IMPERADOR BELIAL - a four-piece band, hailing from Rio de Janeiro, started their own Black Metal plague in 1998 and has been going strong to this day.
The band has a long and colorful discography, which consists of many demos, splits, and compilations, but only two full-length albums.
Today, I will focus on their latest release from 2018 - 'Curse of Belial'.
Huge thanks to MARA PRODUCTIONS, which re-released the album and provided me with the CD. At the end of the review, you will have the links to the digital album, and online store where you can purchase the CD.
'Curse of Belial' consists of eleven tracks (band's own material, one cover, live songs) lasting around 40 minutes - a perfect time for a black metal album-length - not too much, not too less, and the exact great amount of music to entertain you, satisfy you, and transfer you to the dark and sinister world of the extreme metal music.
The album starts off strongly with 'Acheron' - the first track already heralds us the power, brutality, and tasty black metal material.
The musical part (guitars, drums, bass) are done perfectly and very coherent with outstanding, deep vocals.
I love the fact that some of the lyrics were done in Portuguese - you don't really see that often, mostly the texts are done in English so that everyone can understand them, but for me hearing a language that I am fond of, and additionally, hearing it being supported by great musical background, my heart beat faster.
I also am in favor of the fact that the sound of the band wasn't entirely black metal - it had a bit of black thrash feeling - entirely in positive meaning! The band really did a great job not sticking totally to the old-school black metal script - they brought their own soul, ideas, and dynamics to the whole picture.
IMPERADOR BELIAL gave me a lot of powerful emotions and provided me a ton of brutal, flawless music. The imagery was mostly connected to my memories of some underground black metal shows, that I've been on.
When it comes to live tracks, you could almost feel the adrenaline which you get while attending a show - I wish that IMPERADOR BELIAL will come over to Poland one day...
Summing up, I think that this is one of the top releases I had the pleasure to hear in 2020. Mara Productions did great with re-releasing this album and then providing me with the outstanding CD. I think that this release will satisfy most of you - black metal fans. I think that the sound will be more to the liking of those that are rather fond of newer kind of black metal, that isn't entirely focused on coldness and grimness, in contrary to that, it rather brings this creative energy and diverse talent that is here to entertain us and provide very professional and outstanding material.

Zespół ma długą i kolorową dyskografię, na którą składa się wiele demówek, splitów i kompilacji, ale tylko dwa pełnometrażowe albumy.
Dzisiaj skupię się na ich najnowszym wydawnictwie z 2018 roku - „Curse of Belial”.
Ogromne podziękowania dla MARA PRODUCTIONS, która ponownie wydała album i dostarczyła mi płytę. Pod koniec recenzji są dostępne linki do albumu on-line i sklepu internetowego, w którym można kupić płytę CD.
"Curse of Belial'' składa się jedenastu utworów (autorski materiał zespoł, coveru, i kawałków live), trwa prawie 40 minut - idealny czas na black metalowy album - nie za dużo, nie za mało - jest to dokładnie taka ilość muzyki, która cię zabawi , zadowoli, przeniesie do mrocznego i złowrogiego świata ekstremalnej muzyki metalowej.
Album mocno zaczyna się od „Acheron” - już pierwszy utwór zwiastuje nam siłę, brutalność i smaczny black metalowy materiał.
Część muzyczna (gitary, perkusja, bas) jest wykonana perfekcyjnie i bardzo spójnie z wybitnym, głębokim wokalem.
Podoba mi się fakt, że niektóre teksty zostały napisane po portugalsku - tak naprawdę nie widuje/nie słyszy się tego tak często. Część tekstów jest napisanych po angielsku, aby każdy mógł je zrozumieć, ale dodatkowo możecie usłyszeć język Portugalski, który sprawi, że słysząc go wspartego świetnym, pomysłowym podkładem muzycznym, wasze serca będą biłe szybciej.
Jestem również ogromną zwolenniczką tego, że brzmienie zespołu nie było całkowicie black metalowe - miało w sobie odrobinę black thrashowego charakteru - całkowicie w pozytywnym znaczeniu! Zespół naprawdę wykonał świetną robotę, nie trzymając się całkowicie oldschoolowego scenariusza black metalowego - wnieśli do całości własną duszę, pomysły i dynamikę.
IMPERADOR BELIAL dostarczył mi wielu potężnych emocji i dostarczył on brutalnej, nieskazitelnie profesjonalnej muzyki. Obrazy, które wywołał ten materiał były głównie związane z moimi wspomnieniami z niektórych undergroundowych występów black metalowych, na których byłam - wywołały tęsknotę i determinację aby w najbliższym czasie wrócić do świata, w którym czuję się najlepiej, i znów poczuć zobaczyć oraz usłyszeć taki porządny matetiał na żywo.
Jeśli chodzi o utwory live, to niemal można było poczuć adrenalinę, którą dostaniecie tylko na koncercie - życzę sobie po cichu, aby IMPERADOR BELIAL kiedyś przyjechał do Polski ...
Podsumowując, uważam, że jest to jedno z topowych wydawnictw, jakie miałam przyjemność usłyszeć w 2020 roku. Mara Productions poradziła sobie świetnie wydając ponownie ten album, a następnie dostarczając mi znakomitą płytę. Myślę, że to wydawnictwo zadowoli większość z Was - fanów black metalu. Uważam, że dźwięk bardziej przypadnie do gustu tym, którzy raczej lubią nowszy black metal, który nie jest do końca nastawiony na chłód i ponurość, a wręcz przeciwnie, raczej wnosi tę twórczą energię i różnorodny talent, który jest tutaj, aby nas zadowolić i dostarczyć bardzo profesjonalny i wyjątkowy materiał.
