BLACK SABBATH – ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’ (1973) - Back To The Past

I don't think I need to introduce this band to anyone, and especially every fan of Heavy Metal, Doom metal, Rock, and Hard Rock knows it, after all, they are real and one of the first fathers of the creation of Heavy / Doom metal - a genre that changed the music world forever in the right direction. The band is represented by legends such as vocalist Ozzy Osbourne - "prince of darkness" and guitarist Tony Iommi, who is rightly considered one of the most influential guitarists in the history of Heavy Metal. Today, in our next episode of the series - 'Back To The Past', I will deal with the album of this legendary musical formation, which was released in the month we now have, i.e. in December, and in my opinion, Black Sabbath has slowly gone into a side of more progressive doom metal than on their previous 4 albums of their career. From this album, in my opinion, the more progressive period of Black Sabbath began, which was confirmed by the later album called "Sabotage" from 1975, which is privately my favorite album of the legendary band Heavy / Doom metal from England. Of course, we will talk today about the album 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' (1973)
Ehhhh what must have been in the crazy '70s. Surely people were shocked that they hadn't encountered such heavy slow and low riffs as Black Sabbath represented so far. It was probably a shock as if Chopin got up from the piano, made his own electric guitar, started to play and perform on it, and everyone did not know what was going on around him. 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' is this heavy metal album that does not have any weak moments in it, it is difficult to choose one of your favorite songs from it because all the songs and the whole album has a truly magical atmosphere, and the quality of the songs, melodies, and riffs on this release are at the highest possible level. Especially for the 70s. What I like the most about this album is that each track is quite diverse and different from each other, but at the same time as if each one was perfectly combined with each other. In the beginning, we have compositions with the same title as the album, i.e. 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' - a simple riff, but perfect in sound and listening, the real Genius of Tony Iommi, which, as it is also worth adding and mentioning, at the age of 17, he had an accident at work where he lost feeling, and the tips of the middle and ring fingers in his right hand. Since then, Tony, when playing the guitar, has to put on special caps on these fingers to play, but what's very interesting, the use of them and Iommie's new way of playing the guitar made his guitar somehow detuned, so from the album 'Master Of Reality' ( 1971), the stylistic approach and sound of Black Sabbath became the new classic standard in heavy metal music. In the track 'A National Acrobat' we also have great guitar riffs, Ozzie's vocals, and the whole atmosphere of the composition, Black Sabbath can arrange everything in the music in such a way that I just want to listen to it non-stop. The next instrumental 'Fluff' is a beautiful ballad in which we will hear a piano and a harpsichord in the background with a classical or acoustic guitar. The harpsichord on this piece reminds me of a melody played by a Baroque harpsichord master from Italy - Domenico Scarlatti. 'Fluff' is a really beautiful, touching, and very atmospheric ballad from Black Sabbath. The huge advantage of this album is that you can really hear a lot of different types of instruments and beginnings to experiment in metal music and introduce new innovations. On this album we see, for example, the perfect use of various types of synthesizers, playing with a very progressive rhythm (also on drums, for which Bill Ward was sitting) here and there we can even hear flute, organ, or bagpipes on this disc, and still, everything sounds very heavy, and in the hard rock style - simply brilliant musicians, so that's the effect here. The album ends with my private favorite track from this album, 'Spiral Architect' - Ozzy great vocal and Iommi atmospheric riffs and melodies immediately reminds me of being somewhere in a spooky castle or in a dungeon. A beautiful track and a beautiful ending to this great album. The rest of the songs that I did not mention I did it this time especially, because if you haven't listened to this album for a long time or will listen to it for the first time in your life, I invite you to listen to it and fall into the unique world of the mysticism of Heavy Metal music, which it has been teaching for years just us - Black Sabbath.
Summing up, although I am not some number one fan of the band Black Sabbath and privately from the gods of Heavy metal, I have dominated bands: Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, they respect Black Sabbath - it's true they are the fathers of Heavy / Doom metal, I don't think so, go ahead they can also be called the fathers of other genres of music in metal, for example, Stoner Metal. It is simply a band without which there would be no such musical formations in the modern world of metal like Electric Wizard, Sleep, or Cathedral. I really think Black Sabbath is one of the biggest metal bands, and one of the most influential in the history of music (not only metal but also in general). Thanks to this band, so many great music bands were formed that were inspired by Sabbaths, that I probably will not be able to count them all now. Black Sabbath - 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' is a 10/10 album!

Zespół reprezentowany przez takie legendy jak wokalista Ozzy Osbourne – ‘książę ciemności’ oraz gitarzysta Tony Iommi, który jest słusznie uznawany za jednego z najbardziej wpływowych gitarzystów w historii Heavy Metalu. Dzisiaj w naszym kolejnym odcinku serii –'Back To The Past' zajmę się albumem właśnie tej legendarnej formacji muzycznej, która to płyta została wydana właśnie w miesiącu, który mamy teraz obecnie, czyli w grudniu i według mnie od tego wydawnictwa Black Sabbath poszedł powoli w stronę bardziej progresywnego doom metalu niż na swoich poprzednich 4 pierwszych płytach w ich karierze. Od tego albumu, zaczął się według mnie bardziej progresywny okres zespołu Black Sabbath, o czym utwierdził mnie również późniejszy album o nazwie –'Sabotage' z 1975 roku, który to krążek jest prywatnie moim ulubionym albumem legendarnej formacji Heavy/Doom metalu z Anglii. Porozmawiamy dzisiaj oczywiście o płycie 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' (1973) Serdecznie zapraszam!
Ehhhh co to musiały być za szalone lata 70. Na pewno ludzie byli w szoku, że do tej pory nie spotkali się z takim ciężkim powolnym i niskimi dźwiękami riffów jakie reprezentował Black Sabbath. To był w sumie pewnie taki szok jakby Chopin wstał od fortepianu, zrobił własną gitarę elektryczną, zaczął na niej grać i występować, i każdy nie wiedział co się dookoła niego dzieje. 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' to ta płyta heavy metalowa, która nie ma w sobie żadnych słabych momentów, trudno wybrać z niej jeden swój ulubiony utwór, ponieważ wszystkie kawałki oraz całość płyty ma naprawdę magiczny klimat, a jakość utworów, melodie oraz riffy na tym wydawnictwie są na maksymalnie wysokim poziomie. Zwłaszcza jak na lata 70. Co najbardziej też podoba mi się na tej płycie, to to, że każdy kawałek jest dość różnorodny i inny od siebie, ale jednocześnie jakby każdy po kolei łączył się idealnie ze sobą. Na start mamy tutaj kompozycje o tytule takim samym jak album czyli 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' – prosty riff, ale doskonały w brzmieniu i słuchaniu, prawdziwy Geniusz Tony'ego Iommiego, który jak warto też tutaj dodać i wspomnieć w wieku 17 lat uległ on wypadkowi przy pracy w którym stracił czucie, oraz czubki środkowego i serdecznego palca w prawej dłoni. Od tamtej pory Tony grając na gitarzę musi zakładać specjalne nakładki na te palce by grać, ale co bardzo ciekawe użycie ich i nowego sposobu gry na gitarze przez Iommiego sprawiło, że jego gitara była jakoś inaczej odstrojona, dlatego od albumu 'Master Of Reality'(1971) podejście stylistyczne i brzmienie Black Sabbath stało się nowym klasycznym standarem w muzyce heavy metalowej. W utworze 'A National Acrobat' mamy również świetne riffy gitarowe, wokal Ozziego i całokształt klimatu kompozycji, Black Sabbath potrafi właśnie tak wszystko ułożyć w muzyce, że po prostu chcę się słuchać tego non stop. Następny instrumentalny 'Fluff' to przepiękna ballada w której usłyszymy pianinko, oraz klawesyn w tle z gitarą klasyczną bądź akustyczną. W sumie klawesyn na tym utworze przypomina mi melodię, które grywał barokowy mistrz grania na Klawesynie pochodzący z Włoch – Domenico Scarlatti. 'Fluff' to naprawdę przepiękna, wzruszająca i bardzo klimatyczna ballada od Black Sabbath. Ogromnym plusem tego albumu jest też to, że naprawdę słychać w nim masę różnego rodzaju instrumentów i początki do eksperymentowania w muzyce metalowej i wprowadzenie nowych innowacji. Na tym albumie pojawiają nam się np. perfekcyjnie użycia różnego rodzaju syntezatorów, zabawa bardzo progresywnym rytmem (również na perkusji, za którą siedział Bill Ward) gdzieniegdzie możemy na tym krążku usłyszeć nawet flet, organy czy dudy, a i tak wszystko brzmi bardzo ciężko, heavy domowo i hard rockowo – po prostu genialni muzycy, więc takie mamy efekty tutaj. Płytę kończy mój prywatnie ulubiony kawałek z tej płyty czyli 'Spiral Architect' – świetny wokal Ozziego oraz klimatyczne riffy i melodie Iommiego od razu kojarzą mi się jakbym był gdzieś w upiornym zamku lub w lochach. Przepiękny kawałek, oraz piękne zakończenie tego wspaniałego albumu. Reszta kawałków o których nie wspomniałem zrobiłem to tym razem specjalnie, ponieważ kto dawno nie słuchał tego albumu lub będzie go słuchał dopiero pierwszy raz w życiu, to zapraszam już teraz do wysłuchania go i wpadnięcia w wyjątkowy świat mistycyzmu muzyki Heavy Metalowej, jaką od lat naucza nas właśnie – Black Sabbath.
Podsumowując, chociaż nie jestem jakimś fanem numer jeden zespołu Black Sabbath i prywatnie z bogów Heavy metalu u mnie dominują zespoły: Iron Maiden, oraz Judas Priest to cholernie szanuje Black Sabbath – to prawda są ojcami Heavy/ Doom metalu, mało tego myślę, że śmiało można ich też nazwać ojcami innych gatunków muzyki w metalu, np. Stoner Metalu. Po prostu jest to zespół, bez którego nie byłoby takich formacji muzycznych we współczesnym świecie metalu jak np. Electric Wizard, Sleep czy Cathedral. Naprawdę myślę, że Black Sabbath jest jednym z największych zespołów metalowych, oraz jednym z najbardziej wpływowych w historii muzyki (nie tylko metalowej, ale i ogólnie) Dzięki temu zespołowi powstało naprawdę tyle świetnych kapel muzycznych, które inspirowały się Sabbathami, że chyba nie uda mi się teraz ich wszystkich wyliczyć. Black Sabbath – 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' to płyta 10/10!
