WITCHBONES - a one-man band, which has already been reviewed a few times on Metal Hellvolution, so there's really no need to introduce this MH veteran.
Today I bring you yet another review of this intriguing project. Thanks to a great label - Morbid Chapel Records, for providing me with this great CD, otherwise, I wouldn't have heard about this release in the first place.
'Akasha III: Salt, Sea, Blood and Fire' is a compilation originally released on Oct 31st, 2019, and recently re-released on Oct 26th, 2020 by MCR.
The compilation consists of six tracks, lasting around 22 minutes. The titles already give you a foggy idea of what's to come, but the only title that grabbed my attention and made me wonder was 'Pigs in Jars' - What will it be about? How will it sound?
Well, let's see by jumping right into the review.
Yet again, this album has movie like parts in the tracks. It started with a woman talking about the celebration of Halloween - she sounds as if she was starring in a 1930s movie - that added much more mysticism and creepy vibe to the release.
Very strong guitar riffs resonate throughout the whole compilation, accompanying the dark and deep vocals, war-machine-like drums, and noticeable bass.
The vocals, on this particular release, were outstanding! They fit here more than on previous ones, what's more, they introduced very dark and powerful energy to the music and brought out multiple chainsaw massacre imagery in my head.
The mood on this compilation is a great one, it doesn't need any additional things to make it darker or grimmer, it is perfectly sinister by itself and lets you dive into this mystic and evil world of extreme metal.
The compilation stands on a very high level in WITCHBONES' discography. This release provides top-level musical material, as well as gives you a coherent emotional side. The mood on 'Akasha III' is the best out of all WITCHBONES releases that I had the opportunity to listen to - it's dark, mystic, sinister but doesn't overwhelm you, nor makes you feel like you overdosed on the doom/death metal.
I think that many doom fans will enjoy this release, the death metal fans as well. It fits perfectly with these two genres and represents them flawlessly.
Such a shame, that WITCHBONES is not an active project anymore, but thanks to Morbid Chapel Records, we still have some of the band's material re-released and we can spin it until we die!

Dziś przychodzę z kolejną recenzją tego intrygującego projektu. Dzięki wspaniałej wytwórni - Morbid Chapel Records, za dostarczenie mi tej wspaniałej płyty, w przeciwnym razie w ogóle nie słyszałabym o tym wydawnictwie.
"Akasha III: Salt, Sea, Blood and Fire'' to kompilacja pierwotnie wydana 31 października 2019 r., a ostatnio ponownie 26 października 2020 r. przez MCR.
Kompilacja składa się z sześciu utworów, trwających około 22 minut. Już same tytuły dają mgliste wyobrażenie o tym, co nadejdzie, ale jedynym tytułem, który zwrócił moją uwagę i sprawił, że zacząłem się zastanawiać, to „Pigs in Jars” - o czym będzie? Jak będzie brzmiał?
Cóż, zobaczmy, przechodząc od razu do recenzji.
Po raz kolejny ten album zawiera fragmenty filmowe w utworach. Zaczęło się od tego, że kobieta mówiła o obchodach Halloween - brzmi tak, jakby grała w filmie z lat 30.XX wieku - co dodało wydaniu znacznie więcej mistycyzmu i przerażającej atmosfery.
Bardzo mocne gitarowe riffy rozbrzmiewają przez całą kompilację, towarzysząc mrocznemu i głębokiemu wokalowi, perkusji przypominającej machinę wojenną i zauważalnym basie.
Wokale na tym konkretnym wydawnictwie były znakomite! Pasują tutaj bardziej niż na poprzednich, co więcej, wprowadziły do muzyki bardzo mroczną i potężną energię i wywołały w mojej głowie wiele obrazów w temacie masakry piłą łańcuchową.
Nastrój na tej kompilacji jest świetny, nie potrzeba żadnych dodatkowych rzeczy, aby uczynić ją mroczniejszą lub ponurą, sama w sobie jest całkowicie złowieszcza i pozwala zanurzyć się w tym mistycznym i złym świecie ekstremalnego metalu.
Kompilacja stoi na bardzo wysokim poziomie w dyskografii WITCHBONES. To wydanie zapewnia materiał muzyczny na najwyższym poziomie, a także spójną i zadowalającą stronę emocjonalną. Nastrój na 'Akasha III' jest najlepszy ze wszystkich wydawnictw WITCHBONES, które miałam okazję słuchać - jest mroczny, mistyczny, złowieszczy, ale nie przytłacza Cię ani nie sprawia, że czujesz się jakbyś przedawkował doom / death metal .
Myślę, że to wydawnictwo ucieszy wielu fanów doomu, a także death metalu. Idealnie pasuje do tych dwóch gatunków i bezbłędnie je reprezentuje.
Szkoda, że WITCHBONES nie jest już aktywnym projektem, ale dzięki Morbid Chapel Records wciąż mamy ponownie wydany materiał zespołu i możemy go słuchać aż do śmierci!
