KHOLD 'Masterpiss of Pain' (2001) - Back To The Past
A band that is surrounded by mystery, darkness, and utter talent.
KHOLD is a band that emerged around 2001 and since then produced six outstanding albums.
Today I bring you yet another Back To The Past review, which will focus on the very first album titled 'Masterpiss of Pain'.
There are ten amazing tracks marking the time of almost 35 sweet minutes. With Gard on vocals + guitars, Rinn on guitars, Eikind on bass, and Sarke on drums we get a high-level black metal material, that will prove itself well and stand strong to this day. As we know, Gard's wife - Hildr, did the dark and poetical lyrics, just like she wrote them on Tulus's albums.
In my opinion, Hildr is an outstanding lyricist and deserves way more recognition than she gets.
Already perfect lyrics are accompanied by an outstanding musical background. Knowing Tulus and its band members, Khold had to turn out as a decent band.
The guitars + drum work blended perfectly together, additionally, the bass did a great job by filling out all the spaces left between those two. In the end, the vocals were the main character on the album. They brought out all the true characteristics of decent black metal, what's more, they brought that dark and cold feeling to the whole release.
The imagery that I got while listening to 'Masterpiss of Pain' was pretty simple - metal bar, many people sitting, drinking beers, and slowly headbanging to the mighty riffs of 'Nattpyre'.
We all know Khold and their breathtaking musical genius. And we also know that most bands don't succeed with the first album but KHOLD did the total opposite of that. They succeeded in every way possible, making this not only a brilliant release but in addition, they showed stunning talent and creativity, which made this album a living legend and allowed it to stand strong in the black metal scene.

KHOLD to zespół, który powstał około 2001 roku i od tego czasu wyprodukował sześć znakomitych albumów.
Dziś przedstawiam kolejną recenzję Back To The Past, która skupi się na pierwszym albumie zatytułowanym „Masterpiss of Pain”.
Skada się na niego dziesięć niesamowitych utworów oznaczających czas prawie 35 słodkich minut. Z Gardem na wokalu i gitarach, Rinnem na gitarach, Eikindem na basie i Sarke na perkusji otrzymujemy black metalowy materiał na wysokim poziomie, który dobrze się sprawdzi i silnie wytrzyma do dziś na scenie BM. Jak wiemy, żona Garda - Hildr, napisała mroczne i poetyckie teksty, tak jak na albumach Tulusa.
Moim zdaniem Hildr jest wybitną autorką tekstów i zasługuje na znacznie większe uznanie niż aktualnie je dostaje.
Doskonałym już tekstom towarzyszy znakomite tło muzyczne. Znając Tulusa i jego członków, Khold musiał okazać się przyzwoitym zespołem.
Gitara + perkusja idealnie się ze sobą połączyły, dodatkowo bas spisał się świetnie, wypełniając wszystkie przestrzenie między nimi. Ostatecznie głównym bohaterem albumu był wokal. Wydobył on wszystkie prawdziwe cechy porządnego black metalu, co więcej, wniósł mroczny i zimny klimat do całego wydawnictwa.
Obrazy, które zobaczyłam słuchając „Masterpiss of Pain” były dość proste - metalowy bar, wiele osób siedzących, pijących piwo i wolno headbangujących do potężnych riffów z albumu, m.in tych znajdujących się na „Nattpyre”.
Wszyscy znamy KHOLD i ich zapierający dech w piersiach geniusz muzyczny. Wiemy też, że większość zespołów nie odnosi sukcesu z pierwszym albumem, ale KHOLD zrobił coś zupełnie przeciwnego. Udało im się w każdy możliwy sposób, dzięki czemu było to nie tylko genialne wydawnictwo, ale dodatkowo wykazał się niesamowitym talentem i kreatywnością, co uczyniło z tego albumu żywą legendę i pozwoliło mu zaistnieć na scenie black metalowej i nadal stać na niej niewzruszonym.
