Today, in the next installment of the 'Back To The Past' series, another heavy metal gem and a flagship album for this genre of metal music. Today we are talking about the album 'Defenders Of The Faith' (1984) of the already legendary musical formation - Judas Priest! By many fans of the heavy metal genre, they are called 'Gods of Heavy Metal -' Metal Gods'. I cordially invite you to my memories of their above album!
At the very beginning, it is worth noting and mentioning in which year 'Defenders Of The Faith' was released, it is 1984, so a few years before heavy metal bands such as Judas Priest or Iron Maiden slowly began to use synthesizers and keys for their albums. With the Judas, it was 1986 when after 'Defenders Of The Faith' they released their next album called 'Turbo' (1986) and Iron Maiden it was also the same year because in 1986 the Maiden released the album 'Somewhere in Time' ( 1986) on both of these albums there is a fairly large and significant use of synthesizers in heavy metal music. Of course, many fans and listeners of these bands were divided. Some liked it very much, others liked it quite the contrary, and were outraged that their beloved bands were drifting away from playing pure heavy metal without any additional effects. They just felt that through synthesizers and keyboards this heavy metal could become more pop, commercial, light, and become more electronic music. Of course, I am one of the first listeners who liked it very much. In my opinion, both in the Judas and the Maidens, the use of synthesizers and keyboards made it even more fun to emphasize the atmosphere and climate of heavy metal music. It has become even more elaborate, more interesting, often darker and it has gained such an old-school retro character. I really like it. On this album, which I mention today, we also have the slow use of synthesizers by the Judas. What we can hear in the bridge in track number 4 called - 'The Sentinel' We start from the very beginning of this great and immortal album! The first opening track is 'Freewheel Burning', the beautiful speed of this piece, the beautiful guitar collaboration of two brilliant musicians - Gleen Tipton and K.K. Downing! A real feast for heavy metal gourmets. Privately, I also think that Rob Halford had his best vocal form on this album. A great and magical voice in every track in this material that defines what real Heavy Metal is. The next track is 'Jawbreaker' also a fast track and reminiscent of the atmosphere of the sound like the previous composition - "Freewheel Burning" The third number on this album is 'Rock Hard, Ride Free' here we have a bit of a slowdown, and it's more of a Hard Rock number but a really decent and great track. Especially the chorus in this composition is quickly remembered and it is very pleasant to sing. Well, now came my number one track from this album, from which I also have a nickname on Metalhellvolution - 'The Sentinel', a great composition from beginning to end. In my opinion, the sound of these guitars here is a real symbol and a synonym for how real heavy metal is supposed to sound. Everything is simply amazing here. Halford's voice in the transition in this piece and its narrative is a very metaphysical and magical experience for me while listening. Halford really feels in this piece that he put all his passion, energy, and power! The fifth track is 'Love Bites', another track, which, like in the case of other tracks on this album, i.e. - 'Rock Hard, Ride Free' and 'Some Heads Are Gonna Roll' has a more hard rock atmosphere, but again, they are brilliant compositions because they are very melodic songs with choruses that are simply memorable. In general, these three tracks on this album remind me of driving some old type car, a very old-school Ferrari on Route 66 in America and these great pieces were just playing on the car radio while driving! The sixth track of 'Eat Me Alive' is a very interesting piece and quite energetic. There is also some kind of mystical and dark atmosphere in this track. "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" is like I mentioned about this track above. Just another really good track in a more hard rock climate, which reminds me of driving a car on the roads and highways of the United States. The eighth track is really the first release on this album and a kind of quiet heavy/power ballad with a stronger hit at the end of the track. We are talking about 'Night Comes Down', a great atmospheric number that is best listened to at night. The last numbers on this album, i.e. pieces nine and ten, can actually be combined into one composition and are a very nice clasp and the end of this album. For me, the climate and structure of these two tracks have a very anthem atmosphere. I associate this composition with a song, also by Judas Priest - 'United' from their album 'British Steel' (1980)
To sum up, the album 'Defenders Of The Faith' (1984) by Judas Priest is one of those Heavy Metal albums where if someone who calls himself a lover of the heavy metal genre does not know him, then such a person can be really ashamed. Perfect material from start to finish. Great sound of each instrument, great mix, and mastering as well as the entire production of this album, and above all its unique atmosphere of the 80s. An album that for me can only get one rating and it is of course 10 out of 10! It is also worth adding at the very end that this version of the album that I have listened to and have in my collection in the remastered edition is enriched with the bonus track 'Turn On Your Light' and 'Heavy Duty / Defenders Of The Faith in the live version (live) where the first bonus track 'Turn On Your Light' is really beautiful and a nice bonus. A track that resembles another composition from this album with its structure and atmosphere namely reminds me of the song - 'Night Comes Down'

Dzisiaj w kolejnej odsłonię serii 'Back To The Past' kolejna heavy metalowa perełka i sztandarowa już płyta dla tego gatunku muzyki metalowej. Mowa dzisiaj o krążku 'Defenders Of The Faith' (1984) legendarnej już formacji muzycznej – Judas Priest! Przez wielu fanów gatunku heavy metalowej są nazywani 'Bogami Heavy Metalu' – 'Metal Gods' Serdecznie zapraszam do mojego wspomnienia ich powyższego albumu!
Na samym początku warto zauważyć i zaznaczyć w którym roku został wydany 'Defenders Of The Faith' jest to rok 1984, a więc parę lat przed tym jak zespoły heavy metalowe takie jak właśnie Judas Priest, czy Iron Maiden powoli zaczęły używać syntezatorów, oraz klawiszy do swoich albumów. U Judasów był to rok 1986 kiedy właśnie po 'Defenders Of The Faith' wydali swój kolejny album o nazwie 'Turbo' (1986) a u Iron Maiden również był to ten sam rok, bo w 1986 roku Maideni wydają płytę 'Somewhere in Time' (1986) na oby tych płytach jest dość duże i znaczące użycie syntezatorów w muzyce heavy metalowej. Oczywiście wielu fanów i słuchaczy tych zespołów byli podzieleni. Jednym bardzo się to podobało, a innym wręcz przeciwnie, i byli oburzeni, że ich ukochane zespoły oddalają się od grania czystego heavy metalu i wolą ten bez żadnych dodatkowych efektów. Po prostu poczuli, że przez syntezatory i klawisze ten heavy metal może się stać jakby bardziej popowy, komercyjny, lekki i stać się bardziej już muzyką elektroniczną. Ja oczywiście należę do grona tych pierwszych słuchaczy, którym się to bardzo spodobało. Według mnie zarówno u Judasów jak i u Maidenów użycie syntezatorów i klawiszy dało jeszcze fajniejszego podkreślenia atmosfery i klimatu muzyki heavy metalowej. Stała się ona jeszcze bardziej rozbudowana, ciekawsza, często mroczniejsza i zyskała taki charakter retro old-schoolowy. Bardzo mi się to podoba. Na tym albumie, który dzisiaj wspominam również mamy powoli użycia syntezatorów przez Judasów. Co możemy usłyszeć w przejściu (bridgu) w utworze numer 4 o nazwie – 'The Sentinel' Zaczynamy od samego początku tego znakomitego i nieśmiertelnego albumu! Pierwszy otwierający numer to 'Freewheel Burning' piękna szybkość tego kawałka, piękna współpraca gitarowa dwóch genialnych muzyków czyli – Gleen Tipton i K.K. Downing! Prawdziwa uczta dla heavy metalowych smakoszy. Prywatnie uważam też, że Rob Halford na tym albumie miał swoją najlepszą formę wokalną. Kapitalny i magiczny głos w każdym utworze w tym materiale, które definiuje czym jest prawdziwy Heavy Metal. Następny kawałek to 'Jawbreaker' również szybki kawałek i kojarzący mi się z klimatem brzmienia jak poprzednia kompozycja czyli 'Freewheel Burning' Trzeci numer na tej płycie to 'Rock Hard, Ride Free' tutaj mamy już nieco zwolnienie, i jest to bardziej Hard Rockowy numer, ale naprawdę porządny i bardzo świetny numer. Zwłaszcza refren w tej kompozycji szybko zapada w pamięć i bardzo przyjemnie się go śpiewa. No, a teraz przyszedł mój numer jeden utwór z tej płyty, od którego jak zresztą mam przecież też nick na Metalhellvolution :D czyli – 'The Sentinel' wspaniała kompozycja od początku do końca. Brzmienie tych gitar tutaj na start według mnie są prawdziwym symbolem i synonimem jak ma brzmieć prawdziwy heavy metal. Tu jest wszystko po prostu rewelacyjne. Głos Halforda w przejściu w tym utworze i jego narracja, wręcz jest jak dla mnie podczas słuchania jest bardzo metafizycznym i magicznym przeżyciem. Halford w ten kawałek swoim głosem naprawdę czuć, że włożył swoją całą pasję, energię i moc! Piąty kawałek, czyli 'Love Bites' to już kolejny kawałek, który tak jak w przypadku innych kawałków na tej płycie, czyli np. – 'Rock Hard, Ride Free' i 'Some Heads Are Gonna Roll' ma bardziej hard rockowe klimaty, ale znowu i tak są genialnymi kompozycjami, ponieważ są to bardzo melodyczne kawałki z refrenami, które po prostu zapadają w pamięć. Ogólnie te trzy kawałki na tej płycie kojarzą mi się jakby się jechało jakimś samochodem starego typu, bardzo old-schoolowym Ferrari po Route 66 w Ameryce i w radiu samochodowym właśnie leciały w czasie jazdy te świetne kawałki! Szósty kawałek 'Eat Me Alive' to z kolei bardzo ciekawy utwór i dość energiczny. Jest w tym kawałku również, jakiś klimat mistyczności i mroczności. 'Some Heads Are Gonna Roll' to jak już wspomniałem o tym kawałku wyżej. Po prostu kolejny naprawdę dobry utwór w bardziej hard rockowych klimatach, kojarzący mi się z jazdą samochodem po szosach i autostradach Stanów Zjednoczonych. Ósma kompozycja to tak naprawdę pierwsze zwolnienie na tym albumie i coś w rodzaju spokojnej heavy/power balladki z mocniejszym uderzeniem na końcu utworu. Mowa o 'Night Comes Down' świetny klimatyczny numer, który najlepiej właśnie słucha się nocą. Ostatnie numery na tej płycie czyli kawałki dziewięć i dziesięć, można tak naprawdę połączyć w jedną kompozycję i są bardzo fajną klamrą i zakończeniem tego albumu. Klimat i budowa tych dwóch kawałków jak dla mnie ma bardzo klimat jakby hymnu. Te kompozycję kojarzą mi się z utworem, również właśnie Judas Priest – z 'United' z ich płyty ‘British Steel’ (1980)
Podsumowując, album 'Defenders Of The Faith' (1984) autorstwa Judas Priest to jeden z tych albumów Heavy Metalowych gdzie jeśli ktoś nazywający się miłośnikiem gatunku muzyki heavy metalowej nie zna go, no to po prostu taka osoba może się naprawdę wstydzić. Perfekcyjny materiał od początku do końca. Świetne brzmienie każdego instrumentu, świetny mix, oraz mastering jak i cała produkcja tej płyty i przede wszystkim jej niepowtarzalny klimat i atmosfera lat 80. Album, który jak dla mnie może dostać tylko jedną ocenę i jest to oczywiście 10 na 10! Warto, również na sam koniec dodać, że ta wersja płyty, którą słuchałem i posiadam w swojej kolekcji w remasterowanej edycji wzbogacona jest o bonusowy utwór 'Turn On Your Light' i 'Heavy Duty / Defenders Of The Faith' w wersji live (na żywo) gdzie pierwszy bonusowy utwór 'Turn On Your Light' jest naprawdę piękny i fajnym bonusem. Kawałek, który budową i klimatem przypomina inną kompozycję z tej płyty, a mianowicie utwór – 'Night Comes Down'
