WITCHBONES - 'Akasha II: The Lost Demos'
WITCHBONES - a deeply talented one-man band from Portland, Oregon strikes back! Or maybe not entirely, since the band has split up, but today, I will give you a review of a splendid rerelease that Morbid Chapel Records put out on October 26th.
'Akasha II : The Lost Demos' consists of seven tracks, marking the time of almost 24 minutes - so it's not an extremely long compilation.
As before, everything is performed by one and only Valdrokker - the multitalented creator of WITCHBONES.
Although that release is a compilation, you don't really hear any differences between tracks, as if they were collected throughout a certain period of time. They all went together well, and made a musically perfect, coherent whole.
Each instrument went flawlessly with each other. The guitar + bass collaboration sounded very significant - guitar riffs vere highlighted and underlined to shine by the noticeable and professional bass work. Drums - pure perfection and masterwork. They reflected wonderfully the variety of sound in doom/death metal, and most certainly they superbly pictured the aggression and brutality that flows in the veins of extreme metal.
Then the vocals... well, I still can't get around to fully loving them. At some points they fit to the music but at other times they were too deep, they would be a bit more scratch , in my humble opinion.
Lets drift to the emotional and illustrational side of the release now.
The compilation provoked in me mainly appreciation for one-man bands. The craft that was shown on the release, painted us a picture of extremely devoted death metal artist, that each time nails a release, and always delivers a top-level material.
In addition, the tracks provided us a brutal picture of the high quality death metal, that definitely will stand strong in the extreme metal underground.
So now's the time that I have to sum up my review... well, I didn't quite get the main idea of the compilation, I couldn't catch the character of the release, since at many points it felt a bit 'flat' and feelingless to me. Yes of course, we got a view of a great artistry and devotion to the craft, but the feeling side was lacking one main emotion that could rule the compilation.
All in all, the craftsmanship is just flawless here - although the vocals are yet again not my favorite. All the instruments slay, they're way too superb!
As a whole the compilation does a splendid job and definitely will bring closer the idea of doom/death metal to you.

„Akasha II: The Lost Demos” składa się z siedmiu utworów wyznaczających czas prawie 24 minut - więc nie jest to wyjątkowo długa kompilacja.
Jak poprzednio, wszystko wykonuje jeden i jedyny Valdrokker - wszechstronnie utalentowany twórca WITCHBONES.
Chociaż to wydawnictwo jest kompilacją, tak naprawdę nie słychać żadnych różnic między utworami, jakby były zbierane przez pewien okres czasu. Wszystko dobrze ze sobą współgrało, tworząc doskonałą muzycznie, spójną całość.
Każdy instrument bezbłędnie współgrał ze sobą. Współpraca gitara + bas brzmiała bardzo poprawnie - gitarowe riffy zostały podkreślone i podkreślone, aby błyszczeć zauważalną i profesjonalną pracą basu. Bębny - czysta perfekcja i mistrzostwo. Wspaniale oddawały różnorodność brzmień w doom / death metalu, a na pewno znakomicie obrazowały agresję i brutalność, która płynie w żyłach ekstremalnego metalu.
A potem wokale ... cóż, nadal nie mogę się przekonać, żeby je w pełni pokochać. W niektórych momentach pasowały do muzyki, ale czasami były zbyt głębokie, byłyby lepsze, moim skromnym zdaniem, nieco bardziej zdrapane.
Przejdźmy teraz do emocjonalnej i ilustracyjnej strony wydania.
Kompilacja wzbudziła we mnie przede wszystkim jeszcze większe uznanie dla jednoosobowych zespołów. Rzemiosło, które zostało pokazane na płycie, namalowało nam obraz niezwykle oddanego artysty death metalowego, który za każdym razem bezbłędnie nagrywa płytę i zawsze dostarcza materiał na najwyższym poziomie.
Ponadto utwory dostarczyły nam brutalnego obrazu wysokiej jakości death metalu, który z pewnością będzie sie mocno trzymał w ekstremalnym metalowym podziemiu.
Teraz nadszedł ten czas, gdzie muszę podsumować moją recenzję ... no cóż, nie do końca zrozumiałam główny pomysł kompilacji, nie mogłam uchwycić charakteru wydawnictwa, ponieważ w wielu miejscach było odczuwane przeze mnie jakby nie zawierało mocnych uczuć. Tak, oczywiście, mieliśmy pogląd wielkiego kunsztu i oddania dla rzemiosła, ale po stronie uczuć brakowało jednej głównej emocji, która mogłaby rządzić kompilacją.
Podsumowując, kunszt wykonania jest tutaj bez zarzutu - chociaż wokale znów nie są moimi ulubionymi. Wszystkie instrumenty zabijają, są zbyt wspaniałe i profesjonalnie wykonane!
W sumie, kompilacja spisuje się znakomicie i z pewnością przybliży Wam ideę doom / death metalu, oraz pozwoli ją zrozumieć a innym powoli odkrywać.
