PSYCHOTIC WALTZ - "The God-Shaped Void" LP

Masters of progressive metal, who love to experiment with music and also add their original avant-garde sound, returned with a new release after a 25-year break since the recording of their last album, "Bleeding" (1996)
Although I admit that their latest album did not captivate me as much as their debut album "A Social Grace" from 1990 (which I privately consider as the greatest and best achievement of this musical formation), one of their latest albums is strong. However, this is not an album for every metal fan, this album is rather aimed at lovers of good progressive rock and progressive metal, which does not lack musical experiments and interesting strange combinations to get unusual sound. When I listened to this album it felt like I was somewhere far beyond outer space or engulfed in a black hole. There is musical chaos in the rhythm and instrumental sections, but it is the most orderly chaos. The band itself is known for the fact that the subject of their songs oscillates around issues related to philosophy, drugs, or abstraction. Of course, the album also has its downsides, as the individual songs have very similar guitar riffs to each other, but there are some strong gems on this album - three songs in particular that stuck in my memory after listening to them. The first of them is the beginning of this album, so - ''Devils and Angels'' An atmospheric intro where we hear some synthesizers and ambient insertions, and then with a strong hit we are greeted by a heavy but very nice rhythmically guitar riff. In the fourth track "All The Bad Men" We have a brilliant guitar solo and a guitar melody. The ninth track of this album ''Season of the Swarm'' is my absolute number one from this album unless it has an incredibly mystical atmosphere and the vocal melody is so mysteriously oriental which I like very much. On this album, in addition to the great work of all the guitars and vocals (which I associate with the style of playing Alice in chains band), various types of insertions of other instruments deserve attention, e.g. We will also hear a melody played on a flute, which with a combination of acoustic or classical guitar inserts on this album, it might appeal to folk metal fans.
To sum up, Psychotic Waltz - ''The God-Shaped Void'' is a very strong metal title this year. To record such a good album, after a 24-year break from the last album, is really - 'hats off', similar to Cirith Ungol and their album Forever Black (2020) where, after such a long break, the band returned with a strong, excellent album. "The God-Shaped Void" I recommend to all fans of heavy music, but who are open to experimenting and have fun with sounds. It is also an interesting item for fans of bands such as Fates Warning (which I am personally quite a fan of) and the Control Denied project of the great Chuck Schuldiner. On this album, we can sense influences and similarities to playing like the above two bands in the melodies and guitar parts.

Mistrzowie progresywnego metalu, którzy bardzo lubią eksperymentować z muzyką i dodawać swoje oryginalne awangardowe brzmienie, powrócili z nowym wydawnictwem, aż po 25 letniej przerwie od nagrania ich ostatniej płyty ‘’Bleeding’’ (1996)
Chociaż osobiście przyznam, że ich najnowszy krążek nie porwał mnie tak bardzo jak ich debiutancki album ‘'A Social Grace” z 1990 roku (który prywatnie uznaję, za największe i najlepsze dokonanie tej muzycznej formacji) to jednak ich najnowszy album jest silną i mocną pozycją. Nie jest to album dla każdego fana metalu, ten krążek jest raczej skierowany do miłośników dobrego progresywnego rocka oraz progresywnego metalu w którym nie brakuje eksperymentów muzycznych i ciekawych dziwnych połączeń aby uzyskać nietypowe brzmienie. Kiedy słuchałem tego albumu, czułem się jakbym był gdzieś daleko za przestrzenią kosmiczną, lub pochłonięty przez czarną dziurę. W sekcji rytmicznej i instrumentalnej występuje tu chaos muzyczny, ale jest to chaos jak najbardziej uporządkowany. Sam zespół znany jest z tego, że tematyka ich utworów oscyluje wokół zagadnień związanych z fiozofią, narkotykami czy abstrakcją, tak się właśnie czułem gdy słuchałem tego albumu, jakbym był po jakiś silnych narkotykach i miał fazę ( I w sumie było to ciekawe i przyjemne doświadczenie) Oczywiście album ma też swoje minusy, ponieważ poszczególne utwory mają bardzo podobne riffy gitarowe do siebie, ale jest na tym albumie kilka mocnych perełek – konkretnie trzy utwory, które utkwiły mi w pamięci po ich pierwszym przesłuchaniu. Pierwszy z nich to początek tej płyty, a więc – ‘’Devils and Angels’’ Klimatyczne intro gdzie słyszymy syntezatory i ambientowe wstawki, a później mocnym uderzeniem wita nas ociężały ale bardzo fajny rytmicznie - gitarowy riff, od którego głowa aż sama chodzi. W czwartym kawałku ,,All The Bad Men’’ mamy genialną gitarową solówkę, oraz melodię gitarowe. Dziewiąty kawałek tego krążka ‘’Season of the Swarm” to mój absolutny numer jeden z tej płyty, chyba dlatego, że ma niesamowicie mistyczny klimat oraz melodia wokalu jest taka tajemniczo orientalna co mi się osobiście bardzo podoba. Na tym albumie oprócz świetnej pracy wszystkich gitar i wokalu (które miejscami kojarzą mi się ze stylem grania zespołu Alice In Chains) na uwagę zasługują różnego rodzaju wstawki innych instrumentów np. usłyszymy tu także melodię zagrane na flecie, co z połączeniem wstawek gitary akustycznej, bądź klasycznej na tym albumie, może się spodobać bardzo fanom folk metalu.
Podsumowując, Psychotic Waltz – ‘’The God-Shaped Void” to bardzo silna metalowa pozycja tego roku. Nagrać tak dobry album, aż po 24 latach przerwy od ostatniego albumu, to naprawdę –"czapki z głów" podobnie w sume Jak Cirith Ungol i ich album Forever Black (2020) gdzie po tak wielkiej przerwie zespół powrócił z mocnym, doskonałym krążkiem. "The God-Shaped Void" polecam wszystkim fanom ciężkiej muzyki, ale którzy otwarci są na eksperymentowanie i zabawę z dźwiękami. Jest to również ciekawa pozycja dla fanów takich zespołów Jak Fates Warning ( których osobiście jestem dość dużym fanem) oraz projektu Control Denied wielkiego Chucka Schuldinera. Na tym albumie wyczujemy właśnie w melodiach i partiach gitarowych wpływy i podobieństwa do grania jak powyższe dwa zespoły.
