Hello Metal Hellvolution readers!
Today, I bring you some very intense, dark, and mystical album - 'Pagan Pride' by WARTÖDD.
The band is a polish creation, with a two-man lineup - Veles (vocals, guitar, bass) and Leszy (drums, known from Trupi Swąd, Diabolical Fullmoon).
'Pagan Pride' was released on May 20th, 2020, so that means in the middle of a world crisis. Thankfully, the album kept us busy, provided pleasant material and dark metal energy to survive the time when the whole world was falling apart.
The release contains nine tracks, and marks the time of around 35 minutes - I can guarantee you that this time will be a very pleasant one.
The entirety of the album takes on matters which are very dear to me - paganism and occultism. Also, you can find there a decent Graveland cover, which flawlessly completes the idea of the best of what Poland has to offer - Pagan Black Metal.
Ladies and gentlemen - WARTÖDD!
The album starts off with a very mysterious and medieval-like intro which leads to a powerful, kind of primitive sounding material, that wonderfully represents the idea of old-school polish black metal. The guitar riffs are rather simple, with a catchy touch to them, and a bit of speed-metal sound to them. They collaborate greatly with the deadly sound of drums - a black metal perfection. As you all know, I always focus on the drums as if my life depends on that - and on that record, I wasn't disappointed either. The drums are performed with a deep connection to the pagan roots of our polish metal, you can also hear the utter perfection of tasty blast beats and cymbals.
I have to say that the musical background here is very well done. It melts flawlessly with scratchy vocals which add an even more dark and powerful feeling to the album.
If I had to tell you about all the imagery and emotional side of the record, I would never finish that review. But despite that, I'll try to put my observations into a few short sentences.
PAGAN PRIDE IS ALMOST TOUCHABLE!
The record resonates perfectly with what the guys wanted to tell us, what's more, it brings that dark, dusty, old-school aura of blood, sweat, and sleepless n sights while creating such a top-level material. I could certainly see and feel the things that I love the most on BM records - freezing weather, loneliness, and anger. In my opinion, those three characteristics plus real pagan pride of our polish ancestry are highly noticeable and on this record. I also think that those emotions are the main driving force on 'Pagan Pride' and they represent the band's soul and character flawlessly.
Summing up, I think that because of such talented bands like WARTÖDD, the Polish Pagan Black Metal genre is still alive and going strong, fighting the mainstream shit that's out there. Our polish Pagan Pride is a very deep and meaningful subject to the Slavs, so we always talk about it seriously, fight for it - and that's what the album represents for me - a strong will to fight to secure our pagan history and beliefs, and a massive talent to BM that the guys have.
If you enjoy primitive, old-school sounding black metal, then 'Pagan Pride' is an album for you!

Dziś przedstawiam wam bardzo intensywny, mroczny i mistyczny album - „Pagan Pride” WARTÖDD.
Zespół jest polskim tworem, w dwuosobowym składzie - Veles (wokal, gitara, bas) i Leszy (perkusja, znany z Trupi Swąd, Diabolical Fullmoon).
„Pagan Pride” ukazał się 20 maja 2020 roku, czyli w środku światowego kryzysu. Na szczęście album zapewnił nam zajęcie, przyjemny materiał i mroczną energię do przetrwania w czasach, gdy cały świat się rozpadał.
Wydanie zawiera dziewięć utworów i liczy około 35 minut - gwarantuję, że czas spędzony na słuchanie tego albumu będzie bardzo przyjemny.
Cały album podejmuje tematy, które są mi bardzo bliskie - pogaństwo i okultyzm. Nie zabrakło też porządnego covera Graveland, która bezbłędnie dopełnia ideę tego, co najlepsze w Polsce - Pagan Black Metalu.

Album rozpoczyna się bardzo tajemniczym i średniowiecznym intro, które prowadzi do potężnego, prymitywnie brzmiącego materiału, wspaniale reprezentującego ideę oldskulowego polskiego black metalu. Riffy gitarowe są raczej proste, z chwytliwym akcentem i odrobiną speed metalowego brzmienia. Świetnie współpracują z zabójczym brzmieniem bębnów - black metalową doskonałością. Jak wszyscy wiecie, zawsze skupiam się na perkusji, jakby od tego zależało moje życie - i na tej płycie też się nie zawiodłam. Perkusja wykonywana jest z głębokim połączeniem z pogańskimi korzeniami naszego polskiego metalu, można też usłyszeć całkowitą doskonałość smakowitych blast beatów i talerzy.
Muszę powiedzieć, że tło muzyczne jest tutaj bardzo dobrze wykonane. Płynnie i bezbłędnie lączy się z szorstkimi wokalami, które dodają albumowi jeszcze bardziej mrocznego i mocnego charakteru.
Gdybym miała Wam opowiedzieć o wszystkich obrazach i emocjonalnej stronie płyty, nigdy nie skończyłabym tej recenzji. Mimo to spróbuję ująć moje obserwacje w kilku krótkich zdaniach.
PAGAN PRIDE JEST PRAWIE NAMACALNY!
Płyta doskonale współgra z tym, co chcieli nam powiedzieć chłopaki, co więcej, wprowadza mroczną, zakurzoną, oldschoolową aurę krwi, potu i bezsennych nocy, podczas których tworzy się właśnie taki materiał z najwyższej półki. Z pewnością mogłam zobaczyć i poczuć to, co kocham najbardziej na płytach BM - mroźną pogodę, samotność i złość. Moim zdaniem te trzy cechy plus prawdziwa pogańska duma z naszego polskiego pochodzenia są bardzo widoczne na tej płycie. Myślę też, że te emocje są główną siłą napędową „Pagan Pride” i bezbłędnie reprezentują duszę i charakter zespołu.
Podsumowując, uważam, że dzięki tak utalentowanym zespołom jak WARTÖDD, polski gatunek Pagan Black Metal wciąż żyje i rośnie w siłę, walcząc z mainstreamem, który wciąż jest wszechobecny. Nasza polska pogańska duma to bardzo głęboki i znaczący temat dla Słowian, więc zawsze mówimy o tym poważnie, i jesteśmy w stanie o to walczyć - i to właśnie reprezentuje dla mnie album - silna wola walki o zabezpieczenie naszej pogańskiej historii i wierzeń, oraz ogromny talent do BM, który mają chłopaki.
Jeśli lubisz prymitywny, oldskulowy black metal, to „Pagan Pride” jest albumem dla Ciebie!
