SERAPHIC ENTOMBMENT - 'Quelled'
Morbid Chapel Records strikes back with an intriguing demo release!
This time, it's a death/doom metal band based in Birmingham, US. 'Quelled' (the release) is the only record in their discography so far - but what a good one!
'Quelled' was initially released digitally, then on a cassette, and recently, MCR released it on CD (Oct 26th, 2020).
I was lucky enough to be presented with the release, so as a result of that I had to give it a decent and throughout listen.
Only two long tracks are contained on the demo, marking the time of seventeen sweet minutes. With a lineup of four members, the demo should be on a high creativity level, since there were four differently thinking brains working on the release. Well, let's see how the demo turned out...
The two-track demo resonated with extremely catchy guitar riffs that are, at least to my ear, the main driving force on this release. I also think that those riffs are rather the main character, they were made to be noticed right away. The riffs are followed by decent drum work. Although, I have to say that I would like to hear the drums be more aggressive and a bit faster. I could hear the bass - it supported the guitar riffs and filled in the gaps nicely.
The vocals weren't much to my liking but they fitted perfectly to the gloomy and dark musical background.
The musical side of the release was done almost with death/doom metal book accordance. This doesn't sit right with me since I like creativity and improvisation - because of that, I couldn't get almost any feelings out of the release, besides the gloomy doom metal side - which totally won my heart.
Since I am a massive doom metal fan, I was seeking the gloomy feeling, which really did well for me and elevated the album to a higher level. The musical side, as I said, wasn't very creative, it was rather too distanced, with not many feelings to accompany it.
All in all, I have to say that this is not a bad release - if we look at it from the doom metal side of the music. I think that if SERAPHIC ENTOMBMENT will add even more gloomy/doom metal; sounds and characteristics, then the band could acquire even more supporters and many more positive reviews.

Tym razem jest to death / doom metalowy zespół z Birmingham w USA. „Quelled” (to wydawnictwo) to jak dotąd jedyna płyta w ich dyskografii - ale dość dobra!
„Quelled” został wydany początkowo cyfrowo, następnie na kasecie, a ostatnio MCR wydał go na płycie CD (26.10.2020).
Miałam to szczęście, że otrzymałam wydawnictwo, więc musiałam je przyzwoicie i do końca przesłuchać.
Demo zawiera tylko dwa długie utwory, oznaczające siedemnaście minut mixu doom/death. Demo składające się z czterech członków powinno być na wysokim poziomie kreatywności, ponieważ nad wydaniem pracowały cztery inaczej myślące mózgi - Cóż, zobaczmy, jak naprawdę im wyszło ...
To dwuścieżkowe demo rozbrzmiewało niezwykle chwytliwymi gitarowymi riffami, które są, przynajmniej dla mnie, główną siłą napędową tego wydawnictwa. Myślę też, że te riffy są raczej głównym bohaterem, zostały stworzone, aby od razu zostać zauważone i aby ciągnąć swoją pracą cąły zespół. Po riffach następuje przyzwoita gra na perkusji. Chociaż muszę przyznać, że chciałabym, aby perkusja była bardziej agresywna i trochę szybsza. Słychać było bas - wspomagał gitarowe riffy i ładnie wypełniał luki pomiędzy instrumentami.
Wokale nie przypadły mi do gustu, ale idealnie pasowały do ponurego i ciemnego tła muzycznego.
Muzyczna strona wydawnictwa została wykonana niemal zgodnie z definicją doom/death metalu. Nie pasuje mi to, ponieważ lubię kreatywność i improwizację - z tego powodu nie mogłam wydobyć z tego wydawnictwa prawie żadnych uczuć, poza mroczną stroną doom metalu - która totalnie podbiła moje serce.
Ponieważ jestem wielą fanką doom metalu, szukałam mrocznego uczucia, które naprawdę mi się spodobało i podniosło album na wyższy poziom. Strona muzyczna, jak powiedziałam, nie była zbyt kreatywna, była raczej zdystansowana i nie towarzyszyło jej wiele uczuć.
Podsumowując, muszę powiedzieć, że nie jest to złe wydawnictwo - jeśli spojrzymy na to od strony doom metalowej muzyki. Myślę, że jeśli SERAPHIC ENTOMBMENT doda jeszcze więcej mrocznego doom metalowego brzmienia, wtedy mógłby zdobyć jeszcze więcej zwolenników i dużo więcej pozytywnych recenzji.
