HEIMLAND - 'Fimbulvinter'
29th of January was for sure a great moment for black metal supporters - Norwegian band HEIMLAND released their long-awaited EP titled 'Fimbulvinter'.
The release contains only three tracks, and lasts around twelve minutes.
HEIMLAND emerged from the cold embrace of northern winds in Karmøy, and has been around so far for five years, with only two singles and one freshly released EP 'Fimbulwinter'.
Let's see what HEIMLAND prepared for us, if those twelve minutes will have all indispensable black metal music characteristics.
For sure, the cover art already heralds decent material and introduces a very dark, cold, and frozen mood, that will be present throughout the whole release.
Oh, my expectations were met right away...
This happens rarely. I mean what band can blow you off your feet within the first few seconds of the first track?? Only those, that have been long enough in the music business and were able to improve and develop their style of playing.
Rich, fat, and evil guitar riffs hit you right away - they catch your attention but doesn't stand before the mastery of drums or decent vocals - they rather are drawing your interest to them, and help in hearing the multiple 'easter eggs' hidden in the rich musical background.
Now I have to talk for a bit about the vocals... perfection, dedication, and pure pain could be heard in each track. They were painfully flawless under any condition, and what's more important, they brought a very dark, cold, and mischievous mood to the EP.
That's not a long EP, so I can't really write a lot about it, but to sum up the review, I can surely say that this EP is a highlight of January. It's decent, extremely mood influential (most important characteristic, at least for me) and it most certainly is flawless when it comes to the musical mastery which the EP is.
I know that HEIMLAND is a very fresh band, with not much material, but hearing the stuff they already have, I'm sure there's a very bright future waiting for them in terms of black metal.
I hope we'll hear WAY MORE material soon, which will be as splendid as 'Fimbulvinter'.

29 stycznia był z pewnością wspaniałym momentem dla zwolenników black metalu - norweski zespół HEIMLAND wydał długo oczekiwaną EPkę zatytułowaną „Fimbulvinter”.
Wydanie zawiera tylko trzy utwory i trwa około dwunastu minut.
HEIMLAND wyłonił się z zimnych objęć północnych wiatrów w Karmøy i istnieje od pięciu lat, mając tylko dwa single i jeden świeżo wydany EP „Fimbulvinter”.
Zobaczmy, co przygotował dla nas HEIMLAND, czy te dwanaście minut będzie miało wszystkie niezbędne cechy dobrej muzyki black metalowej.
Na pewno okładka już zapowiada przyzwoity materiał i wprowadza bardzo mroczny, zimny i mroźny nastrój, który będzie obecny przez całe wydawnictwo.
Och, moje oczekiwania zostały spełnione od razu ...
To się prawie NIGDY nie zdarza. Chodzi mi o to, jaki zespół może zwalić cię z nóg w ciągu pocztkowych kilku sekund pierwszego utworu? Tylko ci, którzy są wystarczająco długo w branży muzycznej i mieli dużo czasu w stanie ulepszyć i rozwinąć swój styl grania.
Bogate, tłuste i podstępne gitarowe riffy od razu cię uderzają - przykuwają twoją uwagę, ale nie stoją przed mistrzostwem perkusji czy przyzwoitego wokalu - raczej przyciągają do nich zainteresowanie i pomagają usłyszeć wiele niespodzianek ukrytych w bogatym podkładzie muzycznym.
Teraz muszę trochę powiedzieć o wokalu… w każdym utworze słychać było perfekcję, poświęcenie i czysty ból przeszywający nasze zamrożone serca. Był do bólu bezbłędny w każdym momencie, a co ważniejsze, wniósł do EP-ki bardzo mroczny, chłodny i figlarny black metalowy nastrój.
To nie jest długa EPka, więc naprawdę nie mogę o niej dużo powiedzieć, ale podsumowując recenzję, z pewnością mogę stwierdzić, że ta EPka jest punktem kulminacyjnym stycznia. Jest przyzwoita, niezwykle wpływająca na nastrój (najważniejsza cecha, przynajmniej dla mnie) i na pewno jest bezbłędna, jeśli chodzi o mistrzostwo muzyczne, którym ona się szczyci.
Wiem, że HEIMLAND to bardzo świeży zespół, z niewielką ilością materiału, ale słysząc rzeczy, które już opublikowali, jestem pewna, że czeka na nich bardzo świetlana przyszłość w zakresie black metalu.
Mam nadzieję, że wkrótce usłyszymy O WIELE WIĘCEJ materiału, który będzie równie wspaniały jak „Fimbulvinter”.
