HELFRÓ - 'Helfró'

Recently released album by Icelandic duo - Ragnar Sverris (vocals, drums, songwriting) and Halldor Simon Thorolfsson (guitars, bass, vocals). The record is proudly and greatly representing the mighty genre of black metal. Those two guys represent a strong and fresh duo which for sure provided us with a new feeling which black metal was lacking for some time... I can say for myself, that a strong and influential band entered an extreme metal world with a hell of a record.
'Afeitrun' - great intro song which transfers You into the world Helfró created for us with that release. To my ears, the song has 'Egyptian' sounding riffs at some point what surprised me quite a lot. Somehow that fits just perfectly...
'Ávöxtur af rotnu tré' is the track that introduced us to even more extreme vocals than the first one... I am a huge fan of the speed of drums + guitar which collaborates perfectly with grind-like vocals. The part when the vocalist recites lyrics sounds so extremely strong and Viking-like, brings the perfect Icelandic mysterious feeling to the song.
'Eldhjarta' is a song that continues to show us a great strong and mighty feeling of black metal. This one stands out a little bit more than other records, it seems to me as if it's a bit more creative than other tracks.
'Þrátt fyrir brennandi vilja' - this song gives me a full experience of Icelandic coldness, strength, and dignity. I like how it surrounds you with the feeling of winter (my favorite season btw) and it's coldness and iciness. Maybe that's just me and my feelings but after listening to this track you'll feel warmed up by it's cold.
'Þegn hinna stundlegu harma' - this track, for me, is a continuation of 'Þrátt fyrir...'. It's like the band was taking part in a huge Icelandic battle, fighting with their guitars, basses, and drum sticks... Powerful drum parts (which I am a huge fan of) with great vocals and strong guitar riffs.
'Hin forboðna alsæla' - The song is a little bit slower than the others, which brings a different mood while listening. Vocals sound here as if You're walking through wind and lost souls are trying to speak to you... that song is just beautiful to me... I never heard something like that and I felt moved by the feeling it gave me. The grind-like voice is followed by a higher-pitched screaming and then Viking-like scanding... Those guys really know how to make a powerful track. These changes in the style of singing made me feel like I was sitting in a magical chapel listening to the concert of a very old and life experienced Vikings. The quite mysterious track that is.
'Katrín' didn't make a huge impact on me. Besides sounding deadly and strong and just so perfect, it didn't make me feel much. I can say that this is a greatly developed track. Professional guitar harmonies with bass and drums = perfection and what I love. I like how the guitar 'sings' at some points.
'Musteri agans' the last one... I really liked it after it's intro passed. The paused guitar chords, in the beginning, threw me off a little bit, I felt like they didn't fit in the whole sculpture of such a great track.
Summarizing my review, the whole album feels extremely strong and powerful as if it's made for people who are going to war or getting ready for their extremely busy day (meaning me hahaha). The great music is combined with a beautiful artwork that presents this coldness that the album made me feel. This cold feeling is not negative, in fact, it is a warm coldness that grips you and makes you feel like you're in a right place.
Overall I just can't wait for my paycheck so I can buy Helfró's LP and as well support them in these crazy corona times.

Niedawno wydany album islandzkiego duetu - Ragnar Sverris (wokal, perkusja, pisanie piosenek) i Halldor Simon Thorolfsson (gitary, bas, wokal). Płyta z dumą reprezentuje potężny gatunek black metalu. Ci dwaj, reprezentują mocny i świeży duet, który z pewnością zapewnił nam nowe uczucie, którego brakowało black metalowi przez pewien czas ... Mogę powiedzieć, że silny i wpływowy zespół wkroczył w świat ekstremalnego metalu z tym świetnym albumem.
„Afeitrun” - jest to intro przenoszące Cię w świat, który Helfró stworzył dla nas w tym wydaniu. Jak dla mnie, kawałek ma w pewnym momencie „egipsko” brzmiące riffy, co bardzo mnie zaskoczyło. Jednak pasuje to idealnie ...
„Ávöxtur af rotnu tré” to utwór, który wprowadził nas w jeszcze bardziej ekstremalny wokal niż pierwszy ... Jestem wielką fanką prędkości perkusji + gitary, które doskonale współpracują z grindowym wokalem. Ta część, w której wokalista recytuje teksty, brzmi wyjątkowo mocno, wnosi do utworu islandzkie tajemnicze uczucie.
„Eldhjarta” to utwór, który wciąż pokazuje nam wspaniałe, silne i potężne uczucie black metalu. Ten wyróżnia się nieco bardziej niż inne, wydaje mi się, że jest trochę bardziej kreatywny niż pozostałe utwory.
„Þrátt fyrir brennandi vilja” daje mi pełne doświadczenie islandzkiego chłodu, siły i godności. Podoba mi się to, jak otacza cię uczucie zimy (moja ulubiona pora roku), a także chłód i lodowatość. Może to tylko ja i moje uczucia, ale po wysłuchaniu tego utworu poczujesz się rozgrzany przez zimno (jeżeli to ma jakiś sens)...
„Þegn hinna stundlegu harma” - ten utwór jest dla mnie kontynuacją „Þrátt fyrir ”. To tak, jakby zespół brał udział w wielkiej islandzkiej bitwie, walcząc swoimi gitarami, basami i pałkami perkusyjnymi ... Ten kawałek to po prostu potężne partie bębnów ze świetnym wokalem i mocnymi gitarowymi riffami.
„Hin forboðna alsæla” - utwór jest nieco wolniejszy od pozostałych, co wprowadza inny nastrój podczas słuchania. Wokale brzmią tutaj tak, jakbyś chodził przez wiatr... ten utwór jest dla mnie po prostu piękny ... Nigdy czegoś takiego nie słyszałam... Po grindowym głosie przychodzą wyższe wokale, a następnie skandowanie przypominające wikinga ... Ci faceci naprawdę wiedzą, jak stworzyć mocny utwór. Zmiany w stylu śpiewania sprawiły, że poczułam się, jakbym siedziała w magicznej kaplicy, słuchając koncertu bardzo starych i doświadczonych przez życie wikingów.
„Katrín” nie wywarła na mnie wielkiego wpływu. Poza tym, że brzmi zabójczo, mocno i po prostu tak doskonale, nie czułem się zbytnio. Mogę powiedzieć, że jest to bardzo dobrze rozwinięty i dopracowany utwór. Profesjonalna gitara harmonizuje się z basem i perkusją.
„Musteri agans” ostatni utwór… Spodobał mi się dopiero jak wstęp się skończył. Przerwane akordy gitarowe na początku trochę mnie zniechęciły, czułam się, jakby nie pasowały do całej rzeźby tak wspaniałego utworu.
Podsumowując moją recenzję, cały album wydaje się niezwykle silny i potężny, jakby był stworzony dla ludzi, którzy idą na wojnę lub szykują się na swój wyjątkowo pracowity dzień (czyli ja hahah). Świetna muzyka jest połączona z piękną grafiką. Uczucie zimna nie jest negatywne, w rzeczywistości jest ciepłym zimnem, które chwyta cię i sprawia, że czujesz się, jakbyś był we właściwym miejscu.
Ogólnie rzecz biorąc, po prostu nie mogę się doczekać mojej wypłaty, żebym mogła kupić LP Helfró i wspierać ich w tych szalonych czasach wirusa.
