NEXWOMB - 'Exegesis of Nihility' LP

A well-known, black/death metal band hailing from Oregon, has a strong set of members - Vardlokker and V.C.T. NEXWOMB already have four releases in its discography, one of them is a full-length album - 'Exegesis of Nihility' firstly released in November 2019 on a cassette, and later on CD by Morbid Chapel Records. Again, without this amazing label's help, Metal Hellvolution wouldn't be able to conduct this review. All the links to NEXWOMB's and label's Bandcamp are at the end of the review.
'Exegesis of Nihility' consists of eight tracks, marking the time of 30 minutes. The tracks have very advanced, long titles - something quite unusual, but thanks to those, I was able to easily interpret the music and message put on each track. Deep, grind-like vocals aren't my favorite here, I surely like death metal and its characteristics but here they didn't quite fit. The only thing which the vocals went well with was the bass guitar. They matched very well and made a coherent whole. Drums and guitars, on the other side, were kept more on the black metal side of music. They went very well together, created, and represented the wanted 'cold' and brutal side of the release. Unfortunately, they didn't quite work with vocals, but thankfully they worked with bass perfectly. I think that bass guitar here was something like a connector between vocals and the rest of the instruments. It kept all the things together even though they weren't a perfect match at some points. Speaking now of the album's mood and emotions that it gave me - well, it was quite a mix of feeling, to be honest. At first, I was a bit startled by the deep vocals which stood out right away. They didn't fit the rest of the music for me, but then all the instruments kind of made up for that little disappointment. They brought these strong, dark feelings that a proper album should have. The aggression stood out to me the most, it was very noticeable, and it seemed as if it was the main driving force behind 'Exegesis of Nihility'.
Summing up, the album is a mix between black and death metal. I can't put the release into just one metal sub-genre but I can surely say that this is a good album, kept in a mystical and sinister aura. It is professionally made, with the highest care for details, the ones that are more musical and other ones that are pure mood influential and emotional. I really think that the vocals should be fitted better, but honestly, if you think that through, and listen to the release a few times, then they start fitting to the music, slowly but still. I think that this album is wonderfully suitable for people that are wandering between death and black metal, and seek for albums with that particular sound.

Znany black / death metalowy zespół pochodzący z Oregonu ma mocną grupę - Vardlokker (znany z Witchbones) i V.C.T. NEXWOMB ma już w swojej dyskografii cztery wydawnictwa, jedno z nich to pełnometrażowy album - „Exegesis of Nihility” wydany po raz pierwszy w listopadzie 2019 roku na kasecie, a później na płycie CD nakładem Morbid Chapel Records. Ponownie, bez pomocy tej niesamowitej wytwórni, Metal Hellvolution nie byłby w stanie przeprowadzić tej recenzji. Wszystkie linki do NEXWOMB i Bandcamp wytwórni znajdują się na końcu recenzji.
„Exegesis of Nihility” składa się z ośmiu utworów, trwających 30 minut. Utwory mają bardzo zaawansowane, długie tytuły - coś dość rzadko spotykanego, ale dzięki nim mogłam z łatwością zinterpretować muzykę i przesłanie zawarte w każdym utworze. Głębokie, grindowe wokale nie są tutaj moimi ulubionymi, na pewno lubię death metal i jego charakterystykę, ale tutaj nie do końca pasowały. Jedyną rzeczą, z którą wokal brzmiał dobrze, była gitara basowa. Świetnie do siebie pasowały i tworzyły spójną całość. Z drugiej strony bębny i gitara były bardziej trzymane po stronie black metalowej muzyki. Szły razem bardzo dobrze, tworzyły i reprezentowały pożądaną „zimną” i brutalną stronę wydania. Niestety, nie do końca współpracowały z wokalem, ale na szczęście doskonale współpracowały z basem. Myślę, że tutaj gitara basowa była czymś w rodzaju łącznika między wokalem a resztą instrumentów. Utrzymywał wszystkie rzeczy razem, mimo że w niektórych punktach nie pasowały do siebie idealnie. Mówiąc teraz o nastroju albumu i emocjach, które mi dał - cóż, to była mieszanka uczuć, tak szczerze. Na początku byłam trochę zaskoczona głębokim wokalem, który od razu się wyróżniał. Dla mnie nie pasował on do reszty muzyki, ale wszystkie instrumenty trochę wynagradzały to małe rozczarowanie. NEXWOMB zapewnili te silne, mroczne uczucia, które powinien mieć właściwie wykonany album. Najbardziej wyróżniała się dla mnie agresja, była bardzo zauważalna i wydawało się, że to ona była główną siłą napędową „Exegesis of Nihility”.
Podsumowując, album to mieszanka black i death metalu. Nie mogę umieścić tego wydawnictwa w jednym podgatunku metalu, ale z całą pewnością mogę powiedzieć, że to dobry album, utrzymany w mistycznej i złowieszczej aurze. Wykonany jest profesjonalnie, z najwyższą dbałością o szczegóły, te bardziej muzykalne i takie, które mają wpływ na nastrój i emocje. Naprawdę uważam, że wokale powinny być lepiej dopasowane, ale szczerze mówiąc, jeśli się nad tym zastanowić i posłuchać płyty kilka razy, to powoli i spokojnie zaczynają dopasowywać się do muzyki. Myślę, że ten album jest odpowiedni dla ludzi, którzy błąkają się między death i black metalem i szukają albumów z takim właśnie brzmieniem.
