MACE HEAD – „Demo”

   Mace Head is visiting our website for the third time! The project of a very talented Czech is great music material for fans of underground and slightly dungeon/synth black metal. Demo Mace Head is music that is perfect for card games “Magic The Gathering” or “Dungeons & Dragons” or RPG games like "Lands Of Lore" and "Eye Of The Beholder"

   At the very beginning, we have an intro that reminds me of the sound of ambient and synth inserts like in Burzum, or synthesizers in the intro of the song "Mr. Crowley" by Ozzy Osbourne. The whole sound of this demo is also supported by the fact that the album was recorded at home. Thanks to this, we have a nice raw sound in guitars, and especially in drums. It is music that sounds like a cave, an abyss through which we walk with a torch in hand. The most memorable after listening to this material from Mace Head are the songs: "Necromancer's Fate", "The Cursed Ones Went Out" and "Enter The Crypt". Virtually all of the material on this demo does not slow down from the beginning to the end and everything is very coherent and clear. And the most important thing for black metal - D-Beat on drums is here! The tracks are very well combined with each other - this is definitely a big plus of this release.

   In summary, if you are a fan of RPGs and the fantasy genre (card and computer games), Mace Head will definitely be the perfect soundtrack for this atmosphere. In addition, listeners and fans of Burzum's music (especially ambient and synth Burzum pieces) will surely find something for themselves in this demo!

   Mace Head gości na naszej stronie już po raz trzeci! Myślę, że nie bez powodu, ponieważ projekt bardzo utalentowanego Czecha jest świetnym materiałem muzycznym dla fanów undergroundowego i lekko dungeon/synthowego black metalu. Demo Mace Head to muzyka, która idealnie nada się pod rozgrywki karcianej przy ''Magic The Gathering'' lub ''Dungeons&Dragons'', albo przy grach RPG typu „Lands Of Lore” i „Eye Of The Beholder”

   Na samym początku mamy intro, które klimatem przypomina mi brzmienie wstawek ambientowych, synthowych jak u Burzum, albo syntezatory w intrze utworu „Mr Crowley” Ozziego Osborune’a. Całemu brzmieniu tego demka sprzyja jeszcze to, że płyta została nagrana w warunkach domowych. Dzięki temu mamy fajne surowe brzmienie w gitarach, no i zwłaszcza w perkusji. To muzyka, która brzmi jakby z jakieś jaskini, otchłani przez którą przechodzimy z pochodnią w ręku. Najbardziej po przesłuchaniu tego materiału od Mace Head zapadły mi w pamięć utwory: „Necromancer’s Fate” „The Cursed Ones Went Out” i „Enter The Crypt” Naprawdę świetne kompozycję z ciekawymi riffami gitarowymi no i tym co w old-schoolowym blacku lubimy najbardziej – czyli D-Beat na perkusji! Praktycznie całość materiału na tym demie od początku do końca nie zwalnia z tempa i wszystko jest bardzo spójne i klarowne. Utwory są ze sobą bardzo dobrze połączone – to na pewno duży plus tego wydawnictwa. 

   Podsumowując, jeśli jesteś fanem gier RPG i gatunku fantasy (karcianych i tych komputerowych) Mace Head będzie na pewno idealnym soundtrackiem pod te klimaty. Dodatkowo słuchacze i fani muzyki Burzum (zwłaszcza ambientowych i synthowych kawałków Burzum) znajdą w tym demie na pewno coś dla siebie!

SHADES OF DARKNESS MAGAZINE - Issue no.1

The first issue of Shades of Darkness came out some time ago and provoked many opposite opinions which we will analyze today and approve or disapprove. 

Many people were hyped up by the release of that magazine, but as soon as they received their copy the hype cooled down and they were rather unpleasantly surprised by noticeable mistakes.

First of all - the cover. I mean, what the hell has happened there??? It is extremely pixelized, the logos aren't looking well together, and I'm not going to write about the missing logo of Graveland (that's an unthinkable mistake) while the logos of some sucky bands are there...

Such a shame.

Diving deeper we get a huge amount of excellently done and captivating interviews - the way in which they were done was splendid. They weren't about the politics or other irrelevant topics - the history of the band, its music, and important events were mentioned and talked about. That's what I really like - focusing on what matters, not just wanting to show a band in a bad light because of their political views, or lack of them.

The next thing are the noticeable mistakes in the interviews - the titles of albums were translated wrongly what means to me that the author used a common translator to convert the answers from English to polish and didn't check the correctness later. 

I'm sure that not everyone noticed that, but as soon as I saw that in the interviews of one of my favorite bands I was shocked and couldn't believe that these mistakes are now printed and sold to the customers.

Leaving this topic, I would like to focus on the layout of the magazine - brilliant artworks by Marek Soszyński looked very professional yet creatively designed pages were too much and disrupted me from reading by the overwhelming amount of drawings and such.

In general, the interviews and reviews are a great vault of useful, captivating information which will reveal a bit more unknown facts about the bands.

When it comes to the cover art or the layouts I wasn't satisfied with the unprofessionalism present on the cover and mishmash on the pages of the mag. 

Also, the unfortunate mistakes - we all make them, but if something is for sale for a rather bigger price it should be worth it then.

In general, this is certainly not a magazine meant for underground, talented bands. Its place is in big commercial stores and will most likely contain big-money bands from all over the world - it's not a bad idea but we already have plenty of magazines like that one so Shades of Darkness isn't anything cutting-edge.

    Pierwszy numer Shades of Darkness ukazał się jakiś czas temu i wywołał wiele przeciwnych opinii, które dziś przeanalizujemy i zaakceptujemy lub nie.

Wiele osób było podekscytowanych wydaniem tego pisma, ale gdy tylko otrzymali swój egzemplarz, szum opadł i byli raczej niemile zaskoczeni zauważalnymi błędami i niedopracowaniami .

    Przede wszystkim – okładka. Mam na myśli, co się tam do cholery stało??? Jest ekstremalnie rozpikselowana, logotypy nie pasują do siebie i nie zamierzam pisać o braku logo Graveland (to błąd nie do pomyślenia), podczas gdy są tam logo niektórych kiepskich zespołów...

Taki wstyd.

Zanurzając się głębiej, dostajemy ogromną ilość świetnie zrobionych i urzekających wywiadów - sposób, w jaki zostały wykonane, był znakomity. Nie dotyczyły polityki czy innych nieistotnych tematów - rozmawiano o historii zespołu, jego muzyce i ważnych wydarzeniach. To jest to, co naprawdę lubię – skupianie się na tym, co ważne, a nie tylko na pokazaniu zespołu w złym świetle z powodu jego poglądów politycznych lub ich braku.

Kolejna sprawa to zauważalne błędy w wywiadach - tytuły albumów zostały źle przetłumaczone, co dla mnie oznacza, że ​​autor używał zwykłego tłumacza do zamiany odpowiedzi z angielskiego na polski i nie sprawdzał później poprawności.

Jestem pewna, że nie wszyscy to zauważyli, ale jak tylko zobaczyłam to w wywiadach jednego z moich ulubionych zespołów, byłam zszokowana i nie mogłam uwierzyć, że te błędy są teraz drukowane i sprzedawane klientom.

Wychodząc z tego tematu, chciałabym skupić się na szacie graficznej magazynu - genialne prace Marka Soszyńskiego wyglądały bardzo profesjonalnie, ale twórczo zaprojektowane strony były jednak zbyt przepełnione i przeszkadzały mi w czytaniu przytłaczającą ilością rysunków i tym podobnych.

    Ogólnie rzecz biorąc, wywiady i recenzje są świetnym skarbcem przydatnych informacji, które ujawnią nieco więcej nieznanych faktów o zespołach.

Jeśli chodzi o okładkę, czy layouty nie zadowalał mnie brak profesjonalizmu obecny na okładce i miszmasz na łamach magazynu.

Również niefortunne błędy - wszyscy je popełniamy, ale jeśli coś jest na sprzedaż za raczej wyższą cenę, to powinno w 100% zadowolić czytelnika.

Generalnie na pewno nie jest to magazyn przeznaczony dla undergroundowych, utalentowanych zespołów. Jego miejsce znajduje się w dużych sklepach komercyjnych i najprawdopodobniej będzie zawierało duże zespoły z całego świata - nie jest to zły pomysł, ale mamy już mnóstwo takich magazynów, więc Shades of Darkness nie jest niczym nowatorskim.

MYRHOLT - 'Retterting'

    Norwegian scene- the scene of the beggining, the scene of pioneers… and the scene that inspires younger, newer, and older bands to create something to honor the history and cult of Black Metal…

Myrholt is a little bit older Norwegian band formed in 1992 that has already provided us a hell of good material in the past and in 2020 titled “Retterting”. 

Released on CD by Cold Northern Breeze Records with outstanding, yet very minimalistic cover art and layout still managed to show the Norwegian ancient spirit. 

    The music by Myrholt on that particular album is quite a piece of musical art. Of course, there are characteristic black metal riffs and vocals, but something exciting and rather rare happened-  the band also included traditional Viking-like vocals which really set the mood for this release. I have to say, I extremely enjoyed this mix because it was done flawlessly, without any mistakes or problems, they really embodied the true Norwegian black metal spirit which, from the beginning, connected that raw, crypt-like music with ancient Viking-like chants and guitar riffs. 

What seemed to be a bit forced in other Bands’ materials, in Myrholt’s stood strong, proving their talent and true creativity which is driven by the respect for the genre. 

The characteristic black metal riffs allowed me to go back in time and feel the anger and passion that drove the bands to create and start the whole black metal genre and make it a rebel movement. 

The Viking chants transferred me to ancient times and gave an insight into the whole world of runes, spirituality, herbs, and maybe a little bit of ancient like magic.

    Cold Northern Breeze Records never seem to disappoint with their outstanding, creative, and inspirational releases. With this album and band, the label scored a huge success and proved that they don’t release any bad material at all! 

Myrholt also proved itself that they stand strong in the black metal underground and still are able to provide us killer, brutal yet very creative material while older bands preferred to focus on making money from music. 

I cannot stress enough how madly satisfied I was with that release. It seriously contained everything I needed, and since releases like these don’t happen often, I feel safe to say that “Retterting” is perfect, flawless, anger, and creativity-driven - it basically is one of the best releases of 2020.

It almost feels like the old soul is still in the band and that we can always expect new, creative, old-school material that will provide us a full spectrum of emotions, visions - basically something that nearly no one is able to provide these days.

Myrholt to nieco bardziej doświadczony norweski zespół założony w 1992 roku, który już w przeszłości dostarczył nam piekielnie dobry materiał, a w 2020 roku kolejny, zatytułowany „Retterting”.

Wydany na płycie CD przez Cold Northern Breeze Records z wybitną, ale bardzo minimalistyczną okładką i layoutem, który wciąż potrafił oddać norweskiego ducha starożytności pomimo swojej nowoczesności.

    Muzyka Myrholt na tym albumie to nie lada dzieło sztuki muzycznej. Oczywiście nie zabrakło charakterystycznych black metalowych riffów i wokali, ale zdarzyło się coś ekscytującego i raczej rzadkiego – w zespole pojawiły się również tradycyjne wokale w stylu Wikingów, które naprawdę nadają klimat temu wydawnictwu. Muszę przyznać, że bardzo podobała mi się ta mieszanka, ponieważ została wykonana bezbłędnie, większych problemów, naprawdę uosabiała ducha prawdziwego norweskiego black metalu. Od początku łączyła ona tę surową, kryptopodobną muzykę ze starożytnymi przyśpiewkami i blackowymi riffami .

To, co wydawało się nieco wymuszone w materiałach innych zespołów, u Myrholta było mocne, udowadniając ich talent i prawdziwą kreatywność, która napędzana jest szacunkiem dla gatunku.

Charakterystyczne black metalowe riffy pozwoliły mi cofnąć się w czasie, poczuć gniew i pasję, które napędzały zespoły do ​​stworzenia i zapoczątkowania całego black metalu i uczynienia z niego ruchu buntowniczego.

Pieśni Wikingów przeniosły mnie do czasów starożytnych i dały wgląd w cały świat run, duchowości, ziół i może odrobiny antycznej magii.

    Cold Northern Breeze Records nigdy nie zawodzi swoimi wybitnymi, kreatywnymi i inspirującymi wydawnictwami. Dzięki temu wydawnictwu wytwórnia odniosła ogromny sukces i udowodniła, że ​​nie wydaje i nie ma zamiaru wydawać złego materiału!

Myrholt udowodnił również, że mocno trzyma się black metalowego podziemia i wciąż jest w stanie dostarczyć nam zabójczego, brutalnego, ale bardzo kreatywnego materiału, podczas gdy starsze zespoły wolały koncentrować się na zarabianiu na muzyce zamiast grania z pasji.
