VOTUM– 'Duhkha' EP

Votum is a Polish band representing Progressive Metal. This year the band released their EP called 'Duhkha', and this release touched me a lot and surprised me. Of course, in a positive degree.
On the Polish stage of progressive metal, we do not have too many musical formations from this genre of music, but we have a few gems that play at the world level of progressive metal like such great bands like Dream Theater or Fates Warning. I think that our Polish counterparts of these bands are Riverside, and the band I am reviewing today - Votum. On his latest EP, which lasts 30 minutes, we can hear 6 very emotional songs with an important message when it comes to the lyrical layer of the composition. Great admiration for this band, also for the fact that they managed to invite to their track called 'Prey' (which is the first song to start this EP) Dutch singer Anneke Van Giersbergen, whom I am personally a fan of because of her clear voice is really beautiful and unique. Anneke is known, for example, from the Dutch band The Gathering, which performs music from the Atmospheric Doom metal genre. What is best about this EP from Votum, is, in my opinion, a very good and emotional voice of the vocalist, piercing the soul and heart, the rhythm section and guitar riffs are well polished, and the whole mix of this release is really good quality and you can hear that it is all done at a very high musical and mastering level. What is the only downside of this album (but it is also a matter of the individual taste of each listener, recipient) is that for me there are too many electronic inserts that bother me a bit and for me, the whole EP would sound better without their use.
To sum up, 'Duhkha' by Votum is a very good EP which I think that every fan of progressive and alternative metal will find something for themselves. For fans of such transcendent progressive metal, which we often have in the music of such bands as - Dream Theater, Fates Warning, or Pain Of Salvation, this EP maybe even obligatory to listen to and test. Finally, it is also worth mentioning a piece on this album called 'Hate' (in my opinion, the second-best track on this EP, right after the track 'Prey'), which has a very important message in the text, because this composition tells about the problem of 'Cyberbullying' That is, violence on the Internet, meeting intolerance, and hate on the Internet, which is, as we know, a growing problem in today's world and society, and this phenomenon grows more and more when there is also an increasing development of technology. For bringing up such an important problem, really great respect for all members and the Votum team itself.

Votum to polski zespół reprezentujący Progresywny metal. Kapela w tym roku wydała swoją EP-kę o nazwie Duhkha, i to wydawnictwo bardzo mnie poruszyło i zaskoczyło. Oczywiście w pozytywnym sensie. Zapraszam na moją recenzję.
Na polskiej scenie progresywnego metalu nie mamy w sumie za dużo formacji muzycznych z tego gatunku muzyki, to jednak mamy kilka perełek, które grają na światowym poziomie progresywnego metalu niczym jak takie wielkie zespoły jak np. Dream Theater czy Fates Warning. Takimi naszymi polskimi odpowiednikami tych zespołów myślę, że śmiało może być Riverside, i właśnie dzisiejszy zespół, który recenzuję czyli – Votum. Na swojej najnowszej EP-ce która trwa 30 minut, możemy usłyszeć 6 bardzo emocjonujących utworów z ważnym przekazem jeśli chodzi o warstwę liryczną kompozycji. Wielki podziw dla tego zespołu, również za to, że udało im się zaprosić do swojego kawałka o nazwie ‘Prey’ (który jest pierwszą kompozycją rozpoczynającą tą EP-kę) holenderską wokalistkę Anneke Van Giersbergen, której jestem osobiście fanem, ponieważ jej czysty głos jest naprawdę przepiękny i wyjątkowy. Anneke jest znana choćby z holenderskiego zespołu The Gathering, wykonującego muzykę z gatunku Atmosferycznego Doom metalu. Co jest najlepsze na tej EP-ce od Votum, to według mnie bardzo dobry i emocjonujący głos wokalisty, przeszywający duszę i serce, sekcja rytmiczna, jak i riffy gitarowe są naprawdę dobrze dopracowane, a całość miksu tego wydawnictwa jest w naprawdę dobrej jakości i słychać, że jest to wszystko zrobione na bardzo wysokim poziomie muzycznym i masteringowym. Co jest jedynym minusem tej płyty (ale to też kwestia oczywiście indywidualnego gustu każdego słuchacza, odbiorcy) to to, że jak dla mnie jest za dużo użytych wstawek elektronicznych, które mi trochę przeszkadzają i jak dla mnie całość tej EP-ki lepiej by brzmiała bez ich użycia.
Podsumowując, ‘Duhkha’ od Votum, to bardzo dobra EP-ka, dzięki której myślę, że każdy fan progresywnego i alternatywnego metalu znajdzie coś dla siebie. Dla fanów takiego jakby transcendentnego progresywnego metalu, jaki mamy często w muzyce takich zespołów jak – Dream Theater, Fates Warning czy Pain Of Salvation, ta EP-ka może być wręcz obowiązkowa do przesłuchania i obadania. Na koniec warto także wspomnieć o utworze, na tej płycie o nazwie ‘Hate’ (według mnie drugi najlepszy utwór na tej EP-ce zaraz po utworze ‘Prey’) który ma bardzo ważny przekaz w tekście, ponieważ ta kompozycja opowiada o problemie „Cyberbullyingu” czyli przemocy w sieci, spotkania się z nietolerancją, oraz hejtem w sieci, który jest jak wiemy coraz większym problem w dzisiejszym świecie i społeczeństwie i to zjawisko coraz bardziej narasta gdy jest też coraz większy rozwój technologii. Za poruszenie tak ważnego problemu, naprawdę wielki szacunek dla wszystkich członków jak i samego zespołu Votum.
