jak np.: 'Slave to the Grind', '18 and life', 'Big Guns' lub 'Youth Gone Wild'. Według mnie Skidzi świetnie rozgrali publiczność przed główną gwiazdą wieczoru czyli Saxonem! W końcu przyszedł czas właśnie na nich – Saxon! Byłem szalenie podekscytowany, ponieważ ten zespół jest w top 10 moich ulubionych zespołów heavy metalowych ogólnie. Pomimo tego, że muzycy z tego zespołu mają już swoje lata, to i tak pokazali czym jest granie prawdziwego heavy metalu, i że ten gatunek nigdy się nie zestarzeje – ba! Mało tego on nigdy nie umrze – Heavy Metal Never Dies! Według mnie Saxoni na scenie mieli taką energię, jaką mogli pozazdrościć im niejedni młodzi muzycy z jakiegoś heavy metalowego zespołu, który dopiero wkracza na swoje rewiry i przygody z koncertowaniem. Głos Biffa w świetnej formie i o wielkiej mocy! Jego wokal aż przebijał się przez gitary i krzyki publiczności. Ten facet ma niesamowitą charyzmę. Jeśli chodzi właśnie o kwestię nagłośnienia tego koncertu, też pamiętam, że była dość dobra. Wyraźnie słyszałem ostre, ale ciepło brzmiące gitarowe riffy i pracę perkusji. Cóż można powiedzie o setliście Saxonów na tym koncercie? No cóż! – po prostu znakomita! Usłyszeliśmy takie sztandarowe kawałki heavy metalowe jak: 'Heavy Metal Thunder', 'Strong Arm of The Law', 'And the Bands Played On', 'Dallas 1 PM', 'Wheels Of Steel', '747 (Strangers in the Night)' oraz na bisy najlepsze jak dla mnie prywatnie utwory tego zespołu czyli: 'Princes Of The Night', 'Denim And Leather' i moja numer 1 perełka od nich czyli – 'Broken Heroes' (utwór przy którym tego wieczoru naprawdę się wzruszyłem) 

   Podsumowując, koncert Saxon to wydarzenie Heavy metalowe, które na długo zapada w sercu i w pamięci. Pozostaje mieć nadzieję, że koncerty niedługo powrócą, a ja nie obrażę się jeśli Saxon zawita znowu do Polski. Bardzo chciałbym zobaczyć ich jeszcze raz na żywo w akcji w naszym kraju.

 AFRAID OF DESTINY - 'Agony '

  Time for another album under the patronage of Mara Productions! Today I have the pleasure to review the album titled 'Agony' by Afraid Of Destiny. They are a group from Italy and they represent Atmospheric / Depressive Black metal. I cordially invite you to read my short review of their album, in which I will talk about their musical work.

  From the very first minutes, or actually from the very first seconds, our ears, listening to the intro to this album, feel perfect that we will deal with very sad and depressive melodies. This album welcomes us with an intro in which we have a piano melody reminiscent of the soundtrack to the movie 'Requiem For a Dream' After the intro, we are welcomed by a piece divided into two parts - 'A Journey Into Nothingness' (Part 1 and 2) in this composition as with all tracks on this album, I noticed that we usually deal with a steady to moderate rhythm of the songs. I can even say that the rhythm section on this album has a bit of a doom metal feel to it. Which does not change the fact that we still have decent black metal. The vocalist's voice on this album is quite low and growling. However, the whole sound of this album - both electric guitars, bass guitar, and drums is really well-positioned for me. The whole mix and mastering of this album is also well done here and deserves praise. First of all, the volume levels between all instruments and the vocals are even - which can be heard very clearly. What I deserve on this album, as for me the biggest plus, is the excellent use of all ambient sound effects and a well-matched addition of nature sounds to the music, thanks to which the depth and darkness of this album, as well as sadness, were emphasized even more by it all. For example, in the song entitled 'Rain, Scars, and The Climb', we have great use of storm sounds. Overall the guitar riffs and guitar melodies on this album are also interesting, and most importantly, they are very nice rhythmically with the drums. My leg and head moved to the beat by itself. On this album, we also have a cover of the song 'Sweet Illness of Mine'by Lifelover (it can be a great flavor, especially for Lifelover fans)

  The Italian metallers really have a talent for making good black metal, at a fairly high level. Apart from Afraid of Destiny, I know a couple of bands that play black metal music and they are from Italy. I recommend this album to all listeners who like depressive, atmospheric, and melancholic black metal. This is a record that will be best listened to on some very cloudy, dark, and gray, rainy days. I think that fans of bands such as Thy Light, Enisum, and Eyelids should become familiar with the band Afraid of destiny - with this album and their music in general!

  Czas na kolejną recenzję płyty spod patronatu Mara Productions! Dzisiaj mam przyjemność recenzować płytę pod tytułem 'Agony' zespołu Afraid Of Destiny. Jest to grupa pochodząca z Włoch i reprezentuję metal z gatunku Atmosferycznego / Depresyjnego Black metalu. Serdecznie zapraszam do mojej krótkiej lektury, w którym opowiem o ich muzycznym dziele. 

  Od pierwszych minut, a właściwie to już od pierwszych sekund nasze uszy słuchając intra do tego albumu doskonale czują, że będziemy mieli do czynienia z melodiami bardzo smutnymi i depresyjnymi. Ta płyta wita nas intrem, w którym mamy melodię na pianinie kojarzącą mi się z soundtrackiem do filmu 'Requiem For a Dream' Po intrze wita nas kawałek podzielony na dwie części – 'A Journey Into Nothingness' (Part 1 i 2) w tej kompozycji jak i we wszystkich numerach na tej płycie, zauważyłem, że zazwyczaj mamy do czynienia ze stałym i średnio umiarkowanym rytmem utworów. Mogę nawet stwierdzić, że sekcja rytmiczna na tej płycie jest nawet trochę w klimatach doom metalu. Co nie zmienia faktu, że mamy nadal porządny black metal. Głos wokalisty na tej płycie jest dość niski, growlujący. Natomiast całość brzmienia tej płyty – zarówno brzmienie gitar elektrycznych, gitary basowej i perkusji jest naprawdę bardzo dobrze jak dla mnie ustawione. Cały miks i mastering tej płyty też jest tu dobrze wykonany i zasługuję na słowa uznania. Przede wszystkim są wyrównane poziomy głośności pomiędzy wszystkimi instrumentami, a wokalem – co zresztą bardzo wyraźnie można usłyszeć. Co zasługuję na tej płycie, jak dla mnie na największego plusa, to znakomite użycie wszystkich efektów dźwiękowych w tle (ambient) oraz bardzo dobre dopasowanie dźwięków przyrody do muzyki, dzięki którym głębia i mroczność tego albumu, oraz smutek jeszcze bardziej zostało przez to wszystko podkreślone. Np. w utworze pod tytułem 'Rain, Scars, and the Climb' mamy świetne użycie dźwięków burzy. Ogólnie riffy gitarowe i melodię gitar na tym albumie są również ciekawe, i co najważniejsze bardzo fajnie rytmicznie współgrają z perkusją. Noga i głowa, aż sama ruszała mi się do rytmu. Na tym albumie mamy także, cover utworu 'Sweet Illness of Mine' zespołu Lifelover (to może być świetnym smaczkiem, zwłaszcza dla fanów Lifelovera) 

  Podsumowując, metalowcy z Włoch naprawdę mają talent do robienia dobrego black metalu, na dość wysokim poziomie. Oprócz Afraid of Destiny znam jeszcze parę zespołów grających muzykę black metalową i są właśnie z Włoch. Tą płytę polecam wszystkich słuchaczom, którzy lubią depresyjny, atmosferyczny i melancholijny black metal. Jest to wydawnictwo, które najlepiej będzie się słuchało w jakiś bardzo pochmurny, ciemny i szary, deszczowy dzień. Myślę, że fani takich zespołów Jak: Thy Light, Enisum i Eyelids powinni zaznajomić się właśnie z zespołem Afraid of destiny – z tym albumem i ogólnie z ich muzyką!

EMPEROR 'In The Nightside Eclipse' (1994) - Back To The Past

EMPEROR is a band that needs no introduction, and probably no review as well...

But as you know, we have a special series on our zine, called 'Back To The Past', in which we review old albums and EPs. So as you have probably deduced by now, in this part of BTTP, Emperor got its chance to be taken under very deep and detailed analysis.

This album, a kind of the father figure in black metal, has 99% of positive aspects and characteristics, with only one extremely small flaw...

But let's start on a more positive side now- knowing that this is a first full-length album of a then-young band, we couldn't expect a black metal mastery- but how wrong this statement turned out to be.

The young Emperor guys did an outstanding job on this full-length.

Starting with extremely brutal guitar riffs, performed by two guitar gods- Samoth and Ihsahn will satisfy even the most demanding metal connoisseur. Those riffs were backed up fiercely by a decent job on bass by Tchort, which allowed guitars to stand out, and highlighted their importance, and added a dark depth to each instrument. The guitar work while being extremely brutal is also very symphonic and has an exquisite demonic feeling to itself.

This outstanding guitar work is fiercely backed up by anger-driven drums performed by Faust. That drum work is one of the best drum performances in Emperor's history. It's entirely anger-driven, fast, and brutal, but at the same time the usage of blasts and cymbals doesn't sound overrated, and the amount of them doesn't suffocate you.

The keyboard sound adds an old, cinematic-like feeling to the music, making it extremely mood influential.

Now let's touch upon the topic of vocals - a little flaw here and there was noticed by me.

Of course, Ihsahn did a tremendous job with the vocals, sounding as if he was strangulated by the demonic powers.

But unfortunately, at some points, he crossed the line and sounded like an angry cat, after you stepped on its tail...

With this vocal mishap being the only flaw, I have to say that the album has no other mistakes.

With the music being absolutely flawless, we can focus on the mood side of the album - which also was spotless as well as extremely rich in emotional and music-related visions.

I'm pretty sure that this album will invoke in all of us the love and appreciation for cold, grim, and evil mood, as well as will introduce us to the calming visuals of dark and dusty dungeons, with the smell of long-forgotten tortures that once took place there...

Outstanding musicianship graced us on 'The Nightside Eclipse'.

Flawless music, great mood, and overall utterly dark experience are contained on this father-figure album. 

Knowing that people still like and listen to this release to this day, only shows how timeless the record, and hopefully it'll still be appreciated in the ten, twenty, and even fifty years from now...

EMPEROR to zespół, którego nie trzeba przedstawiać, ani chyba też nawet recenzować ...

Ale jak wiecie, w naszym zinie mamy specjalną serię zatytułowaną „Back To The Past”, w której recenzujemy stare albumy i EPki. Jak więc już zapewne wywnioskowaliście, w tej części BTTP Emperor dostał szansę poddania się bardzo dogłębnej i szczegółowej analizie.

Ten album, jest swego rodzaju postacią ojca w black metalu, ma 99% pozytywnych aspektów i cech, z tylko jedną bardzo małą wadą ...

Ale zacznijmy teraz od pozytywnej strony - wiedząc, że jest to pierwszy pełnometrażowy album młodego wówczas zespołu, nie mogliśmy spodziewać się mistrzostwa black metalowego - ale jak bardzo błędne okazało się to stwierdzenie...

Młode chłopaki z Emperor wykonały świetną robotę na tym pełnometrażowym wydaniu.

Począwszy od niezwykle brutalnych gitarowych riffów, w wykonaniu dwóch gitarowych bogów - Samotha i Ihsahna, zadowoli nawet najbardziej wybrednego konesera metalu. Te riffy były zaciekle wspierane przez przyzwoitą pracę na basie Tchorta, co pozwoliło gitarom wyróżnić się i podkreślić ich znaczenie oraz nadać każdemu instrumentowi mroczną głębię. Gra gitary, będąc niezwykle brutalną, jest również bardzo symfoniczna i ma w sobie wyśmienite demoniczne uczucie.

To wybitne dzieło gitarowe jest silnie wspierane przez napędzane złością bębny w wykonaniu Fausta. Owa gra na perkusji jest jednym z najlepszych wykonań perkusyjnych w historii Emperor. Jest całkowicie napędzana złością, szybka i brutalna, ale jednocześnie użycie blastów i talerzy nie brzmi przereklamowanie, a ich ilość nie dusi i nie sprawia, że masz ich dość.

Brzmienie keyboard'u dodaje muzyce starego, filmowego charakteru, wywiera również niesamowity wpływ na nastrój.

Przejdźmy teraz do tematu wokali - tu i ówdzie mała wada została przeze mnie zauważona.

Oczywiście Ihsahn wykonał świetną robotę z wokalem, brzmiąc, jakby był duszony przez demoniczne moce...

Ale niestety w niektórych momentach przekroczył granicę i brzmiał jak wściekły kot, po tym, jak nadepnąłeś na jego ogon ...

Jedyną wadą jest to wokalne przekroczenie linii dobrego brzmenia w niektórych momentach, ale tak naprawdę na płycie nie ma innych błędów.

Ponieważ muzyka jest absolutnie bezbłędna, możemy skupić się na nastrojowej stronie albumu - która również była nieskazitelna, a także niezwykle bogata w emocjonalne i muzyczne wizje.

Jestem prawie pewna, że ten album wywoła w każdym z nas miłość i uznanie dla zimnego, ponurego i złego nastroju, a także wprowadzi nas w uspokajające wizualizacje ciemnych i zakurzonych lochów, z zapachem dawno zapomnianych tortur, które kiedyś miały tam miejsce ...

Znakomita muzykalność zaszczyciła nas na „The Nightside Eclipse”.

Nieskazitelna strona instrumentalna, wspaniały nastrój i ogólnie całkowicie mroczne wrażenia zawarte są na tym albumie, który uważany jest za jeden z pierwowzorów porządnego black metalu.

Świadomość, że ludzie nadal lubią i słuchają tego wydawnictwa do dziś, pokazuje tylko, jak ponadczasowa jest ta płyta i miejmy nadzieję, że nadal będzie doceniana za dziesięć, dwadzieścia, a nawet pięćdziesiąt lat ...

NECROMANTE - 'The Primitive Conception Of Evil' 

Right from the beginning, you'll be positively surprised by NECROMANTE'S broad musical horizons.

The 'Intro' sounds very exotic and introduces you to an extremely creatively-arranged EP- 'The Primitive Conception Of Evil'.

With very rich and detailed artwork completed by the not-your-typical intro, you get a perfect insight into Necromante's deep creativity focused on delivering top-level material throughout the whole EP.

The extremely catchy guitar riffs prove the utter and endless talent of the band - a very varied tempo allows us to get a deeper insight into the full of layers tracks when in each layer you get a whole rich experience of brutal riffs, occult mood, and old-school black/thrash metal soul.

Following, we have drums - well, those were a bit behind the mastery of guitars- they were too schematic, not enough advanced to fit the creatively arranged riffs, but overall the drum performance was quite decent and satisfactory.

And now shifting to the topic of vocals - these were extremely mood influential! Their scratchy, not too high-pitched sound, reminded me of Dead's (ex-Mayhem) MORBID times from 'December Moon'.

Such a flawless old-school sound of the vocal performance deserves to be pointed out and deeply appreciated!

As for the mood, I have already touched upon that topic, but I think it deserves a broader analysis. 

The instrumental, and extremely exotic intros, completed by a mystical sounding outro, allow you to get into a very occult-like mood, which will be present throughout the whole release, only to be enriched by the old-school feeling, as if you traveled back in time to the late 19080's and heard Morbid's 'December Moon' on a cassette.

The experience, each of you'll get from listening to this EP will be rich in emotions and decent, utterly creative music.

Each track is a very unique material, which when looked upon as a whole, makes a flawless old-school black metal entity. 

I don't think that the EP lacks anything - it has all the characteristics that a great black metal release should have, what's more, it influences the mood exquisitely, and the visual side is also done extremely professionally - that artistic job is done by the one and only label - Death Defier Productions on the release I had the pleasure to listen to - cassette. All in all. I think that this is an EP that old-school black metal lovers can't miss.

Dzięki bardzo bogatej i szczegółowej grafice uzupełnionej nietypowym intro, masz doskonały wgląd w głęboką kreatywność Necromante, skupioną na dostarczaniu materiału na najwyższym poziomie przez całą EP.

Niezwykle chwytliwe gitarowe riffy potwierdzają całkowity i nieskończony talent zespołu - bardzo zróżnicowane tempo pozwala nam uzyskać głębszy wgląd w pełne warstw utworów, gdy na każdej warstwie otrzymujesz bogate doświadczenie brutalnych riffów, okultystycznego nastroju i oldschoolowy black / thrash metalowy soul.

    What a strong, brutal, dark, and rather unusual EP.

This release begins with the church-like sounding song-prayers and after a while, those chants evolve into brutal and anger-driven music, which the band claims to be the blackest metal...

We surely get a real deal of brutal and catchy guitar riffs, which haven't got a pure black metal sound. To my ear, they have a bit of technical death metal feeling to them. 

The track which certainly stands out, not necessarily in a positive way, is 'Vilthaaen'. This particular song doesn't really fit the EP -  it has quite a different sound, also you can't really tell certain things apart - everything is fused glued a little too hard, and sounds like a mashed whole, without any dimensions. 

What's more, on 'Vilthaaen' vocals totally suck. Compared to the other three tracks, they are hidden behind the music and sound as if someone was recording them standing in one room while the mic was in the other one. 

Meanwhile, on the rest of the tracks, the guitar riffs and vocals create an outstanding whole, which works incredibly together, and represents darkness, evil, and black metal coldness as it should.

When it comes to the drums, I have to say that I'm impressed by the variety of tempos and creativity contained in the performance.

The sound of them was very decent, not too harsh or loud, it completed the rest of the instruments perfectly, even on the first not-so-good track.

So if we had to analyze deeper the ingredients of the EP, we can certainly say that the guitars were more on the death/technical metal side; meanwhile, the drums represented black metal anger and creativity. When it comes to the vocals, I have to say that they were surely influenced by the deep death metal sound and black metal scratchiness with high-pitched screams.

What is a rather big downside for me, is that the mood wasn't consistent. 

At one point we had a very dark, cold, and dungeon-like feeling, which then quickly faded and was replaced instantly by a fast and chainsaw-like feeling, which was ripping me apart because I couldn't get myself into the first mood, and then I had to quickly adapt to the new, more death metal feeling.

To be honest, I would appreciate it if the mood was a bit more consistent, well glued together, so that the transition between them wouldn't be that abrupt and brutal.

All in all, '1410' isn't entirely a bad release. You can hear a lot of dark creativity, captivating riffs, exquisite drum work, and brutal, almost demonic-like vocals.

The only thing that the EP lacks is the uniformity of the mood, less abrupt changes, and transitions in the sound of the vocals.

But in spite of these rather small flaws, I think that '1410' is a decent release, for folks that enjoy listening to the rather more experimental side of black metal.

Cóż za mocna, brutalna, mroczna i raczej niezwykła EPka.

To wydawnictwo zaczyna się od kościelnych, brzmiących jak modlitwy pieśni, które po chwili ewoluują w brutalną i napędzaną złością muzykę, którą zespół twierdzi, że jest najczarniejszym metalem...

Z pewnością dostajemy naprawdę sporo brutalnych i chwytliwych gitarowych riffów, które nie mają czystego black metalowego brzmienia. Dla mnie mają w sobie trochę technicznego death metalu.

Pozycja, która z pewnością wyróżnia się, niekoniecznie w pozytywny sposób, to „Vilthaaen”. Ten konkretny utwór nie pasuje do EP-ki - ma zupełnie inne brzmienie, nie da się też tak naprawdę odróżnić pewnych rzeczy w nim- wszystko jest trochę za mocno sklejone i brzmi jak zmiażdżona całość, bez żadnych wymiarów, zmian, niuansów.

Co więcej, na „Vilthaaen” wokale są do niczego. W porównaniu z pozostałymi trzema utworami są one ukryte za muzyką i brzmią tak, jakby ktoś je nagrywał stojąc w jednym pokoju, podczas gdy mikrofon był w drugim.

Tymczasem w pozostałych utworach gitarowe riffy i wokale tworzą niezwykłą całość, która działa niesamowicie razem i doskonale reprezentujw mrok, zło i black metalowy chłód, tak jak reprezentować powinna.

Jeśli chodzi o perkusję, to muszę powiedzieć, że jestem pod wrażeniem różnorodności tempa i kreatywności zawartej w wykonaniu.

Jej dźwięk był bardzo przyzwoity, niezbyt ostry ani głośny, doskonale uzupełniał resztę instrumentów, nawet na pierwszym niezbyt dobrym utworze.

Więc gdybyśmy musieli głębiej przeanalizować składniki EPki, z pewnością możemy powiedzieć, że gitary były bardziej death / technicznie metalowe; w międzyczasie perkusja reprezentowała black metalową złość i kreatywność. Jeśli chodzi o wokale, to muszę powiedzieć, że są na pewno pod wpływem głębokiego death metalowego brzmienia i black metalowej szorstkości.

W pewnym momencie mieliśmy bardzo mroczne, zimne i podobne do lochów uczucie, które następnie szybko zniknęło i zostało natychmiast zastąpione szybkim, powierzchownym uczuciem podobnym do piły łańcuchowej, które rozrywało mnie na strzępy, ponieważ nie mogłam wejść w pierwszy nastrój , a potem musiałam szybko dostosować się do nowego, bardziej death metalowego klimatu.

Szczerze mówiąc, byłabym wdzięczna, gdyby nastrój był nieco bardziej spójny, dobrze sklejony, żeby przejście między nimi nie było tak gwałtowne i brutalne.

Podsumowując, „1410” nie jest całkowicie złym wydaniem. Słychać sporo mrocznej kreatywności, urzekających riffów, wyśmienitej pracy perkusji i brutalnego, niemal demonicznego wokalu.

Jedyne, czego brakuje EP-ki, to jednorodność nastroju, mniej gwałtownych zmian w brzmieniu wokali i całego feeling'u. 

Jednak pomimo tych raczej drobnych wad, uważam, że '1410' to przyzwoite wydawnictwo dla ludzi, którzy lubią słuchać raczej eksperymentalnej strony black metalu.

 WITCHFYNDE – 'Give ‘Em Hell' (1980) – Back To The Past Series

   Today in the next series of  'Back To The Past' a very significant album for the development of genres in metal music. Although Witchfynde are mainly representatives of NWOBHM / Hard Rock music, their album called 'Give ′ Em Hell' contributed a lot to the development of black metal. Sodom was also inspired by this musical formation. I invite you to my memories of this wonderful and classic album. 

   What comes to the fore while listening to this album is definitely the vocal and characteristic guitar riffs and melodies, with a hard rock twist. At the start, we are greeted by a track with a very catchy chorus that makes me want to sing. We are talking about 'Ready To Roll' - 'But be there tonight, Be there tonight, Be ready to roll!' Another 'The Divine Victim' This is a number where I want to move my head and flap my hair to the rhythm of the music (Just like with every composition on this album) Track number three has more of a ballad atmosphere. 'The Divine Victim' is this great balladic composition. All in all, the structure of this number and its character remind me of such songs as: 'Remember Tomorrow', 'Prodigal Song' or 'Strange World' by Iron Maiden. The fourth track on this material is 'Gettin 'Heavy' which is another very good live, energetic number. However, the fifth track, the title track 'Give 'em Hell', is a really great composition in every respect. Great riffs, great vocals, and the whole atmosphere of this track is amazing. The sixth number, 'Unto the Ages of The Ages' is, in my opinion, the real gold of this album. An interesting piece, both in terms of structure and composition as well as the atmosphere of sound. Well, it is in this track (somewhere around 4 minutes, so somehow in the transition) we can hear that this theme had a clear impact on the development and beginnings of Black Metal, it is certainly also a favorite track of the Sodom group. The seventh and final track on this album is' 'Pay Now - Love Later'. For me, a very great hard rock closing of this album, again with a catchy and very melodic chorus.

  To sum up, 'Give' Em Hell' is a really great album, not only for NWOBHM / Hard Rock fans but also for every person who just loves to listen to a good metal album. Not only that, it is an album that really influenced the next metal bands and new metal genres, such as the aforementioned Black Metal. In general, this album, the sound of the guitar and vocals, I often associate with a similar sound that we have in the bands: Mercyful Fate and Angel Witch

   Dzisiaj w kolejnej serii 'Back To The Past' bardzo znacząca płyta dla rozwoju gatunków w muzyce metalowej. Chociaż Witchfynde to reprezentanci głównie muzyki z gatunku NWOBHM / Hard Rocka to ich krążek o nazwie 'Give ‘Em Hell' sporo przyczynił się do rozwoju black metalu. Sodom także inspirował się tą formacją muzyczną. Zapraszam do mojego wspomnienia tego wspaniałego i klasycznego już albumu. 

  Co wysuwa się na pierwszy plan podczas słuchania tej płyty, to na pewno wokal oraz charakterystyczne gitarowe riffy i melodie, z hard rockowym zacięciem. Na start wita nas kawałek, który ma bardzo chwytliwy refren, który aż chcę się śpiewać, mowa tutaj o 'Ready To Roll' – 'But be there tonight, Be there tonight, Be ready to roll'!. Kolejne 'The Divine Victim' to numer w którym, chcę się ruszać głową i trzepać włosami w rytm muzyki (Tak jak w sumie przy każdej kompozycji na tej płycie) Utwór numer trzy ma już bardziej klimat ballady. 'The Divine Victim' to właśnie ta świetna balladkowa kompozycja. W sumie budowa tego numeru i charakter kojarzy mi się z takimi utworami jak: 'Remember Tomorrow', 'Prodigal Song' czy 'Strange World' od zespołu Iron Maiden. Czwarty kawałek na tym materiale to 'Gettin ‘ Heavy' to kolejny bardzo dobry żywy, energiczny numer. Natomiast piąty utwór, czyli tytułowy 'Give’ em Hell' jest naprawdę świetną kompozycją pod każdym względem. Świetne riffy, świetny wokal, no i całość klimatu tego kawałka jest niezwykła. Szósty numer, czyli 'Unto the Ages of The Ages' to według mnie prawdziwe złoto tej płyty. Ciekawy utwór, zarówno od strony budowy i kompozycji jak i klimatu brzmienia. No i to właśnie w tym utworze (gdzieś około 4 minuty, czyli jakoś w przejściu) usłyszeć możemy, że ten motyw miał wyraźny wpływ na rozwój i początki Black metalu, na pewno jest to też ulubiony kawałek grupy Sodom.  Siódmy i ostatni utwór na tej płycie to 'Pay Now – Love Later'. Jak dla mnie bardzo świetne hard rockowe zamknięcie tej płyty, znów z chwytliwym i bardzo melodycznym refrenem. 

  Podsumowując, 'Give ‘Em Hell' to naprawdę świetna płyta, nie tylko dla fanów NWOBHM / Hard Rocka, ale również dla każdej osoby, która po prostu kocha posłuchać dobrej metalowej płyty. Mało tego to płyta, która naprawdę wywarła spory wpływ na kolejne zespoły metalowe i nowe gatunki metalowe, takie jak właśnie wspomniany przeze mnie wyżej – Black Metal. Ogólnie ta płyta, brzmienie gitary i wokalu często trochę kojarzy mi się z podobnym brzmieniem jakie mamy u zespołów: Mercyful Fate i Angel Witch

HEGEROTH - 'Degenerate'

Yet another great example of Polish black metal, dedication for music, and utter dark and evil musical talent. 

From the very beginning, we can hear very brutal, evil, and dark riffs, which are a perfect showcase of the talent and musical dedication of the band.

The fast pace of guitars is delivered very delicately; it doesn't overwhelm you, what's more, at some points it evolves into a very mystical, slow tempo, which mostly works as a break from more brutal riffs, and also as a direct mood influent.

This flawless guitar work is followed by brutal and immensely killer drum parts, which won my heart right away.

    With that kind of drum work, the album had to be a fiery release, since you can certainly hear the deep thought-through blasts, sophisticated usage of cymbals, and very anger-driven performance.

All those characteristics are accompanied by very dreadful, dark vocals, which, to my surprise, weren't as high and scratchy as I expected.

Thankfully, their depth wasn't too growl-like, therefore they fitted perfectly to the old-school-sounding musical background, and even made the release a purification of some kind (at least for me and my extreme metal preferations).

The release as a whole provokes many extreme metal-related feelings, as well as musical visions, which enrich the entity of the album and allow it to work together perfectly, have an outstanding sound, and allow the listener to hear and see those evil visions of a demon lurking in the darkest abyss, searching for a prey to possess.

If you distance yourself from the visions and put your focus on the music, you'll hear the vast layers of various notes, feelings, and visions put together with the highest-level vocal performance.

Kolejny wspaniały przykład polskiego black metalu, całkowitego oddania muzyce oraz totalnie mrocznego i bogatego talentu muzycznego.

Od samego początku słychać bardzo brutalne, złe i mroczne riffy, które są doskonałą wizytówką talentu i muzycznego zaangażowania zespołu.

Szybkie tempo gitar jest dawkowane bardzo delikatnie; nie przytłacza, co więcej, w niektórych momentach ewoluuje w bardzo mistyczne, wolne tempo, które głównie działa jako zerwanie z bardziej brutalnymi riffami, a także jako bezpośredni czynnik wpływający na nastrój słuchaczy.

Po tej doskonałej pracy gitary następują brutalne i niezwykle zabójcze partie perkusji, które od razu podbiły moje serce.

    Przy tego rodzaju perkusji album musiał być ognistym wydaniem, ponieważ z pewnością słychać głęboko przemyślane dźwięki, wyrafinowane użycie talerzy i bardzo gniewne, napędzane grozą i agresją wykonanie.

Wszystkim tym cechom towarzyszą bardzo zimne, mroczne wokale, które, ku mojemu zaskoczeniu, nie były tak wysokie i szorstkie, jak się spodziewałam.

Na szczęście ich głębia nie była zbyt growlująca, dlatego idealnie wpasowały się w oldschoolowe muzyczne tło, a nawet sprawiły, że ​​wydawnictwo stało się swego rodzaju oczyszczeniem z masowo produkowanego dzisiaj black metalu.

Całość prowokuje wiele ekstremalnych uczuć metalowych, a także muzycznych wizji, które wzbogacają album jako jedność i pozwalają wszystkim jego partiom doskonale ze sobą współgrać, mając wybitne brzmienie oraz pozwalając słuchaczowi usłyszeć i zobaczyć te złe wizje demona czającego się w najciemniejszej otchłani, szukającego sobie zdobyczy do opętania.

ÆTHERLEIB - 'Congregation for Devil Worship and  Aseity'

Ætherleib's cover art surely catches attention right away and makes you wonder, what the album released by Death Defier Productions will be about... With a pink logo featuring an inverted cross, purple background, and a bit too perfect and happy layout, the EP didn't really seem inviting to me. 

But when we dive into the first track, we definitely can hear the evil and dark doom metal riffs, which are clearly focused on introducing a rather slow, relaxed mood that characterizes the EP.

Focusing on the instruments, I have to say that guitars and drums were connected very well together, they worked as a dark and gloomy whole which was an extremely good mood influential.

Although this perfect instrumental side was pulled down by not-so-fitting vocals. At some points, they were performed nicely, but they were certainly too clear and soft when put next to the riffs. We all know that this is a doom metal/occult rock kind of release so that the vocals won't be very harsh and scratchy, but they didn't fit the instruments at all. Additionally, the lyrics, especially in the first track, could be a little more ambitious - at some points, they weren't glued together, and as a result of that, they didn't make sense and Sounded a little bit off. What's more, I couldn't tell the story behind those lyrics, and since that is an inseparable characteristic of a decent mood influential release, I didn't get a sensible feeling and wasn't influenced by that EP at all. 

As I said earlier, I extremely enjoyed the instrumental work on this release, since it was done flawlessly, with no major mistakes, and it even more brought a fine gloomy doom metal mood into the listening experience. 

Unfortunately, the vocals are a weak side of that release and are rather major flow, same as the lyrics. I could actually forget about the whole vocals unsatisfaction thing, but only if the lyrics were decent enough to fix the situation - sadly, they weren't.

In spite of those flaws, I think that as for a rather new and fresh band, Ætherleib did a very decent job with the instruments, and I think this particular job should be appreciated. 

I think that with time the band has a huge potential to grow, improve and work on perfecting its musical path. 

I'm looking forward to listening to more works by Ætherleib soon, also under the flag of Death Defier Productions.

Mimo tych wad uważam, że jak na dość nowy i świeży zespół, Ætherleib wykonał bardzo dobrą robotę z instrumentami i myślę, że należy to docenić.

Uważam, że z biegiem czasu zespół ma ogromny potencjał do rozwoju, doskonalenia siebie i swojej muzycznej ścieżki.

Nie mogę się doczekać, kiedy wkrótce posłucham kolejnych wydawnictw Ætherleib, również wydanych przez Death Defier Productions.

MARDOM - 'A Path Of No Return'

Polish colors have graced yet again the pages of MetalHellvolution - MARDOM is here! All bow down to the new discovery of a very decent and dark black metal.

MARDOM is a project started by Svetopolk in 2018, with only one quite recent EP - 'A Path Of No Return' (DEC. 13TH 2020) which will be under my deep and careful analysis in today's post.

Let's see what MARDOM cooked up on their first EP, how will it influence me and my mood, whether it'll provoke any music-related visions, and if the musical side will be decent, dark, and mystical...

With four tracks, the EP lasts 22 minutes, so for sure we won't feel overwhelmed by the outstanding material - those four tracks titles already announce a very rich in emotions release, which will certainly be focused on what the cover art shows- cold, frosty, foggy mountains, with howling winds, and birds' songs. Upfront we get very dark, aggressive music,  with lots of melodic add-ins, and heavy mood.

Instrumentally, the EP is done flawlessly - everything goes well together from the very beginning until the end, each track has similarities that make them a whole, but that's the kind of whole where you can divide each part, and see their own, single meaning, as well as the collective one. 

This EP also symbolizes a very important topic - honoring and preserving the black metal history and craftsmanship. 

When it comes to the mood of the release, it was a pure Slavic/Scandinavian feeling. Very dark, evil, and cold mood represents perfectly the main idea of polish black metal. It transfers you to a mystical forest located in the depth of Poland, introduces you to pagan beliefs and ancients rituals.

    'The Path of No Return' is an outstanding release, flawlessly produced, mixed, and finished up. 

The music side leaves a very pleasant feeling, while the mood side completes and emphasizes the musical mastery which is done on this EP.

The release will leave you gasping for more, so hopefully, in the nearest future, we'll get a full-length album from MARDOM, and maybe even some concerts when the time will be right.

Polskie kolory po raz kolejny zaszczyciły strony MetalHellvolution - MARDOM już tu jest! Wszyscy kłaniajcie się nowemu odkryciu bardzo przyzwoitego, mrocznego black metalu.

MARDOM to projekt zapoczątkowany przez Svetopolka w 2018 roku, z tylko jednym dość nowym EP na koncie - „A Path Of No Return” (13 GRUDNIA 2020), który zostanie poddany mojej dogłębnej i uważnej analizie w dzisiejszym poście.

Zobaczmy, co wymyślił MARDOM na swojej pierwszej EPce, jak wpłynie to na mnie i mój nastrój, czy sprowokuje jakieś wizje związane z muzyką i czy strona muzyczna będzie przyzwoita, mroczna i mistyczna ...

Z czterema utworami, EPka trwa 22 minuty, więc na pewno nie będziemy przytłoczeni materiałem - te cztery tytuły już zapowiadają bardzo bogate w emocje wydanie, które z pewnością będzie skupione na tym, co pokazuje okładka - chłód, mroźne, zamglone góry, z wyjącymi wiatrami i śpiewem ptaków. Z góry mogę powiedzieć, dostajemy bardzo mroczną, agresywną muzykę, z mnóstwem melodyjnych dodatków i ciężkim nastrojem od samego początku pierwszego utworu.

Instrumentalnie EP jest zrobiony bezbłędnie - wszystko idzie w parze od samego początku do końca, każdy utwór ma podobieństwa, które składają się na całość, ale taką całość, w której można każdą część oddzielić i zobaczyć ich własne, pojedyncze znaczenie, jak i zbiorowe przesłanie.

Ta EPka symbolizuje również bardzo ważny temat - uhonorowanie i zachowanie historii black metalu i tego  arcy-rzemiosła.

Jeśli chodzi o klimat wydawnictwa, to był to klimat czysto słowiańsko / skandynawski. Bardzo mroczny, zły i zimny nastrój doskonale oddaje główną ideę polskiego black metalu. Przenosi do mistycznego lasu położonego w głębi Polski, wprowadza w pogańskie wierzenia i starożytne rytuały.

    „The Path of No Return” to znakomite wydawnictwo, bezbłędnie wyprodukowane, zmiksowane i dopracowane.

Strona muzyczna pozostawia bardzo przyjemne odczucie, a nastrojowa strona dopełnia i podkreśla mistrzostwo muzyczne, które zostało wykonane na tej EPce.

Wydanie sprawi, że będziecie czekali na więcej, więc miejmy nadzieję, że w najbliższej przyszłości otrzymamy pełnometrażowy album MARDOM, a może nawet kilka koncertów, kiedy nadejdzie odpowiedni czas.

 KALT VINDUR – 'Delusions' LP

  Today, another release under the patronage of Mara Productions. This time we are pleased to review the native, music group because Kalt Vindur comes from Poland. I cordially invite you to my short speeches on their album called 'Delusions' 

  At the very beginning, it is worth noting that the gentlemen from Kalt Vindur play a very interesting and original mixture of several genres of metal music. We have here (especially in the rhythm section) a very progressive playing and interesting, quick tempo changes. You can also feel the Black metal in their music, and a slight influence of Doom metal. The lyrical layer of this musical formation, however, oscillates around the themes of pain, death, and wars. Certainly, a big plus on this disc is also the fact that ambient inserts or all kinds of background reverbs on this album create a really unique and exceptional atmosphere. For example, the sound of this band, as well as their entire music, reminded me of a mystical soundtrack for RPG games and such titles as Gothic 3 or Dark Souls. The production and the whole mix and mastering of this album are also really good. All the instruments and vocals are at the same volume level and you can hear them all very well. The vocalist's voice is, of course, harsh and growling, and it was his voice that I associated most with on this album with the whole envelope characteristic of black metal music. In terms of guitar, the riffs on this album are also really interesting and quite mystical, and as I mentioned above, we have broken pace, so we have themes on both drums and guitar - very progressive. The drums also sound interesting here and the drummer of this band is very talented. I like his fast drumming skills and the double-shoe work he has developed. As for the favorite track on this album, however, what caught my attention the most was track number four, 'Nim słońce wyśni ..', there is something truly magical and unique about its sound, and I really like the rhythm in this composition. The only downside to the album 'Delusions' is that it is too short for me. It only takes 32 minutes in total. This leaves me a bit unsatisfied and having 6 full songs on this album, it's really cool if the band added 2 more songs to have 8 full numbers, and the whole album would probably be extended to around 45 minutes.

   All in all, if you like Progressive Black Metal in such climates as Enslaved, I think you might like Kalt Vindur. Maybe this resemblance to Enslaved is only to a small degree when it comes to Kalt Vindur, but the guys really do a good and interesting job. In addition, it is really worth supporting and you need to support new young metal bands from our home scene!

   Dzisiaj kolejne wydawnictwo prosto spod patronatu Mara Productions. Tym razem mamy przyjemność zrecenzować rodzimą, ojczystą grupę muzyczną, ponieważ zespół Kalt Vindur pochodzi właśnie z Polski. Serdecznie zapraszam do moich krótkich wywodów na temat ich albumu o nazwie 'Delusions'

   Już na samym początku warto zaznaczyć, że Panowie z Kalt Vindur grają bardzo ciekawą i oryginalną mieszankę połączenia kilku gatunków muzyki metalowej. Mamy Tutaj bowiem (zwłaszcza w sekcji rytmicznej) granie bardzo progresywne i ciekawe szybkie zmiany tempa. Da się wyczuć w ich muzyce także Black metal, oraz lekki wpływ Doom metalu. Warstwa liryczna tej formacji muzycznej natomiast oscyluję wokół tematyki: bólu, śmierci i wojen. Na pewno dużym plusem na tym krążku jest także to, że wstawki ambientowe czy wszelkiego rodzaju pogłosy w tle na tej płycie robią naprawdę niepowtarzalny i wyjątkowy klimat. Mi na przykład brzmienie tego zespołu jak ich cała muzyka, skojarzyła się z mistycznym soundtrackiem do gier z gatunku RPG i takich tytułów jak: Gothic 3, albo Dark Souls. Produkcja jak i cały mix oraz mastering tego albumu też jest naprawdę bardzo dobry. Wszystkie instrumenty jak i wokal są na równym poziomie głośności i wszystkie bardzo dobrze słychać. Głos wokalisty jest oczywiście w klimacie harshu i growlu i to właśnie jego głos najbardziej skojarzył mi się na tym albumie z całą otoczką charakterystyczną dla muzyki black metalowej. W kwestii gitarowej, to riffy na tym albumie są też naprawdę ciekawe i dość mistyczne, no i jak już wspomniałem wyżej mamy łamanę tempa, a więc mamy motywy zarówno na perkusji jak i gitarze – bardzo progresywne. Perkusja brzmi tutaj również ciekawie, a perkusista tego zespołu jest bardzo utalentowany. Podobają mi się jego umiejętności szybkiej gry na perkusji, oraz wypracowana przez niego praca podwójnej stopki. Co do ulubionego utworu na tej płycie, to jednak moją uwagę najbardziej przykuł kawałek numer cztery czyli  'Nim słońce wyśni..' jest w tym utworze naprawdę coś magicznego i wyjątkowego w jego brzmieniu oraz rytm w tej kompozycji naprawdę mi się podoba. Jedynym w sumie minusem płyty 'Delusions' jest to, że jak dla mnie jest ona zbyt krótka. Trwa w sumie tylko 32 minuty. Pozostawia to u mnie pewien niedosyt, i mając 6 pełnych kawałków na tej płycie, naprawdę fajnie jakby zespół dodał jeszcze 2 kompozycji by było 8 pełnych numerów, a całość płyty pewnie wydłużałby się do trwania gdzieś około 45 minut. 

   Podsumowując, jeśli lubisz Progresywny black metal w takich klimatach jak Enslaved to myślę, że Kalt Vindur może ci się naprawdę spodobać. Może to podobieństwo do Enslaved jest tylko w malutkim stopniu jeśli chodzi o Kalt Vindur, ale naprawdę chłopaki robią dobrą i ciekawą robotę. Poza tym naprawdę warto wspierać i trzeba wspomagać nowe młode zespoły metalowe z naszej rodzimej sceny!
