ACID DRINKERS 'Verses of Steel' (2008) - Back To The Past

I'm sharing with you today yet another part of our little series - 'Back to the Past'. It will be a short one, but it will express quite a disappointment of a dedicated Acid Drinkers' supporter - me. Today's post is going to be about an extremely diverse metal album titled 'Verses of Steel' by a well known polish band - Acid Drinkers. This album contains eleven tracks, marking the time of nearly 54 minutes and was released on the 7th of July 2008. As some of you may know, it was the first and last album which featured Olass on vocals and guitars, until his sudden death in November 2008.
In my opinion, the album is quite a mix, to be honest. There are several outstanding tracks, but the other ones are rather regular, not so interesting at all. I don't know what was the idea behind creating this release, but I didn't like all these different kinds of music genres mixed... While listening to it, we certainly can hear a lot of modern metal mixed with thrash, groove, stoner, and punk. At some points, we could hear huge tempo and sound variations, which threw me off a bit. I liked 'Boneless' the most. It felt normal, just as if everything was in the right place. Guitar riffs, vocals, bass, and drums made a perfect, coherent whole on this track, meanwhile, other ones weren't so well made. Acid Drinkers is a talented band but I have to say that this album didn't score the highest point for me at least. Trying out new sounds, riffs, etc., is a great idea, but perhaps not in every track...
This album is worth checking out but I highly doubt that many people will like it. I think that many bands have in their discography a rather contemporary release, which is quite hard to understand and makes no sense to many of us. I wouldn't say that this is a totally bad release. I think that it is not as good as the previous ones when the crossover metal was hearable. I think that this album was a little test for the band if they would like to continue that kind of music, and I'm glad that they developed their style and didn't continue with this one.

Dzielę się z wami kolejną częścią naszej małej serii - „Back to the Past”. Ten post będzie dość krótki, ale wyrazi ogromne rozczarowanie oddanej supporterki Acid Drinkers - mnie. Będzie on dotyczył niezwykle różnorodnego metalowego albumu „Verses of Steel” znanego polskiego zespołu - Acid Drinkers. Ten album zawiera jedenaście utworów, które trwają prawie 54 minuty. Został wydany 7 lipca 2008 roku. Jak niektórzy z was mogą wiedzieć, był to pierwszy i ostatni album, w którym Olass grał na wokalu i gitarach, aż do jego nagłej śmierci w Listopadzie 2008 r.
Moim zdaniem album jest wybuchową mieszanką wielu gatunókw metalu. Jest kilka wybitnych utworów, ale pozostałe są raczej zwykłe, wcale nie tak interesujące. Nie wiem, skąd wziął się pomysł stworzenia tego wydania, ale nie podobało mi się mieszanie różnych gatunków muzycznych ... Podczas słuchania z pewnością możemy usłyszeć dużo nowoczesnego metalu z thrashem, groove, stoner i punkiem. Zbyt dużo wariacji i dziwnych zmian tempa, jest to jeden z minusów tego albumu, który odtrącił mnie najbardziej. Najbardziej spodobał mi się utwór „Boneless”. Wydawał mi się normalne, dopracowany i najlepszy, tak jakby wszystko było we właściwym miejscu. Riffy, wokal, bas i perkusja stanowiły idealną, spójną całość na tym utworze, tymczasem inne nie były tak dobrze wykonane. Acid Drinkers to utalentowany zespół, ale muszę powiedzieć, że ten album nie zdobył, jak dla mnie, najwyższego punktu. Wypróbowanie nowych dźwięków, riffów itp. to świetny pomysł, ale może nie w każdym utworze...
Warto przesłuchać "Verses of Steel" , ale bardzo wątpię, że wielu osobom się spodoba. Myślę, że wiele zespołów ma w swojej dyskografii takie 'nowoczesne' wydanie, które jest dość trudne do zrozumienia i nie ma sensu dla wielu z nas. Nie powiedziałabym, że jest to całkowicie zły album. Ma dobre momenty, nawet jeżeli nie są to całe utwory to ich części. Myślę, że 'Verses of Steel' nie jest tak dobry jak poprzednie wydania, kiedy metal crossover był słyszalny i utwory miały ze sobą więcej wspólnego. Myślę, że ten album był małym sprawdzianem dla zespołu, jeśli chcieliby kontynuować tego rodzaju muzykę, i cieszę się, że rozwinęli swój styl i nie kontynuowali gry w takim nieokreślonym stylu.
