After 4 years from the last album of Sodom - 'Decision Day' (2016), the band returned with a new album called 'Genesis XIX', an album whose names and the atmosphere of this entire release may match the brutality of 2020 and be its soundtrack ;) Sodom is back to play the old school style straight from their old albums, namely 'Persecution Mania' from 1987 and 'Agent Orange' from 1989. It also happened because their old guitarist Frank Blackfire returned to the ranks of the Sodom band on the Genesis XIX album, who had just recorded his guitar parts on 'Persecution Mania' and on 'Agent Orange'. we came to the conclusion that this is the best album since their great album M-16 in 2001. I cordially invite you to your review of the latest long-playing album from the masters of Teutonic Thrash metal from Germany, which is a band that stands next to such great bands representing this genre of metal as the bands: Kreator, Destruction or Protector. 'Genesis XIX' is full throttle from start to finish, and in the case of this team, it should rather be said that with the strength of the M-16 with a full magazine!
What I like the most about this album is that the album doesn't slow down from start to finish. There is absolute power, aggression, and old-school thrash metal style from start to finish, that is, from the entry of the instrumental opener called 'Blind Superstition' on this album. In the second composition, 'Sodom & Gomorrah, we immediately sense the return of the band's Great Form as in the best of the old days. In my opinion, Tom Angelripper now has even better vocals than on the previous album 'Decision Day' on Sodom & Gomorrah, what I like the most is the catchy chorus, where after the first listen I already knew the lyrics and started to sing it to myself. It is also worth mentioning that this song is dedicated to the memory of Quorthon and Chris Witchhunter - former Sodom drummer, who was with the band from 1986, i.e. from the album 'Obsessed by Cruelty' to 1992, i.e. the album 'Tapping The Vein' Chris, unfortunately, died in 2008. due to liver failure. The whole of the latest work of Sodom, there are generally no weak and uneven moments, the whole material here really plays beautifully and blends with each other. It is known that there are songs that everyone may like less than the others on this album, so I will focus on describing the strongest points of this album and my favorite compositions for me. Such works are, in my opinion, songs on this album: 'Genesis XIX' - wonderful riffs, during which I felt like I was listening to Sodom's music from the 80s again, 'The Harpooneer' - I will not write here either, you just have to listen to this riff I heartily recommend this piece. 'Occult Perpetrator' here is, my favorite riff from all the material on this album - I can describe it in three words, simply - good old-school. An interesting piece is also 'Nicht mehr mein Land' because when Tom sings it in German, we know what the German sounds like - thanks to this aggression, beautiful fury in Tom's vocals is even more emphasized and gives the whole song a really great atmosphere. The compositions 'Indoctrination' and 'Friendly Fire' are the songs in which I feel the most in the sound of a combination of the albums 'Persecution Mania' and 'Agent Orange'
Summing up, although Sodom released its latest album just at the end of 2020, I can really say that privately it will definitely be in my personal metal albums ranking from 2020, and who knows, maybe in 2021 it will still be in a very strong position and no other the metal album won't skip it. Sodom's album 'Genesis XIX' simply proves that real metal played straight out of passion and heart will never die. It is also worth adding that on this album the new drummer from Sodom, Toni Merkel, played the drums for the first time, and as you can hear from the rhythm section on this album, he plays at a really high level. Finally, I just wanted to say that I hope that 2021 will be much better and more favorable to the world and also to the 'metal world', especially in terms of returning concerts, because I have never seen Sodom live, and this is the band that I would like to see live in my life. Po 4 latach od ostatniego albumu Sodom – ‘Decision Day’ (2016) zespół powrócił z nowym albumem o nazwie ‘Genesis XIX’ płyta, której nazwy utworów oraz klimat tego całego wydawnictwa może pasować do brutalności roku 2020 i być jego soundtrackiem ;) Sodom powrócił do grania starego old - schoolowego stylu rodem jak za swoich dawnych albumów, a mianowicie ‘Persecution Manii’ z 1987 roku i ‘Agent Orange’ z 1989 roku. Stało się też tak, ponieważ w szeregi zespołu Sodom na albumie 'Genesis XIX' powrócił ich dawny gitarzysta – Frank Blackfire, który właśnie nagrywał swoje partie gitarowe na ‘Persecution Manii’ i na ‘Agent Orange’ Z kolegą dość długo dyskutowałem o ich najnowszym albumie i wspólnie doszliśmy do stwierdzenia, że jest to najlepszy album od czasów ich wspaniałego albumu 'M-16' z 2001 roku. Serdecznie zapraszam na swoją recenzję najnowszego długogrającego albumu od mistrzów grania Teutonic Thrash metalu z Niemiec, który to zespół stoi obok tak wielkich zespołów reprezentujących ten gatunek metalu jak zespoły: Kreator, Destruction czy Protector. 'Genesis XIX' od początku do końca zasuwa z pełną parą, a w przypadku tego zespołu raczej trzeba napisać, że z siłą M-16 z pełnym magazynkiem!
Co mi się podoba najbardziej na tym albumie, to chyba to, że płyta od początku do końca nie zwalnia tempa. Jest w niej absolutna moc, agresja i old-schoolowy styl thrash metalowego grania od początku do końca, czyli od wejścia na ten album instrumentalnego otwieracza o nazwie 'Blind Superstition'. W drugiej kompozycji czyli 'Sodom & Gomorrah' od razu wyczuwamy powrót świetnej formy zespołu jak za dawnych najlepszych lat. Według mnie Tom Angelripper ma teraz jeszcze lepszy wokal niż na poprzednim albumie 'Decision Day' w utworze 'Sodom & Gomorrah' najbardziej podoba mi się chwytliwy refren, gdzie po pierwszym przesłuchaniu już znałem tekst i zacząłem sobie go śpiewać. Warto także wspomnieć że owy utwór jest zadedykowany pamięci Quorthona, oraz Chrisa Witchhuntera – byłego perkusisty Sodom, który był z zespołem od 1986 roku czyli od albumu ‘Obsessed by Cruelty’ do 1992 roku czyli płyty ‘Tapping The Vein’ Chris niestety zmarł w 2008 roku z powodu niewydolności wątroby. Całość najnowszego dzieła Sodom ogólnie nie ma słabych i nierównych momentów, całość materiału tutaj naprawdę pięknie gra i łączy się ze sobą. Wiadomo, że są utwory, które każdemu mogą się mniej spodobać od pozostałych na tym krążku, dlatego ja skupię się na opisaniu jak dla mnie najmocniejszych stron tego albumu i moich ulubionych kompozycji. Takimi dziełami są na tej płycie według mnie utwory: 'Genesis XIX' – wspaniałe riffy, podczas których poczułem się jakbym znowu słuchał muzyki Sodom z lat 80, 'The Harpooneer' – tu też nie będę się rozpisywał, ten riff po prostu trzeba posłuchać i serdecznie polecam ten kawałek. 'Occult Perpetrator' tutaj znajduję się, mój ulubiony riff z całego materiału na tym krążku – mogę go określić trzema słowami, po prostu – 'stary dobry old-school'. Ciekawym kawałkiem jest również 'Nicht mehr mein Land', ponieważ kiedy Tom śpiewa go po niemiecku, no to wiemy jak brzmi język niemiecki – dzięki temu agresja, piękna wściekłość w wokalu Toma jest jeszcze bardziej podkreślona i nadaje całemu utworowi naprawdę mega klimatu. Kompozycje 'Indoctrination' oraz 'Friendly Fire' to właśnie te utwory, w których w brzmieniu najbardziej odczuwam połączenie jakby albumów 'Persecution Manii' oraz 'Agent Orange'
Podsumowując, chociaż Sodom wydał swój najnowszy album tuż pod koniec roku 2020 to naprawdę śmiało mogę powiedzieć, że prywatnie na pewno będzie on w moim osobistym rankingu płyt metalowych z roku 2020, a kto wie może i w 2021 będzie nadal na bardzo silnej pozycji i żaden inny metalowy album go nie przeskoczy. Sodom albumem 'Genesis XIX' udowadnia po prostu, że prawdziwy metal grany prosto z pasji i serca nigdy nie umrze. Warto również dodać, że na tym albumie po raz pierwszy zagrał na perkusji nowy perkusista Sodom czyli Toni Merkel, i jak można usłyszeć po sekcji rytmicznej na tym albumie, gra on na naprawdę wysokim poziomie. Na koniec chciałem tylko powiedzieć, że mam nadzieję, że rok 2021 będzie znacznie lepszy i bardziej przychylny dla świata, jak i również dla ‘metalowego świata’ zwłaszcza w kwestii powrotu koncertów, ponieważ jeszcze nigdy nie widziałem Sodom na żywo, a jest ten zespół na mojej liście marzeń - jakie formacje muzyczne chciałbym w swoim życiu zobaczyć na żywo.
