Solitary Sabred is a band representing the new wave of traditional Heavy/Power metal from Cyprus. In this tiny country located on the island, there are some excellent metal gems, and Solitary Sabred is one of them. Today I will review their latest release called "By Fire & Brimstone" (2020)
The lyrics layer of this album, as well as the previous albums from this band, revolves around the themes and climates: Fantasy, Battles, and Mythology. As for the instrumental layer on this disc, it is quite rich - it has its own style, but listening to the guitar riffs and melodies you can feel that the band was inspired by bands such as Manowar, Manilla Road, or Slough Feg. Which for fans of these bands will be a big plus for the listeners of Solitary Sabred because the album sounds like it was recorded in the 80s or 90s, so it is a kind of cult and a desire to return to the old school metal sound from those years. The whole album is very well arranged and has its lofty tone. On this album, we have both fast, firm riffs and melody accelerations, as well as slowdowns and very slow, heavy riffs - I would say they even have a very doom metal style. This musical variety works to the advantage of this album. There are no weak tracks on this release, but after listening to this disc, I have my two strongest moments of this album. The first one is the song - "The Scarlet Citadel (Chronicles of the Barbarian King pt.I)" where we have a nice rhythm and guitar riffs as a whole song and great vocals in the chorus of this song. The second best moment of this album, and the second-best composition, is, in my opinion, the last position that closes this album and it is - "Blestem" which is almost ten minutes long piece of traditional heavy metal at its best. In this track, we have great guitar riffs especially at the very end of this track (probably some of the best guitar riffs on this whole album, in my opinion)
In summary, the album "By Fire & Brimstone" by Solitary Sabred is a really strong position when it comes to heavy metal albums released this year. For fans of bands that I described in my review here above, that is Manowar, Manilla Road, or Slough Feg, it can be a great and tasty musical feast. I will also mention the vocals on this album. The vocalist of this band, when I heard him singing for the first time on this album, has a voice that I often associate with three metal singers, and they are: the late, unfortunately, the legendary singer of Sanctuary - Warrel Dane, James Rivera from the band Helstar, and Gerrit P. Mutz from Sacred Steel, so for all fans of these bands, Solitary Sabred's vocals can be liked. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with this release, the cover of this album itself can attract a lot of fans of fantasy atmosphere, and listeners who like metal music with a fantasy theme.

Solitary Sabred to zespół reprezentujący nową falę tradycyjnego Heavy/Power metalu z Cypru. Tak w tym malutkim państwie znajdującym się na wyspie jest kilka naprawdę znakomitych perełek metalowych, a Solitary Sabred właśnie do nich należy. Dziś zrecenzuję ich najnowsze wydawnictwo o nazwie „By Fire & Brimstone” (2020)
Warstwa tekstowa tego albumu jak i poprzednie płyty od tego zespołu kręci się wokół tematyki i klimatów: Fantasy, Bitew oraz Mitologii. Jeśli natomiast chodzi o warstwę instrumentalną na tym krążku jest ona dość bogata – ma ona swój styl, ale słuchając riffów gitarowych, oraz melodii da się wyczuć że zespół inspirował się bardzo takimi zespołami jak: Manowar,Manilla Road czy Slough Feg. Co dla miłośników tych zespołów będzie dużym plusem u słuchaczy Solitary Sabred, ponieważ płyta brzmi jakby była nagrana w latach 80 lub 90 więc jest pewnego rodzaju kultem i chęcią powrotu do oldschoolowego brzmienia metalu właśnie z tamtych lat. Cała płyta jest bardzo dobrze ułożona i ma swój charakterystyczny podniosły ton. Na tym albumie mamy zarówno szybkie stanowcze riffy, oraz przyśpieszenia melodii, jak i zarazem zwolnienia i bardzo powolne ociężały riffy – rzekłbym, że mają nawet mocno doom metalowy styl. Ta różnorodność muzyczna działa zdecydowanie na korzyść tego albumu. W sumie na tym wydawnictwie nie ma żadnych słabych utworów, jednak po przesłuchaniu tego krążka mam swoje dwie według mnie najmocniejsze momenty tej płyty. Pierwszy z nich jest utwór – „The Scarlet Citadel (Chronicles of the Barbarian King pt.I)” gdzie mamy naprawdę fajny rytm i gitarowe riffy jako całość utworu, oraz znakomite i świetne wpadające chórki wokalne w refrenie tej kompozycji. Drugim najlepszym momentem tego krążka, oraz drugą najlepszą kompozycją jest według mnie ostatnia pozycja, zamykająca tą płytę i jest to – „Blestem” czyli prawie dziesięcio minutowy kawał tradycyjnego heavy metalu w najlepszym wydaniu. W tym numerze mamy wspaniałe riffy gitarowe zwłaszcza pod sam koniec tej kompozycji (chyba jedne z najlepszych riffów gitarowych na tym całym albumie, według mnie)
Podsumowując, płyta „By Fire & Brimstone” od Solitary Sabred to naprawdę mocna pozycja jeśli chodzi o heavy metalowe płyty wydane w tym roku. Dla fanów takich zespołów jakie opisałem w swojej recenzji tu wyżej, czyli: Manowar, Manilla Road czy Slough Feg może to być naprawdę doskonała i smaczna uczta muzyczna. Dodatkowo wspomnę jeszcze o wokalu na tej płycie. Wokalista tego zespołu, gdy po raz pierwszy usłyszałem jego śpiew na tej płycie ma głos, który często kojarzy mi się z trzema wokalistami metalowymi, a są to: nieżyjący już niestety, legendarny wokalista zespołu Sanctuary - Warrel Dane, James Rivera z zespołu Helstar, oraz Gerrit P. Mutz z Sacred Steel, więc dla wszystkich fanów tych zespołów wokal Solitary Sabred może się naprawdę bardzo spodobać. Zachęcam do zapoznania się z tym wydawnictwem, już sama okładka do tego albumu może przyciągnąć sporo fanów klimatu fantasy, oraz słuchaczy lubiących bardzo muzykę metalową o tematyce fantasy.
